It does so by sending ICMP packets through the test topology and mirroring them to a gretap netdevice. On a busy host however, more than just the test ICMP packets may end up flowing through the topology, get mirrored, and counted. This leads to potential spurious failures as the test observes much more mirrored packets than the sent test packets, and assumes a bug. Fix this by tightening up the mirror action match. Change it from matchall to a flower classifier matching on ICMP packets specifically. selftest/net/xfrm: Add test for ipsec tunnel It's an exhaustive testing for ipsec: covering all encryption/ authentication/compression algorithms. The tests are run in two network namespaces, connected by veth interfaces. To make exhaustive testing less time-consuming, the tests are run in parallel tasks, specified by parameter to the selftest. As the patches set adds support for xfrm in compatible tasks, there are tests to check structures that differ in size between 64-bit and 32-bit applications. The selftest doesn't use libnl so that it can be easily compiled as compatible application and don't require compatible .so. Using the bird service, these routers continuously update BGP-advertised routes due to frequently changing nexthop destinations, while also managing significant IPv6 traffic. The lockups occur during the traversal of the multipath circular linked-list in the fib6_select_path function, particularly while iterating through the siblings in the list. The issue typically arises when the nodes of the linked list are unexpectedly deleted concurrently on a different core—indicated by their 'next' and 'previous' elements pointing back to the node itself and their reference count dropping to zero. This results in an infinite loop, leading to a soft lockup that triggers a system panic via the watchdog timer. Apply RCU primitives in the problematic code sections to resolve the issue. Where necessary, update the references to fib6_siblings to annotate or use the RCU APIs. Include a test script that reproduces the issue. The script periodically updates the routing table while generating a heavy load of outgoing IPv6 traffic through multiple iperf3 clients. It consistently induces infinite soft lockups within a couple of minutes. selftests: net: Add FIN_ACK processing order related latency spike test This commit adds a test for FIN_ACK process races related reconnection latency spike issues. The issue has described and solved by the previous commit ("tcp: Reduce SYN resend delay if a suspicous ACK is received"). The test program is configured with a server and a client process. The server creates and binds a socket to a port that dynamically allocated, listen on it, and start a infinite loop. Inside the loop, it accepts connection, reads 4 bytes from the socket, and closes the connection. The client is constructed as an infinite loop. Inside the loop, it creates a socket with LINGER and NODELAY option, connect to the server, send 4 bytes data, try read some data from server. After the read() returns, it measure the latency from the beginning of this loop to this point and if the latency is larger than 1 second (spike), print a message. selftests: net: ip_defrag: ignore EPERM When running with conntrack rules, the dropped overlap fragments may cause EPERM to be returned to sendto. Instead of completely failing, just ignore those errors and continue. If this causes packets with overlap fragments to be dropped as expected, that is okay. And if it causes packets that are expected to be received to be dropped, which should not happen, it will be detected as failure. The issue typically arises when the nodes of the linked list are unexpectedly deleted concurrently on a different core—indicated by their 'next' and 'previous' elements pointing back to the node itself and their reference count dropping to zero. This results in an infinite loop, leading to a soft lockup that triggers a system panic via the watchdog timer. Apply RCU primitives in the problematic code sections to resolve the issue. Where necessary, update the references to fib6_siblings to annotate or use the RCU APIs. Include a test script that reproduces the issue. selftests/net: relax cpu affinity requirement in msg_zerocopy test The msg_zerocopy test pins the sender and receiver threads to separate cores to reduce variance between runs. But it hardcodes the cores and skips core 0, so it fails on machines with the selected cores offline, or simply fewer cores. The test mainly gives code coverage in automated runs. The throughput of zerocopy ('-z') and non-zerocopy runs is logged for manual inspection. Continue even when sched_setaffinity fails. Just log to warn anyone interpreting the data. selftests: net: return Kselftest Skip code for skipped tests When net test is skipped because of unmet dependencies and/or unsupported configuration, it returns 0 which is treated as a pass by the Kselftest framework. This leads to false positive result even when the test could not be run. Change it to return kselftest skip code when a test gets skipped to clearly report that the test could not be run. Kselftest framework SKIP code is 4 and the framework prints appropriate messages to indicate that the test is skipped. Change psock_tpacket to use ksft_exit_skip() when a non-root user runs the test and add an explicit check for root and a clear message, instead of failing the test when /sys/power/state file open fails. selftests/net: add packet socket packet_snd test Add regression tests for PF_PACKET transmission using packet_snd. The TPACKET ring interface has tests for transmission and reception. This is an initial stab at the same for the send call based interface. Packets are sent over loopback, then read twice. The entire packet is read from another packet socket and compared. The packet is also verified to arrive at a UDP socket for protocol conformance. The test sends a packet over loopback, testing the following options (not the full cross-product): - SOCK_DGRAM - SOCK_RAW - vlan tag - qdisc bypass - bind() and sendto() - virtio_net_hdr - csum offload (NOT actual csum feature, ignored on loopback) - gso Besides these basic functionality tests, the test runs from a set of bounds checks, positive and negative. The test program changes the local port range to use only one port and binds two sockets with or without SO_REUSEADDR and SO_REUSEPORT, and with the same EUID or with different EUIDs, then do listen(). We should be able to bind only one socket having both SO_REUSEADDR and SO_REUSEPORT per EUID, which restriction is to prevent unintentional listen(). selftests/net: add definition for SOL_DCCP to fix compilation errors for old libc Many systems build/test up-to-date kernels with older libcs, and an older glibc (2.17) lacks the definition of SOL_DCCP in /usr/include/bits/socket.h (it was added in the 4.6 timeframe). Adding the definition to the test program avoids a compilation failure that gets in the way of building tools/testing/selftests/net. The test itself will work once the definition is added; either skipping due to DCCP not being configured in the kernel under test or passing, so there are no other more up-to-date glibc dependencies here it seems beyond that missing definition. License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. selftests/net: skip psock_tpacket test if KALLSYMS was not enabled The psock_tpacket test will need to access /proc/kallsyms, this would require the kernel config CONFIG_KALLSYMS to be enabled first. selftests/net: plug rxtimestamp test into kselftest framework Run rxtimestamp as part of TEST_PROGS. Analogous to other tests, add new rxtimestamp.sh wrapper script, so that the test runs isolated from background traffic in a private network namespace. Also ignore failures of test case #6 by default. This case verifies that a receive timestamp is not reported if timestamp reporting is enabled for a socket, but generation is disabled. Receive timestamp generation has to be enabled globally, as no associated socket is known yet. A background process that enables rx timestamp generation therefore causes a false positive. Ntpd is one example that does. Add a "--strict" option to cause failure in the event that any test case fails, including test #6. This is useful for environments that are known to not have such background processes. selftests/net: make so_txtime more robust to timer variance The SO_TXTIME test depends on accurate timers. In some virtualized environments the test has been reported to be flaky. This is easily reproduced by disabling kvm acceleration in Qemu. Allow greater variance in a run and retry to further reduce flakiness. Observed errors are one of two kinds: either the packet arrives too early or late at recv(), or it was dropped in the qdisc itself and the recv() call times out. In the latter case, the qdisc queues a notification to the error queue of the send socket. Also explicitly report this cause. selftests: net: tcp_mmap: Use huge pages in receive path One down side of using TCP rx zerocopy is one extra TLB miss per page after the mapping operation. While if the application is using hugepages, the non zerocopy recvmsg() will not have to pay these TLB costs. This patch allows server side to use huge pages for the non zero copy case, to allow fair comparisons when both solutions use optimal conditions. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. selftests: Add VRF route leaking tests The objective of the tests is to check that ICMP errors generated while crossing between VRFs are properly routed back to the source host. The first ttl test sends a ping with a ttl of 1 from h1 to h2 and parses the output of the command to check that a ttl expired error is received. The second ttl test runs traceroute from h1 to h2 and parses the output to check for a hop on r1. The mtu test sends a ping with a payload of 1450 from h1 to h2, through r1 which has an interface with a mtu of 1400 and parses the output of the command to check that a fragmentation needed error is received. [ The IPv6 MTU test still fails with the symmetric routing setup. It appears to be caused by source address selection picking ::1. Fix by splitting out the sysctl init and cleanup into helpers that can be set to do nothing when CONFIG_SYSCTL is disabled. In addition, move vrf_strict_mode and vrf_strict_mode_change to above vrf_shared_table_handler (code move only) and wrap all of it in the ifdef CONFIG_SYSCTL. Update the strict mode tests to check for the existence of the /proc/sys entry. xfrm: Fix wraparound in xfrm_policy_addr_delta() [ Upstream commit da64ae2d35d3673233f0403b035d4c6acbf71965 ] Use three-way comparison for address components to avoid integer wraparound in the result of xfrm_policy_addr_delta().
