gh-128341: Use _Py_ABI_SLOT in stdlib modules (#145770) Rename from _Py_INTERNAL_ABI_SLOT to _Py_ABI_SLOT and define the macro using _PyABIInfo_DEFAULT. Use the ABI slot in stdlib extension modules to enable running a check of ABI version compatibility. _tkinter, _tracemalloc and readline don't use the slots, hence they need explicit handling. bpo-43244: Remove ast.h, asdl.h, Python-ast.h headers (GH-24933) These functions were undocumented and excluded from the limited C API. Most names defined by these header files were not prefixed by "Py" and so could create names conflicts. For example, Python-ast.h defined a "Yield" macro which was conflict with the "Yield" name used by the Windows <winbase.h> header. Use the Python ast module instead. * Move Include/asdl.h to Include/internal/pycore_asdl.h. * Move Include/Python-ast.h to Include/internal/pycore_ast.h. * Remove ast.h header file. * pycore_symtable.h no longer includes Python-ast.h. | 5 年前

gh-122931: Allow stable abi3 API extensions to include a multiarch tuple in the filename (GH-152461) This permits stable ABI extensions for multiple architectures to be co-installed into the same directory, without clashing with each other, the same way (non-stable ABI) regular extensions can. It is listed before the current platform-less suffixes since it's more specific. The platform is stored in a new pyconfig.h define & sysconfig variable, SOABI_PLATFORM. On some known architectures (FreeBSD, Windows), this will be undefined/zero; these won't have the new tag (yet). Add SOABI_PLATFORM & ALT_SOABI the info to `make pythoninfo` as well. gh-91048: Refactor and optimize remote debugging module (#134652) Completely refactor Modules/_remote_debugging_module.c with improved code organization, replacing scattered reference counting and error handling with centralized goto error paths. This cleanup improves maintainability and reduces code duplication throughout the module while preserving the same external API. Implement memory page caching optimization in Python/remote_debug.h to avoid repeated reads of the same memory regions during debugging operations. The cache stores previously read memory pages and reuses them for subsequent reads, significantly reducing system calls and improving performance. Add code object caching mechanism with a new code_object_generation field in the interpreter state that tracks when code object caches need invalidation. This allows efficient reuse of parsed code object metadata and eliminates redundant processing of the same code objects across debugging sessions. Optimize memory operations by replacing multiple individual structure copies with single bulk reads for the same data structures. This reduces the number of memory operations and system calls required to gather debugging information from the target process. Update Makefile.pre.in to include Python/remote_debug.h in the headers list, ensuring that changes to the remote debugging header force proper recompilation of dependent modules and maintain build consistency across the codebase. Also, make the module compatible with the free threading build as an extra :) Co-authored-by: Łukasz Langa <lukasz@langa.pl> | 1 年前

gh-146302: make Py_IsInitialized() thread-safe and reflect true init completion (GH-146303) ## Summary - Move the `runtime->initialized = 1` store from before `site.py` import to the end of `init_interp_main()`, so `Py_IsInitialized()` only returns true after initialization has fully completed - Access `initialized` and `core_initialized` through new inline accessors using acquire/release atomics, to also protect from data race undefined behavior - `PySys_AddAuditHook()` now uses the accessor, so with the flag move it correctly skips audit hook invocation during all init phases (matching the documented "after runtime initialization" behavior) ... We could argue that running these earlier would be good even if the intent was never explicitly expressed, but that'd be its own issue. ## Motivation `Py_IsInitialized()` returned 1 while `Py_InitializeEx()` was still running — specifically, before `site.py` had been imported. See https://github.com/PyO3/pyo3/issues/5900 where a second thread could acquire the GIL and start executing Python with an incomplete `sys.path` because `site.py` hadn't finished. The flag was also a plain `int` with no atomic operations, making concurrent reads a C-standard data race, though unlikely to manifest. ## Regression test: The added test properly fails on `main` with `ERROR: Py_IsInitialized() was true during site import`. --- Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> | 5 个月前

gh-144438: Fix false sharing between QSBR and tlbc_index (gh-144554) Align the QSBR thread state array to a 64-byte cache line boundary and add padding at the end of _PyThreadStateImpl. Depending on heap layout, the QSBR array could end up sharing a cache line with a thread's tlbc_index, causing QSBR quiescent state updates to contend with reads of tlbc_index in RESUME_CHECK. This is sensitive to earlier allocations during interpreter init and can appear or disappear with seemingly unrelated changes. Either change alone is sufficient to fix the specific issue, but both are worthwhile to avoid similar problems in the future. | 7 个月前

gh-138122: Implement frame caching in RemoteUnwinder to reduce memory reads (#142137) This PR implements frame caching in the RemoteUnwinder class to significantly reduce memory reads when profiling remote processes with deep call stacks. When cache_frames=True, the unwinder stores the frame chain from each sample and reuses unchanged portions in subsequent samples. Since most profiling samples capture similar call stacks (especially the parent frames), this optimization avoids repeatedly reading the same frame data from the target process. The implementation adds a last_profiled_frame field to the thread state that tracks where the previous sample stopped. On the next sample, if the current frame chain reaches this marker, the cached frames from that point onward are reused instead of being re-read from remote memory. The sampling profiler now enables frame caching by default. | 9 个月前

gh-152075: Avoid lock contention in _Py_Specialize_LoadGlobal under free threading (gh-153720) Under high thread concurrency in free-threaded builds, `_Py_Specialize_LoadGlobal` suffers from lock contention when acquiring the critical section mutexes for the `globals` and `builtins` dictionaries during bytecode specialization. This PR skips LOAD_GLOBAL bytecode specialization if acquiring the two object mutexes would block. | 2 个月前
