Docs/admin-guide/mm/damon: rename the title of the document The title of the DAMON document for admin-guide, 'Monitoring Data Accesses', could confuse readers in some ways. First of all, DAMON is not the only single way for data access monitoring. And the document is for not only the data access monitoring but also data access pattern based memory management optimizations (DAMOS). This commit updates the title to 'DAMON: Data Access MONitor', which more explicitly explains what the document describes. Docs/admin-guide/mm/damon/reclaim: warn commit_inputs vs param updates race stable inclusion from stable-v6.6.136 commit 6718df49e5a7ba450bd1c6ef133c91e432f49399 category: bugfix bugzilla: https://atomgit.com/openeuler/kernel/issues/ Reference: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?id=6718df49e5a7ba450bd1c6ef133c91e432f49399 -------------------------------- commit 0beba407d4585a15b0dc09f2064b5b3ddcb0e857 upstream. Patch series "Docs/admin-guide/mm/damon: warn commit_inputs vs other params race". Writing 'Y' to the commit_inputs parameter of DAMON_RECLAIM and DAMON_LRU_SORT, and writing other parameters before the commit_inputs request is completely processed can cause race conditions. While the consequence can be bad, the documentation is not clearly describing that. Add clear warnings. The issue was discovered [1,2] by sashiko. This patch (of 2): DAMON_RECLAIM handles commit_inputs request inside kdamond thread, reading the module parameters. If the user updates the module parameters while the kdamond thread is reading those, races can happen. To avoid this, the commit_inputs parameter shows whether it is still in the progress, assuming users wouldn't update parameters in the middle of the work. Some users might ignore that. Add a warning about the behavior. The issue was discovered in [1] by sashiko. Docs/admin-guide/mm/damon/start: update DAMOS example command DAMON user-space tool, damo, has deprecated[1] its old DAMOS schemes specification format. However, an example of DAMON documentation is still using it. Update the example to use one of the alternative options. Docs/admin-guide/mm/damon/usage: fix wrong example of DAMOS filter matching sysfs file stable inclusion from stable-v6.6.32 commit fe4549b1d6aca7cffb4ab5010f7918263a6b1058 bugzilla: https://gitee.com/openeuler/kernel/issues/IA4MGD Reference: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?id=fe4549b1d6aca7cffb4ab5010f7918263a6b1058 -------------------------------- commit da2a061888883e067e8e649d086df35c92c760a7 upstream. The example usage of DAMOS filter sysfs files, specifically the part of 'matching' file writing for memcg type filter, is wrong. The intention is to exclude pages of a memcg that already getting enough care from a given scheme, but the example is setting the filter to apply the scheme to only the pages of the memcg. Fix it.
