Enable Building as an Apple Framework * `build_usd.py` now adds a `--build-apple-framework` and `--no-build-apple-framework` to enable building frameworks. Frameworks are enabled by default for embedded OS builds. * When building as a framework, USD builds as a monolithic shared library. * Framework builds force TBB and OpenSubdiv to be statically linked. This can be revised in the future, but we discussed this previously, and decided it was the lesser of two evils given we're moving to GCD support. * The CMake build calls out to a zsh script (zsh is guaranteed to exist on macOS) to build the framework. This is used because CMake's own native framework build support would be a far more invasive change currently. docs, build: Update Python module install locations for change 2417140 (Internal change: 2419742) (Internal change: 2419750) | 3 个月前
python: Update default Python module install path By default, Python modules are now installed in: <inst>/lib/pythonX.Y/site-packages or <inst>/Lib/site-packages (on Windows) instead of the platform-dependent location reported by the Python interpreter. The old behavior introduced in change 2414602 was intended to match the directory structure that pip would use to install Python packages on the build system, which would also allow OpenUSD builds to "just work" when installed to a Python venv without needing PYTHONPATH to be set manually. The new behavior addresses feedback from the Build IG: - The platform-dependent paths were surprising. For example, on one Ubuntu 24.04 test machine the path was reported to be "local/lib/python3.12/dist-packages". This is technically correct, as the Python package layout is modified on Ubuntu (and Debian). But users are expecting paths like "lib/python3.12/site-packages". - The platform-dependent paths may disrupt cases where builds are done on one machine and distributed to others. In that case, clients would need to explicitly specify PXR_PYTHON_INSTALL_DIR, which was deemed to be too much of a burden. - Having a consistent path across builds would be simpler and matches at least one other common open source library (OpenImageIO). This still maintains the desired venv behavior since the new paths are where the venv expects to find Python modules. However, this change means installing OpenUSD to a system location like /usr on platforms with atypical package layouts (e.g., Ubuntu) now require users to set PYTHONPATH explicitly. This was deemed to be an uncommon use case and outweighed by the feedback above. (Internal change: 2417140) | 3 个月前

CI: speed up Windows build with ccache - utilize ccache action to handle saving/restoring build cache. On current GitHub windows-2022 hosted runners this brings build times down from 2 hours and 40 minutes to around 20 minutes with a fresh cache. - switch to Ninja generator to allow use of compiler launcher for MSVC - use embedded PDBs when building with compiler cache on Windows since /Zi leads to build errors or cache misses (Internal change: 2410971) | 4 个月前 |
