ata: pata_parport: fit3: implement IDE command set registers fit3 protocol driver does not support accessing IDE control registers (device control/altstatus). The DOS driver does not use these registers either (as observed from DOSEMU trace). But the HW seems to be capable of accessing these registers - I simply tried bit 3 and it works! The control register is required to properly reset ATAPI devices or they will be detected only once (after a power cycle). Tested with EXP Computer CD-865 with MC-1285B EPP cable and TransDisk 3000. Also, hacking libahci to always set the upper 21 bits of all DMA addresses to 1 produces no discernible effect on the behavior of the ASM1061, and mkfs/mount/scrub/etc work as without this hack. This all strongly suggests that the ASM1061 has a 43 bit DMA address limit, and this commit therefore adds a quirk to deal with this limit. This issue probably applies to (some of) the other supported ASMedia parts as well, but we limit it to the PCI IDs known to refer to ASM1061 parts, as that's the only part we know for sure to be affected by this issue at this point. To fix introduce the function ceva_ahci_platform_enable_resources() which is a customized version of ahci_platform_enable_resources() and inline with SATA IP programming sequence it does: - Assert SATA reset - Program PS GTR phy - Bring SATA by de-asserting the reset - Wait for GT lane PLL to be locked ceva_ahci_platform_enable_resources() is also used in the resume path as the same SATA programming sequence (as in probe) should be followed. Also cleanup the mixed usage of ahci_platform_enable_resources() and custom implementation in the probe function as both are not required. This means that the ata_for_each_dev loop is never entered, and a 40 wire cable is assumed. The VIA controller on this board does not report the cable in the PCI config space, thus having to fall back to ACPI even though no SATA bridge is present. The _GTM values are correctly reported by the firmware through ACPI, which has already set up faster transfer modes, but due to the above the controller is forced down to a maximum of UDMA/33. Resolve this by modifying ata_acpi_cbl_80wire() to directly return the cable type. First, an unknown cable is assumed which preserves the mode set by the firmware, and then on subsequent calls when the devices have been enabled, an 80 wire cable is correctly detected. Since the function now directly returns the cable type, it is renamed to ata_acpi_cbl_pata_type(). However, the SDB FIS only has fields STATUS and ERROR. For a successful NCQ command that has sense data, we will have a successful sense data descriptor, in the Sense Data for Successful NCQ Commands log. Since we have access to additional taskfile result fields, fill in these additional fields in qc->result_tf. This matches how for failing/aborted NCQ commands, we will use e.g. ahci_qc_fill_rtf() to fill in some fields, but then for the command that actually caused the NCQ error, we will use ata_eh_read_log_10h(), which provides additional fields, saving additional fields/overriding the qc->result_tf that was fetched using ahci_qc_fill_rtf(). When this flag is not set, the CDL_CTRL field of the ATA feature subpage of the control mode page must report a value of 0x00. While a ATA device is supposed to abort a ATA_NOP command, there does seem to be a bug either in libata-sff or QEMU, where either this status is not set, or the status is cleared before read by ata_sff_hsm_move(). Anyway, that is most likely a separate bug. Looking at __atapi_pio_bytes(), it already has a safety check to ensure that __atapi_pio_bytes() cannot write outside the allocated buffer. Add a similar check to ata_pio_sector(), such that also ata_pio_sector() cannot write outside the allocated buffer. ata: scsi: rename flag ATA_QCFLAG_FAILED to ATA_QCFLAG_EH The name ATA_QCFLAG_FAILED is misleading since it does not mean that a QC completed in error, or that it didn't complete at all. It means that libata decided to schedule EH for the QC, so the QC is now owned by the libata error handler (EH). The normal execution path is responsible for not accessing a QC owned by EH. libata core enforces the rule by returning NULL from ata_qc_from_tag() for QCs owned by EH. It is quite easy to mistake that a QC marked with ATA_QCFLAG_FAILED was an error. However, a QC that was actually an error is instead indicated by having qc->err_mask set. E.g. when we have a NCQ error, we abort all QCs, which currently will mark all QCs as ATA_QCFLAG_FAILED. However, it will only be a single QC that is an error (i.e. has qc->err_mask set). Rename ATA_QCFLAG_FAILED to ATA_QCFLAG_EH to more clearly highlight that this flag simply means that a QC is now owned by EH. This new name will not mislead to think that the QC was an error (which is instead indicated by having qc->err_mask set). This also makes it more obvious that the EH code skips all QCs that do not have ATA_QCFLAG_EH set (rather than ATA_QCFLAG_FAILED), since the EH code should simply only care about QCs that are owned by EH itself. License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. ata: pata_arasan_cf: Convert to platform remove callback returning void The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers are converted, .remove_new() is renamed to .remove(). Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. ata: pata_falcon: add data_swab option to byte-swap disk data Some users of pata_falcon on Q40 have IDE disks in default IDE little endian byte order, whereas legacy disks use host-native big-endian byte order as on the Atari Falcon. Add module parameter 'data_swab' to allow connecting drives with non-native data byte order. Drives selected by the data_swap bit mask will have their user data byte-swapped to host byte order, i.e. 'pata_falcon.data_swab=2' will byte-swap all user data on drive B, leaving data on drive A in native byte order. On Q40, drives on a second IDE interface may be added to the bit mask as bits 2 and 3. Default setting is no byte swapping, i.e. compatibility with the native Falcon or Q40 operating system disk format. ata: pata_imx: Use helper function devm_clk_get_enabled() After the commit 7ef9651e9792 ("clk: Provide new devm_clk helpers for prepared and enabled clocks"), the pair of functions devm_clk_get() and clk_prepare_enable() can be replaced with the single function devm_clk_get_enabled(). Moreover, the driver will keep the clock prepared (or enabled) during the whole lifetime of the device, so it is unnecessary to unprepare and disable the clock explicitly when removing the device or in the error handling path. ata: pata_mpc52xx: Convert to platform remove callback returning void The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers are converted, .remove_new() is renamed to .remove(). Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. ata: libata: remove deprecated EH callbacks Now that all libata drivers have migrated to use the error_handler callback, remove the deprecated phy_reset and eng_timeout callbacks. Also remove references to non-existent functions sata_phy_reset and ata_qc_timeout from Documentation/driver-api/libata.rst.
