When an Icelake or Sapphire Rapids CPU isn't providing the maximum and critical thresholds for particular DIMM the driver should return an error to the userspace instead of giving it stale (best case) or wrong (the structure contains all zeros after kzalloc() call) data. The issue can be reproduced by binding the peci driver while the host is fully booted and idle, this makes PECI interaction unreliable enough. spi: make remove callback a void function The value returned by an spi driver's remove function is mostly ignored. (Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the error is ignored.) So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly. There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to return 0 before. This fixes automatic driver loading by userspace when using device-tree, and if built as a module like major linux distributions do. While devices probe just fine with i2c_device_id table, userspace can't match the "ti,amc6821" compatible string from dt with the plain "amc6821" device id. hwmon: Explicitly include correct DT includes The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. ACPI: make remove callback of ACPI driver void For bus-based driver, device removal is implemented as: 1 device_remove()-> 2 bus->remove()-> 3 driver->remove() Driver core needs no inform from callee(bus driver) about the result of remove callback. In that case, commit fc7a6209d571 ("bus: Make remove callback return void") forces bus_type::remove be void-returned. Now we have the situation that both 1 & 2 of calling chain are void-returned, so it does not make much sense for 3(driver->remove) to return non-void to its caller. So the basic idea behind this change is making remove() callback of any bus-based driver to be void-returned. This change, for itself, is for device drivers based on acpi-bus. This value will cause a division-by-zero error in the show_pwm() function. To prevent this, test the value of fan_from_reg(data->fan_full_speed[nr]) against 0 before performing the division. If the division-by-zero error is avoided, assign 0 to the val variable. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with static analysis tool SVACE. hwmon: (ftsteutates) Fix TOCTOU race in fts_read() stable inclusion from stable-6.6.95 commit d95d87841d2a575bed3691884e8fedef57d7710d category: bugfix issue: #ICCW0G CVE: NA Signed-off-by: Li Nan <linan122@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- commit 14c9ede9ca4cd078ad76a6ab9617b81074eb58bf upstream. In the fts_read() function, when handling hwmon_pwm_auto_channels_temp, the code accesses the shared variable data->fan_source[channel] twice without holding any locks. It is first checked against FTS_FAN_SOURCE_INVALID, and if the check passes, it is read again when used as an argument to the BIT() macro. This creates a Time-of-Check to Time-of-Use (TOCTOU) race condition. Another thread executing fts_update_device() can modify the value of data->fan_source[channel] between the check and its use. If the value is changed to FTS_FAN_SOURCE_INVALID (0xff) during this window, the BIT() macro will be called with a large shift value (BIT(255)). A bit shift by a value greater than or equal to the type width is undefined behavior and can lead to a crash or incorrect values being returned to userspace. Fix this by reading data->fan_source[channel] into a local variable once, eliminating the race condition. Additionally, add a bounds check to ensure the value is less than BITS_PER_LONG before passing it to the BIT() macro, making the code more robust against undefined behavior. This possible bug was found by an experimental static analysis tool developed by our team. hwmon: (i5k_amb, vt8231) Drop uses of pci_read_config_*() return value The return value of pci_read_config_*() may not indicate a device error. However, the value read by these functions is more likely to indicate this kind of error. This presents two overlapping ways of reporting errors and complicates error checking. It is possible to move to one single way of checking for error if the dependency on the return value of these functions is removed, then it can later be made to return void. Remove all uses of the return value of pci_read_config_*(). Check the actual value read for ~0. In this case, ~0 is an invalid value thus it indicates some kind of error. hwmon: (lm70) Add ti,tmp125 support The TMP125 is a 2 degree Celsius accurate Digital Temperature Sensor with a SPI interface. The temperature register is a 16-bit, read-only register. The MSB (Bit 15) is a leading zero and never set. Bits 14 to 5 are the 1+9 temperature data bits in a two's complement format. Bits 4 to 0 are useless copies of Bit 5 value and therefore ignored. This was tested on a Aerohive HiveAP-350. Bonus: lm70 supports TMP122/TMP124 as well. I added them to the Kconfig module description. That means the second alarm register has to be read, even if the chip only supports 8 or fewer ADC channels. MAX16067 and MAX16068 report undervoltage and overvoltage alarms in separate registers. Fold register contents together to report both with the existing alarm attribute. This requires actually storing the chip type in struct max16065_data. hwmon: Explicitly include correct DT includes The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. hwmon: (tmp513) Fix division of negative numbers stable inclusion from stable-6.6.74 commit b9b63c9cc1e04862e54cd100b7e1171275b74f50 category: bugfix issue: #IBLFX7 CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zyf1116 <zhouyongfei3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- [ Upstream commit e2c68cea431d65292b592c9f8446c918d45fcf78 ] Fix several issues with division of negative numbers in the tmp513 driver. The docs on the DIV_ROUND_CLOSEST macro explain that dividing a negative value by an unsigned type is undefined behavior. The driver was doing this in several places, i.e. data->shunt_uohms has type of u32. The actual "undefined" behavior is that it converts both values to unsigned before doing the division, for example: int ret = DIV_ROUND_CLOSEST(-100, 3U); results in ret == 1431655732 instead of -33. Furthermore the MILLI macro has a type of unsigned long. Multiplying a signed long by an unsigned long results in an unsigned long. So, we need to cast both MILLI and data data->shunt_uohms to long when using the DIV_ROUND_CLOSEST macro. When used in lockless contexts involving shared driver data, this leads to Time-of-Check to Time-of-Use (TOCTOU) race conditions, potentially causing divide-by-zero errors. Convert the macro to a static function. This guarantees that arguments are evaluated only once (pass-by-value), preventing the race conditions. Additionally, in store_fan_div, move the calculation of the minimum limit inside the update lock. This ensures that the read-modify-write sequence operates on consistent data. Adhere to the principle of minimal changes by only converting macros that evaluate arguments multiple times and are used in lockless contexts.
