StarDict for Debian

StarDict is an international dictionary that runs in GNOME
environment. It has powerful features such as "Glob-style pattern
matching", "Scan selection word", "Fuzzy query", etc.

Dictionary

The official site of StarDict (http://stardict-4.sourceforge.net/)
provides many converted dictionaries, including English<->Chinese,
Gemany<->English and French<->English. However, the dictionary files
are split out from this package because of license issues. You can
download them from http://download.huzheng.org/
and extract to the directory /usr/share/stardict/dic.

Phonetic Symbol

If stardict fails to display the phonetic symbol, install the package
ttf-freefont or ttf-thryomanes.

Conversion Tools

StarDict also provide a set of conversion tools which can convert
the dictionaries from other software to StarDict format. You can
find them in the package stardict-tools.

You can find a brief description of Stardict dictionary format in
/usr/share/doc/stardict/StarDictFileFormat.gz
