Input: uinput - fix circular locking dependency with ff-core commit 4cda78d6f8bf2b700529f2fbccb994c3e826d7c2 upstream. A lockdep circular locking dependency warning can be triggered reproducibly when using a force-feedback gamepad with uinput (for example, playing ELDEN RING under Wine with a Flydigi Vader 5 controller): ff->mutex -> udev->mutex -> input_mutex -> dev->mutex -> ff->mutex The cycle is caused by four lock acquisition paths: 1. ff upload: input_ff_upload() holds ff->mutex and calls uinput_dev_upload_effect() -> uinput_request_submit() -> uinput_request_send(), which acquires udev->mutex. 2. device create: uinput_ioctl_handler() holds udev->mutex and calls uinput_create_device() -> input_register_device(), which acquires input_mutex. 3. device register: input_register_device() holds input_mutex and calls kbd_connect() -> input_register_handle(), which acquires dev->mutex. 4. evdev release: evdev_release() calls input_flush_device() under dev->mutex, which calls input_ff_flush() acquiring ff->mutex. Fix this by introducing a new state_lock spinlock to protect udev->state and udev->dev access in uinput_request_send() instead of acquiring udev->mutex. The function only needs to atomically check device state and queue an input event into the ring buffer via uinput_dev_event() -- both operations are safe under a spinlock (ktime_get_ts64() and wake_up_interruptible() do not sleep). This breaks the ff->mutex -> udev->mutex link since a spinlock is a leaf in the lock ordering and cannot form cycles with mutexes. To keep state transitions visible to uinput_request_send(), protect writes to udev->state in uinput_create_device() and uinput_destroy_device() with the same state_lock spinlock. Additionally, move init_completion(&request->done) from uinput_request_send() to uinput_request_submit() before uinput_request_reserve_slot(). Once the slot is allocated, uinput_flush_requests() may call complete() on it at any time from the destroy path, so the completion must be initialised before the request becomes visible. Lock ordering after the fix: ff->mutex -> state_lock (spinlock, leaf) udev->mutex -> state_lock (spinlock, leaf) udev->mutex -> input_mutex -> dev->mutex -> ff->mutex (no back-edge) Fixes: ff462551235d ("Input: uinput - switch to the new FF interface") Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org Link: https://lore.kernel.org/all/CABXGCsMoxag+kEwHhb7KqhuyxfmGGd0P=tHZyb1uKE0pLr8Hkg@mail.gmail.com/ Signed-off-by: llj123 <luojie119@h-partners.com> Link: https://patch.msgid.link/20260407075031.38351-1-mikhail.v.gavrilov@gmail.com | 3 个月前 | |

The code checks for presence of F34 "container" pointer and then tries to use the function data attached to the sub-device. F34 assigns the function data early, before it knows if probe will succeed, leaving behind a stale pointer. Fix this by expanding checks to not only test for presence of F34 "container" but also check if there is driver data assigned to the sub-device, and call dev_set_drvdata() only after we are certain that probe is successful. This is not a complete fix, since F34 will be freed during firmware update, so there is still a race when fetching and accessing this pointer. This race will be addressed in follow-up changes. Input: ff-core - prefer struct_size over open coded arithmetic stable inclusion from stable-6.6.39 commit c727e46f0cc8bd81788bb29dac9a0a45f2dfa2eb category: bugfix issue: #IB7W7N CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zhangshuqi <zhangshuqi3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- [ Upstream commit a08b8f8557ad88ffdff8905e5da972afe52e3307 ] This is an effort to get rid of all multiplications from allocation functions in order to prevent integer overflows [1][2]. As the "ff" variable is a pointer to "struct ff_device" and this structure ends in a flexible array: struct ff_device { [...] struct file *effect_owners[] __counted_by(max_effects); }; the preferred way in the kernel is to use the struct_size() helper to do the arithmetic instead of the calculation "size + count * size" in the kzalloc() function. The struct_size() helper returns SIZE_MAX on overflow. So, refactor the comparison to take advantage of this. This way, the code is more readable and safer. Input: try trimming too long modalias strings stable inclusion from stable-6.6.33 commit 68a767dd690bc3d2f3b52d64bc540933d6f97905 category: bugfix issue: #IB7W7N CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zhangshuqi <zhangshuqi3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- commit 0774d19038c496f0c3602fb505c43e1b2d8eed85 upstream. If an input device declares too many capability bits then modalias string for such device may become too long and not fit into uevent buffer, resulting in failure of sending said uevent. This, in turn, may prevent userspace from recognizing existence of such devices. This is typically not a concern for real hardware devices as they have limited number of keys, but happen with synthetic devices such as ones created by xen-kbdfront driver, which creates devices as being capable of delivering all possible keys, since it doesn't know what keys the backend may produce. To deal with such devices input core will attempt to trim key data, in the hope that the rest of modalias string will fit in the given buffer. When trimming key data it will indicate that it is not complete by placing "+," sign, resulting in conversions like this: old: k71,72,73,74,78,7A,7B,7C,7D,8E,9E,A4,AD,E0,E1,E4,F8,174, new: k71,72,73,74,78,7A,7B,7C,+, This should allow existing udev rules continue to work with existing devices, and will also allow writing more complex rules that would recognize trimmed modalias and check input device characteristics by other means (for example by parsing KEY= data in uevent or parsing input device sysfs attributes). Note that the driver core may try adding more uevent environment variables once input core is done adding its own, so when forming modalias we can not use the entire available buffer, so we reduce it by somewhat an arbitrary amount (96 bytes). *: convert stream-like files -> stream_open, even if they use noop_llseek This patch continues 10dce8af3422 (fs: stream_open - opener for stream-like files so that read and write can run simultaneously without deadlock) and c5bf68fe0c86 (*: convert stream-like files from nonseekable_open -> stream_open) and teaches steam_open.cocci to consider files as being stream-like not only if they have .llseek=no_llseek, but also if they have .llseek=noop_llseek. This is safe to do: the comment about noop_llseek says This is an implementation of ->llseek useable for the rare special case when userspace expects the seek to succeed but the (device) file is actually not able to perform the seek. In this case you use noop_llseek() instead of falling back to the default implementation of ->llseek. and in general noop_llseek was massively added to drivers in 6038f373a3dc (llseek: automatically add .llseek fop) when changing default for NULL .llseek from NOP to no_llseek with the idea to avoid breaking compatibility, if maybe some user-space program was using lseek on a device without caring about the result, but caring if it was an error or not. Amended semantic patch produces two changes when applied tree-wide: drivers/hid/hid-sensor-custom.c:690:8-24: WARNING: hid_sensor_custom_fops: .read() has stream semantic; safe to change nonseekable_open -> stream_open. drivers/input/mousedev.c:564:1-17: ERROR: mousedev_fops: .read() can deadlock .write(); change nonseekable_open -> stream_open to fix. Input: touchscreen - avoid bitwise vs logical OR warning A new warning in clang points out a few places in this driver where a bitwise OR is being used with boolean types: drivers/input/touchscreen.c:81:17: warning: use of bitwise '|' with boolean operands [-Wbitwise-instead-of-logical] data_present = touchscreen_get_prop_u32(dev, "touchscreen-min-x", ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This use of a bitwise OR is intentional, as bitwise operations do not short circuit, which allows all the calls to touchscreen_get_prop_u32() to happen so that the last parameter is initialized while coalescing the results of the calls to make a decision after they are all evaluated. To make this clearer to the compiler, use the '|=' operator to assign the result of each touchscreen_get_prop_u32() call to data_present, which keeps the meaning of the code the same but makes it obvious that every one of these calls is expected to happen. Input: extract ChromeOS vivaldi physmap show function Let's introduce a common library file for the physmap show function duplicated between three different keyboard drivers. This largely copies the code from cros_ec_keyb.c which has the most recent version of the show function, while using the vivaldi_data struct from the hid-vivaldi driver.
