tty: cumulate and document tty_struct::flow* members Group the flow flags under a single struct called flow. The new struct contains 'stopped' and 'tco_stopped' bools which used to be bits in a bitfield. The struct also contains the lock protecting them to potentially share the same cache line. Note that commit c545b66c6922b (tty: Serialize tcflow() with other tty flow control changes) added a padding to the original bitfield. It was for the bitfield to occupy a whole 64b word to avoid interferring stores on Alpha (cannot we evaporate this arch with weird implications to C code yet?). But it doesn't work as expected as the padding (tty_struct::unused) is aligned to a 8B boundary too and occupies some bytes from the next word. So make it reliable by: 1) setting __aligned of the struct -- that aligns the start, and 2) making 'unsigned long unused[0]' as the last member of the struct -- pads the end. This is also the perfect time to start the documentation of tty_struct where all this lives. So we start by documenting what these bools actually serve for. And why we do all the alignment dances. Introduces two new states, AD_MUX_COLLECTING and AD_MUX_DISTRIBUTING in the LACP MUX state machine for separated handling of an initial Collecting state before the Collecting and Distributing state. This enables a port to be in a state where it can receive incoming packets while not still distributing. This is useful for reducing packet loss when a port begins distributing before its partner is able to collect. Added new functions such as bond_set_slave_tx_disabled_flags and bond_set_slave_rx_enabled_flags to precisely manage the port's collecting and distributing states. Previously, there was no dedicated method to disable TX while keeping RX enabled, which this patch addresses. Note that the regular flow process in the kernel's bonding driver remains unaffected by this patch. The extension requires explicit opt-in by the user (in order to ensure no disruptions for existing setups) via netlink support using the new bonding parameter coupled_control. The default value for coupled_control is set to 1 so as to preserve existing behaviour. net: dccp: Add SIOCOUTQ IOCTL support (send buffer fill) This adds support for the SIOCOUTQ IOCTL to get the send buffer fill of a DCCP socket, like UDP and TCP sockets already have. Regarding the used data field: DCCP uses per packet sequence numbers, not per byte, so sequence numbers can't be used like in TCP. sk_wmem_queued is not used by DCCP and always 0, even in test on highly congested paths. net: ethtool: coalesce: try to make user settings stick twice SET_COALESCE may change operation mode and parameters in one call. Changing operation mode may cause the driver to reset the parameter values to what is a reasonable default for new operation mode. Since driver does not know which parameters come from user and which are echoed back from ->get, driver may ignore the parameters when switching operation modes. This used to be inevitable for ioctl() but in netlink we know which parameters are actually specified by the user. We could inform which parameters were set by the user but this would lead to a lot of code duplication in the drivers. Instead try to call the drivers twice if both mode and params are changed. The set method already checks if any params need updating so in case the driver did the right thing the first time around - there will be no second call to it's ->set method (only an extra call to ->get()). net: Introduce generic failover module The failover module provides a generic interface for paravirtual drivers to register a netdev and a set of ops with a failover instance. The ops are used as event handlers that get called to handle netdev register/ unregister/link change/name change events on slave pci ethernet devices with the same mac address as the failover netdev. This enables paravirtual drivers to use a VF as an accelerated low latency datapath. It also allows migration of VMs with direct attached VFs by failing over to the paravirtual datapath when the VF is unplugged. treewide: use get_random_u32() when possible The prandom_u32() function has been a deprecated inline wrapper around get_random_u32() for several releases now, and compiles down to the exact same code. Replace the deprecated wrapper with a direct call to the real function. The same also applies to get_random_int(), which is just a wrapper around get_random_u32(). This was done as a basic find and replace. wimax: move out to staging There are no known users of this driver as of October 2020, and it will be removed unless someone turns out to still need it in future releases. According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WiMAX_networks, there have been many public wimax networks, but it appears that many of these have migrated to LTE or discontinued their service altogether. As most PCs and phones lack WiMAX hardware support, the remaining networks tend to use standalone routers. These almost certainly run Linux, but not a modern kernel or the mainline wimax driver stack. NetworkManager appears to have dropped userspace support in 2015 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=747846, the www.linuxwimax.org site had already shut down earlier. WiMax is apparently still being deployed on airport campus networks ("AeroMACS"), but in a frequency band that was not supported by the old Intel 2400m (used in Sandy Bridge laptops and earlier), which is the only driver using the kernel's wimax stack. Move all files into drivers/staging/wimax, including the uapi header files and documentation, to make it easier to remove it when it gets to that. Only minimal changes are made to the source files, in order to make it possible to port patches across the move. Also remove the MAINTAINERS entry that refers to a broken mailing list and website. mac80211: set HT channel before association Changing the channel type during operation is confusing to some drivers and will be hard to handle in multi-channel scenarios. Instead of changing the channel, set it to the right HT channel before authenticating/associating and don't change it -- just update the 20/40 MHz restrictions in rate control as needed when changed by the AP. This also fixes a problem that Paul missed in his fix for the "regulatory makes us deaf" issue -- when we couldn't use 40 MHz we still associated saying we were using 40 MHz, which could in similarly broken APs make us never even connect successfully. mctp: Add SIOCMCTP{ALLOC,DROP}TAG ioctls for tag control This change adds a couple of new ioctls for mctp sockets: SIOCMCTPALLOCTAG and SIOCMCTPDROPTAG. These ioctls provide facilities for explicit allocation / release of tags, overriding the automatic allocate-on-send/release-on-reply and timeout behaviours. This allows userspace more control over messages that may not fit a simple request/response model. net: hsr: add offloading support Add support for offloading of HSR/PRP (IEC 62439-3) tag insertion tag removal, duplicate generation and forwarding. For HSR, insertion involves the switch adding a 6 byte HSR header after the 14 byte Ethernet header. For PRP it adds a 6 byte trailer. Tag removal involves automatically stripping the HSR/PRP header/trailer in the switch. This is possible when the switch also performs auto deduplication using the HSR/PRP header/trailer (making it no longer required). Forwarding involves automatically forwarding between redundant ports in an HSR. This is crucial because delay is accumulated as a frame passes through each node in the ring. Duplication involves the switch automatically sending a single frame from the CPU port to both redundant ports. This is required because the inserted HSR/PRP header/trailer must contain the same sequence number on the frames sent out both redundant ports. Export is_hsr_master so DSA can tell them apart from other devices in dsa_slave_changeupper. netfilter: set default timeout to 3 secs for sctp shutdown send and recv state In SCTP protocol, it is using the same timer (T2 timer) for SHUTDOWN and SHUTDOWN_ACK retransmission. However in sctp conntrack the default timeout value for SCTP_CONNTRACK_SHUTDOWN_ACK_SENT state is 3 secs while it's 300 msecs for SCTP_CONNTRACK_SHUTDOWN_SEND/RECV state. As Paolo Valerio noticed, this might cause unwanted expiration of the ct entry. In my test, with 1s tc netem delay set on the NAT path, after the SHUTDOWN is sent, the sctp ct entry enters SCTP_CONNTRACK_SHUTDOWN_SEND state. However, due to 300ms (too short) delay, when the SHUTDOWN_ACK is sent back from the peer, the sctp ct entry has expired and been deleted, and then the SHUTDOWN_ACK has to be dropped. Also, it is confusing these two sysctl options always show 0 due to all timeout values using sec as unit: net.netfilter.nf_conntrack_sctp_timeout_shutdown_recd = 0 net.netfilter.nf_conntrack_sctp_timeout_shutdown_sent = 0 This patch fixes it by also using 3 secs for sctp shutdown send and recv state in sctp conntrack, which is also RTO.initial value in SCTP protocol. Note that the very short time value for SCTP_CONNTRACK_SHUTDOWN_SEND/RECV was probably used for a rare scenario where SHUTDOWN is sent on 1st path but SHUTDOWN_ACK is replied on 2nd path, then a new connection started immediately on 1st path. net: phy: Introduce PSGMII PHY interface mode The PSGMII interface is similar to QSGMII. The main difference is that the PSGMII interface combines five SGMII lines into a single link while in QSGMII only four lines are combined. Similarly to the QSGMII, this interface mode might also needs special handling within the MAC driver. It is commonly used by Qualcomm with their QCA807x PHY series and modern WiSoC-s. rxrpc: Fix potential race in error handling in afs_make_call() If the rxrpc call set up by afs_make_call() receives an error whilst it is transmitting the request, there's the possibility that it may get to the point the rxrpc call is ended (after the error_kill_call label) just as the call is queued for async processing. This could manifest itself as call->rxcall being seen as NULL in afs_deliver_to_call() when it tries to lock the call. Fix this by splitting rxrpc_kernel_end_call() into a function to shut down an rxrpc call and a function to release the caller's reference and calling the latter only when we get to afs_put_call(). net/smc: Unbind r/w buffer size from clcsock and make them tunable Currently, SMC uses smc->sk.sk_{rcv|snd}buf to create buffers for send buffer and RMB. And the values of buffer size are from tcp_{w|r}mem in clcsock. The buffer size from TCP socket doesn't fit SMC well. Generally, buffers are usually larger than TCP for SMC-R/-D to get higher performance, for they are different underlay devices and paths. So this patch unbinds buffer size from TCP, and introduces two sysctl knobs to tune them independently. Also, these knobs are per net namespace and work for containers. net_tstamp: add SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_ID_TCP Add an option to initialize SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_ID for TCP from write_seq sockets instead of snd_una. This should have been the behavior from the start. Because processes may now exist that rely on the established behavior, do not change behavior of the existing option, but add the right behavior with a new flag. It is encouraged to always set SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_ID_TCP on stream sockets along with the existing SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_ID. Intuitively the contract is that the counter is zero after the setsockopt, so that the next write N results in a notification for the last byte N - 1. On idle sockets snd_una == write_seq and this holds for both. But on sockets with data in transmission, snd_una records the unacked offset in the stream. This depends on the ACK response from the peer. A process cannot learn this in a race free manner (ioctl SIOCOUTQ is one racy approach). write_seq records the offset at the last byte written by the process. This is a better starting point. It matches the intuitive contract in all circumstances, unaffected by external behavior. The new timestamp flag necessitates increasing sk_tsflags to 32 bits. Move the field in struct sock to avoid growing the socket (for some common CONFIG variants). The UAPI interface so_timestamping.flags is already int, so 32 bits wide. net: x25: Remove unimplemented X.25-over-LLC code stubs According to the X.25 documentation, there was a plan to implement X.25-over-802.2-LLC. It never finished but left various code stubs in the X.25 code. At this time it is unlikely that it would ever finish so it may be better to remove those code stubs. Also change the documentation to make it clear that this is not a ongoing plan anymore. xdp: bpf_xdp_metadata use EOPNOTSUPP for no driver support When driver doesn't implement a bpf_xdp_metadata kfunc the fallback implementation returns EOPNOTSUPP, which indicate device driver doesn't implement this kfunc. Currently many drivers also return EOPNOTSUPP when the hint isn't available, which is ambiguous from an API point of view. Instead change drivers to return ENODATA in these cases. There can be natural cases why a driver doesn't provide any hardware info for a specific hint, even on a frame to frame basis (e.g. PTP). Lets keep these cases as separate return codes. When describing the return values, adjust the function kernel-doc layout to get proper rendering for the return values.
