This config is overly restrictive, while platforms that rely on the SP804 do select it in their Kconfig there are others such as the Arm fast models which have a SP804 available but currently unused by Linux. Relax the dependency to allow it to be user selectable on arm and arm64 to avoid surprises and in case someone comes up with a use for extra timer hardware. clocksource: Verify HPET and PMTMR when TSC unverified On systems with two or fewer sockets, when the boot CPU has CONSTANT_TSC, NONSTOP_TSC, and TSC_ADJUST, clocksource watchdog verification of the TSC is disabled. This works well much of the time, but there is the occasional production-level system that meets all of these criteria, but which still has a TSC that skews significantly from atomic-clock time. This is usually attributed to a firmware or hardware fault. Yes, the various NTP daemons do express their opinions of userspace-to-atomic-clock time skew, but they put them in various places, depending on the daemon and distro in question. It would therefore be good for the kernel to have some clue that there is a problem. The old behavior of marking the TSC unstable is a non-starter because a great many workloads simply cannot tolerate the overheads and latencies of the various non-TSC clocksources. In addition, NTP-corrected systems sometimes can tolerate significant kernel-space time skew as long as the userspace time sources are within epsilon of atomic-clock time. Therefore, when watchdog verification of TSC is disabled, enable it for HPET and PMTMR (AKA ACPI PM timer). This provides the needed in-kernel time-skew diagnostic without degrading the system's performance. Signed-off-by: Paul E. clocksource/drivers/arc_timer: Eliminate redefined macro error In drivers/clocksource/, 3 drivers use "TIMER_CTRL_IE" with 3 different values. Two of them (mps2-timer.c and timer-sp804.c/timer-sp.h) are localized and left unmodifed. One of them uses a shared header file (<soc/arc/timers.h>), which is what is causing the "redefined" warnings, so change the macro name in that driver only. Also change the TIMER_CTRL_NH macro name. Both macro names are prefixed with "ARC_" to reduce the likelihood of future name collisions. clocksource/drivers/arm_arch_timer: limit XGene-1 workaround [ Upstream commit 851354cbd12bb9500909733c3d4054306f61df87 ] The AppliedMicro XGene-1 CPU has an erratum where the timer condition would only consider TVAL, not CVAL. We currently apply a workaround when seeing the PartNum field of MIDR_EL1 being 0x000, under the assumption that this would match only the XGene-1 CPU model. However even the Ampere eMAG (aka XGene-3) uses that same part number, and only differs in the "Variant" and "Revision" fields: XGene-1's MIDR is 0x500f0000, our eMAG reports 0x503f0002. Experiments show the latter doesn't show the faulty behaviour. Increase the specificity of the check to only consider partnum 0x000 and variant 0x00, to exclude the Ampere eMAG. clocksource: Explicitly include correct DT includes The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it was merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. clocksource: dw_apb_timer: Make CPU-affiliation being optional Currently the DW APB Timer driver binds each clockevent timers to a particular CPU. This isn't good for multiple reasons. First of all seeing the device is placed on APB bus (which makes it accessible from any CPU core), accessible over MMIO and having the DYNIRQ flag set we can be sure that manually binding the timer to any CPU just isn't correct. By doing so we just set an extra limitation on device usage. This also doesn't reflect the device actual capability, since by setting the IRQ affinity we can make it virtually local to any CPU. Secondly imagine if you had a real CPU-local timer with the same rating and the same CPU-affinity. In this case if DW APB timer was registered first, then due to the clockevent framework tick-timer selection procedure we'll end up with the real CPU-local timer being left unselected for clock-events tracking. But on most of the platforms (MIPS/ARM/etc) such timers are normally embedded into the CPU core and are accessible with much better performance then devices placed on APB. For instance in MIPS architectures there is r4k-timer, which is CPU-local, assigned with the same rating, and normally its clockevent device is registered after the platform-specific one. So in order to fix all of these issues let's make the DW APB Timer CPU affinity being optional and deactivated by passing a negative CPU id, which will effectively set the DW APB clockevent timer cpumask to 'cpu_possible_mask'. clocksource: remove MODULE_LICENSE in non-modules Since commit 8b41fc4454e ("kbuild: create modules.builtin without Makefile.modbuiltin or tristate.conf"), MODULE_LICENSE declarations are used to identify modules. As a consequence, uses of the macro in non-modules will cause modprobe to misidentify their containing object file as a module when it is not (false positives), and modprobe might succeed rather than failing with a suitable error message. So remove it in the files in this commit, none of which can be built as modules. x86/hyperv: Fix hv tsc page based sched_clock for hibernation stable inclusion from stable-6.6.71 commit a6923798e471570ac1b24086be0a9679f51c3171 category: bugfix issue: #IBIAJE CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zyf1116 <zhouyongfei3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- commit bcc80dec91ee745b3d66f3e48f0ec2efdea97149 upstream. read_hv_sched_clock_tsc() assumes that the Hyper-V clock counter is bigger than the variable hv_sched_clock_offset, which is cached during early boot, but depending on the timing this assumption may be false when a hibernated VM starts again (the clock counter starts from 0 again) and is resuming back (Note: hv_init_tsc_clocksource() is not called during hibernation/resume); consequently, read_hv_sched_clock_tsc() may return a negative integer (which is interpreted as a huge positive integer since the return type is u64) and new kernel messages are prefixed with huge timestamps before read_hv_sched_clock_tsc() grows big enough (which typically takes several seconds). Fix the issue by saving the Hyper-V clock counter just before the suspend, and using it to correct the hv_sched_clock_offset in resume. This makes hv tsc page based sched_clock continuous and ensures that post resume, it starts from where it left off during suspend. Override x86_platform.save_sched_clock_state and x86_platform.restore_sched_clock_state routines to correct this as soon as possible. clocksource/drivers/ingenic-ost: Define pm functions properly in platform_driver struct Commit ca7b72b5a5f2 ("clocksource: Add driver for the Ingenic JZ47xx OST") adds the struct platform_driver ingenic_ost_driver, with the definition of pm functions under the non-existing config PM_SUSPEND, which means the intended pm functions were never actually included in any build. As the only callbacks are .suspend_noirq and .resume_noirq, we can assume that it is intended to be CONFIG_PM_SLEEP. Since commit 1a3c7bb08826 ("PM: core: Add new *_PM_OPS macros, deprecate old ones"), the default pattern for platform_driver definitions conditional for CONFIG_PM_SLEEP is to use pm_sleep_ptr(). As __maybe_unused annotations on the dev_pm_ops structure and its callbacks are not needed anymore, remove these as well. When a cluster powers up the counter will be stopped, with the COUNTSTOP bit set in the GIC_CONFIG register. In single cluster systems, it has been fine to clear COUNTSTOP once in gic_clocksource_of_init() to start the counter. In multi-cluster systems, this will only have started the counter in the boot cluster, and any CPUs in other clusters will find their counter stopped which will break the GIC clock_event_device. Resolve this by having CPUs clear the COUNTSTOP bit when they come online, using the existing gic_starting_cpu() CPU hotplug callback. This will allow CPUs in secondary clusters to ensure that the cluster's GIC counter is running as expected. clocksource: Explicitly include correct DT includes The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it was merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. Yet these two parameters are used by a few drivers, and this can be considered misuse or at least bad practice. Now that the kernel uses C11 to build, these two parameters can be avoided by declaring them internally, thus changing this pattern: struct property *prop; const __be32 *p; u32 val; of_property_for_each_u32(np, "xyz", prop, p, val) { ... } to this: u32 val; of_property_for_each_u32(np, "xyz", val) { ... } However two variables cannot be declared in the for clause even with C11, so declare one struct that contain the two variables we actually need. As the variables inside this struct are not meant to be used by users of this macro, give the struct instance the noticeable name "_it" so it is visible during code reviews, helping to avoid new code to use it directly. Most usages are trivially converted as they do not use those two parameters, as expected. The non-trivial cases are: - drivers/clk/clk.c, of_clk_get_parent_name(): easily doable anyway - drivers/clk/clk-si5351.c, si5351_dt_parse(): this is more complex as the checks had to be replicated in a different way, making code more verbose and somewhat uglier, but I refrained from a full rework to keep as much of the original code untouched having no hardware to test my changes All the changes have been build tested. This is done as the interrupt handler itself reprograms the device when needed before it completes and this avoids this operation to take place twice. It is unclear why this design was chosen, my suspicion is to allow the struct clock_event_device.event_handler callback, which is called while the FLAG_IRQCONTEXT is set, can update the next event without having to write to the device twice. Unfortunately there is a race between when the FLAG_IRQCONTEXT flag is set and later cleared where the interrupt handler have already started to write the next event to the device. If set_next_event() is called in this window the value is only cached in the driver but not written. clocksource: remove MODULE_LICENSE in non-modules Since commit 8b41fc4454e ("kbuild: create modules.builtin without Makefile.modbuiltin or tristate.conf"), MODULE_LICENSE declarations are used to identify modules. As a consequence, uses of the macro in non-modules will cause modprobe to misidentify their containing object file as a module when it is not (false positives), and modprobe might succeed rather than failing with a suitable error message. So remove it in the files in this commit, none of which can be built as modules. clocksource/drivers/timer-atmel-tcb: Fix initialization on SAM9 hardware [ Upstream commit 6d3bc4c02d59996d1d3180d8ed409a9d7d5900e0 ] On SAM9 hardware two cascaded 16 bit timers are used to form a 32 bit high resolution timer that is used as scheduler clock when the kernel has been configured that way (CONFIG_ATMEL_CLOCKSOURCE_TCB). The driver initially triggers a reset-to-zero of the two timers but this reset is only performed on the next rising clock. For the first timer this is ok - it will be in the next 60ns (16MHz clock). For the chained second timer this will only happen after the first timer overflows, i.e. after 2^16 clocks (~4ms with a 16MHz clock). So with other words the scheduler clock resets to 0 after the first 2^16 clock cycles. It looks like that the scheduler does not like this and behaves wrongly over its lifetime, e.g. some tasks are scheduled with a long delay. Why that is and if there are additional requirements for this behaviour has not been further analysed. There is a simple fix for resetting the second timer as well when the first timer is reset and this is to set the ATMEL_TC_ASWTRG_SET bit in the Channel Mode register (CMR) of the first timer. This will also rise the TIOA line (clock input of the second timer) when a software trigger respective SYNC is issued. RISC-V: Allow marking IPIs as suitable for remote FENCEs To do remote FENCEs (i.e. remote TLB flushes) using IPI calls on the RISC-V kernel, we need hardware mechanism to directly inject IPI from the supervisor mode (i.e. RISC-V kernel) instead of using SBI calls. The upcoming AIA IMSIC devices allow direct IPI injection from the supervisor mode (i.e. RISC-V kernel). To support this, we extend the riscv_ipi_set_virq_range() function so that IPI provider (i.e. irqchip drivers can mark IPIs as suitable for remote FENCEs. clocksource/drivers/timer-cs5535: Request irq with non-NULL dev_id Recently all usages of setup_irq() was replaced by request_irq(). request_irq() does a few sanity checks that were not done in setup_irq(), if they fail irq registration will fail. One of the check is to ensure that non-NULL dev_id is passed in the case of shared irq. Fix it by passing non-NULL dev_id while registering the shared irq. clocksource/drivers/timer-gx6605s: Fixup counter reload When the timer counts to the upper limit, an overflow interrupt is generated, and the count is reset with the value in the TIME_INI register. But the software expects to start counting from 0 when the count overflows, so it forces TIME_INI to 0 to solve the potential interrupt storm problem. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. clocksource: Replace setup_irq() by request_irq() request_irq() is preferred over setup_irq(). The early boot setup_irq() invocations happen either via 'init_IRQ()' or 'time_init()', while memory allocators are ready by 'mm_init()'. Per tglx[1], setup_irq() existed in olden days when allocators were not ready by the time early interrupts were initialized. Hence replace setup_irq() by request_irq(). Seldom remove_irq() usage has been observed coupled with setup_irq(), wherever that has been found, it too has been replaced by free_irq(). A build error that was reported by kbuild test robot <lkp@intel.com> in the previous version of the patch also has been fixed. clocksource/drivers/msc313e: Add support for ssd20xd-based platforms On SSD20X family SoCs the timers are connected to a 432MHz clock instead of 12MHz that all the previous chips used. There is no way to reduce or divide these clocks in the clktree yet as we do not know exactly where the 432MHz clock comes from but it is enabled at boot. The SSD20X timers have an input clock divider within the timer itself to configure the frequency. timer0 is preconfigured at power up to run at 12MHz so it is backwards compatible and doesn't need special handling right now. timer1 and timer2 run at 432Mhz at power up so are not backward compatible. This commit adds support for the input clock divider register and sets timer1 and timer2 to run at 48Mhz for clockevents. clocksource: Replace setup_irq() by request_irq() request_irq() is preferred over setup_irq(). The early boot setup_irq() invocations happen either via 'init_IRQ()' or 'time_init()', while memory allocators are ready by 'mm_init()'. Per tglx[1], setup_irq() existed in olden days when allocators were not ready by the time early interrupts were initialized. Hence replace setup_irq() by request_irq(). Seldom remove_irq() usage has been observed coupled with setup_irq(), wherever that has been found, it too has been replaced by free_irq(). A build error that was reported by kbuild test robot <lkp@intel.com> in the previous version of the patch also has been fixed. clocksource/drivers/sp804: Do not use timer namespace for timer_shutdown() function A new "shutdown" timer state is being added to the generic timer code. One of the functions to change the timer into the state is called "timer_shutdown()". This means that there can not be other functions called "timer_shutdown()" as the timer code owns the "timer_*" name space. Rename timer_shutdown() to evt_timer_shutdown() to avoid this conflict. With CLOCK_EVT_FEAT_DYNIRQ set, when broadcast timer could wake up the cores, IPI is not needed. After enabling this feature, especially the scene where cpuidle is enabled can benefit. clocksource/drivers/tegra: Set up maximum-ticks limit properly Tegra's timer has 29 bits for the counter and for the "load" register which sets counter to a load-value. The counter's value is lower than the actual value by 1 because it starts to decrement after one tick, hence the maximum number of ticks that hardware can handle equals to 29 bits + 1. clocksource: Explicitly include correct DT includes The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it was merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. clocksource/drivers/timer-versatile: Clear OF_POPULATED flag The commit 4f41fe386a94 ("clocksource/drivers/timer-probe: Avoid creating dead devices") broke the handling of arm,vexpress-sysreg [1]. The arm,vexpress-sysreg device is handled by both timer-versatile.c and drivers/mfd/vexpress-sysreg.c. While the timer driver doesn't use the device, the mfd driver still needs a device to probe. So, this patch clears the OF_POPULATED flag to continue creating the device.
