bpf, docs: s/eBPF/BPF in standards documents There isn't really anything other than just "BPF" at this point, so referring to it as "eBPF" in our standards document just causes unnecessary confusion. bpf: Document bpf_inspect drgn tool It's a follow-up for discussion in [1]. drgn tool bpf_inspect.py was merged to drgn repo in [2]. Document it in kernel tree to make BPF developers aware that the tool exists and can help with getting BPF state unavailable via UAPI. For now it's just one tool but the doc is written in a way that allows to cover more tools in the future if needed. Please refer to the doc itself for more details. The patch was tested by make htmldocs and sanity-checking that resulting html looks good. v2 -> v3: - two sections: "Description" and "Getting started" (Daniel); - add examples in "Getting started" section (Daniel); - add "Customization" section to show how tool can be customized. v1 -> v2: - better "BPF drgn tools" section (Alexei) [1] https://lore.kernel.org/bpf/20200228201514.GB51456@rdna-mbp/T/#mefed65e8a98116bd5d07d09a570a3eac46724951 [2] https://github.com/osandov/drgn/pull/49 Signed-off-by: Andrey Ignatov <rdna@fb.com> Signed-off-by: Daniel Borkmann <daniel@iogearbox.net> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/bpf/20200324185135.1431038-1-rdna@fb.com | 6 年前 | |
bpf, docs: Fix ordering of bpf documentation This commit fixes the display of the BPF documentation in the sidebar when rendered as HTML. Before this patch, the sidebar would render as follows for some sections: | BPF Documentation |- BPF Type Format (BTF) |- BPF Type Format (BTF) This was due to creating a heading in index.rst followed by a sphinx toctree, where the file referenced carries the same title as the section heading. To fix this I applied a pattern that has been established in other subfolders of Documentation: 1. Re-wrote index.rst to have a single toctree 2. Split the sections out in to their own files Additionally maps.rst and programs.rst make use of a glob pattern to include map_* or prog_* rst files in their toctree, meaning future map or program type documentation will be automatically included. bpf: treewide: Annotate BPF kfuncs in BTF mainline inclusion from mainline-v6.9-rc1 commit 6f3189f38a3e995232e028a4c341164c4aca1b20 category: feature bugzilla: https://atomgit.com/openeuler/kernel/issues/8335 CVE: NA Reference: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=6f3189f38a3e995232e028a4c341164c4aca1b20 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This commit marks kfuncs as such inside the .BTF_ids section. The upshot of these annotations is that we'll be able to automatically generate kfunc prototypes for downstream users. The process is as follows: 1. In source, use BTF_KFUNCS_START/END macro pair to mark kfuncs 2. During build, pahole injects into BTF a "bpf_kfunc" BTF_DECL_TAG for each function inside BTF_KFUNCS sets 3. At runtime, vmlinux or module BTF is made available in sysfs 4. At runtime, bpftool (or similar) can look at provided BTF and generate appropriate prototypes for functions with "bpf_kfunc" tag To ensure future kfunc are similarly tagged, we now also return error inside kfunc registration for untagged kfuncs. For vmlinux kfuncs, we also WARN(), as initcall machinery does not handle errors. bpf: Adjust free target to avoid global starvation of LRU map stable inclusion from stable-v6.6.99 commit b71a75739af9916430866059aa57677bcf65a103 category: bugfix bugzilla: https://atomgit.com/openeuler/kernel/issues/8365 Reference: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?id=b71a75739af9916430866059aa57677bcf65a103 -------------------------------- [ Upstream commit d4adf1c9ee7722545450608bcb095fb31512f0c6 ] BPF_MAP_TYPE_LRU_HASH can recycle most recent elements well before the map is full, due to percpu reservations and force shrink before neighbor stealing. Once a CPU is unable to borrow from the global map, it will once steal one elem from a neighbor and after that each time flush this one element to the global list and immediately recycle it. Batch value LOCAL_FREE_TARGET (128) will exhaust a 10K element map with 79 CPUs. CPU 79 will observe this behavior even while its neighbors hold 78 * 127 + 1 * 15 == 9921 free elements (99%). CPUs need not be active concurrently. The issue can appear with affinity migration, e.g., irqbalance. Each CPU can reserve and then hold onto its 128 elements indefinitely. Avoid global list exhaustion by limiting aggregate percpu caches to half of map size, by adjusting LOCAL_FREE_TARGET based on cpu count. This change has no effect on sufficiently large tables. Similar to LOCAL_NR_SCANS and lru->nr_scans, introduce a map variable lru->free_target. The extra field fits in a hole in struct bpf_lru. The cacheline is already warm where read in the hot path. The field is only accessed with the lru lock held. For example, in Cilium: struct egress_gw_policy_key { struct bpf_lpm_trie_key lpm_key; __u32 saddr; __u32 daddr; }; While direct references to the "data" member haven't been found, there are static initializers what include the final member. For example, the "{}" here: struct egress_gw_policy_key in_key = { .lpm_key = { 32 + 24, {} }, .saddr = CLIENT_IP, .daddr = EXTERNAL_SVC_IP & 0Xffffff, }; To avoid the build time and run time warnings seen with a 0-sized trailing array for struct bpf_lpm_trie_key, introduce a new struct that correctly uses a flexible array for the trailing bytes, struct bpf_lpm_trie_key_u8. As part of this, include the "header" portion (which is just the "prefixlen" member), so it can be used by anything building a bpf_lpr_trie_key that has trailing members that aren't a u8 flexible array (like the self-test[1]), which is named struct bpf_lpm_trie_key_hdr. Unfortunately, C++ refuses to parse the __struct_group() helper, so it is not possible to define struct bpf_lpm_trie_key_hdr directly in struct bpf_lpm_trie_key_u8, so we must open-code the union directly. Adjust the kernel code to use struct bpf_lpm_trie_key_u8 through-out, and for the selftest to use struct bpf_lpm_trie_key_hdr. Add a comment to the UAPI header directing folks to the two new options. The field is only accessed with the lru lock held. bpf, docs: Fix final bpf docs build failure maps.rst in the BPF documentation links to the /userspace-api/ebpf/syscall document (Documentation/userspace-api/ebpf/syscall.rst). For some reason, if you try to reference the document with :doc:, the docs build emits the following warning: ./Documentation/bpf/maps.rst:13: WARNING: \ unknown document: '/userspace-api/ebpf/syscall' It appears that other places in the docs tree also don't support using :doc:. Elsewhere in the BPF documentation, we just reference the kernel docs page directly. Let's do that here to clean up the last remaining noise in the docs build. bpf, documentation: Add graph documentation for non-owning refs It is difficult to intuit the semantics of owning and non-owning references from verifier code. In order to keep the high-level details from being lost in the mailing list, this patch adds documentation explaining semantics and details. The target audience of doc added in this patch is folks working on BPF internals, as there's focus on "what should the verifier do here". Via reorganization or copy-and-paste, much of the content can probably be repurposed for BPF program writer audience as well. bpf: Document BPF_PROG_TYPE_CGROUP_SYSCTL Add documentation for BPF_PROG_TYPE_CGROUP_SYSCTL, including general info, attach type, context, return code, helpers, example and usage considerations. A separate file prog_cgroup_sysctl.rst is added to Documentation/bpf/. In the future more program types can be documented in their own prog_<name>.rst files. Another way to place program type specific documentation would be to group program types somehow (e.g. cgroup.rst for all cgroup-bpf programs), but it may not scale well since some program types may belong to different groups, e.g. BPF_PROG_TYPE_CGROUP_SKB can be documented together with either cgroup-bpf programs or programs that access skb. The new file is added to the index and verified by make htmldocs / sanity-check by lynx. bpf, docs: Fix ordering of bpf documentation This commit fixes the display of the BPF documentation in the sidebar when rendered as HTML.
