dm array: fix cursor index when skipping across block boundaries stable inclusion from stable-6.6.72 commit 71f4123cf2c793b5ced7c74b06a44786dc2033ad category: bugfix issue: #IBIAJE CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zyf1116 <zhouyongfei3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- [ Upstream commit 0bb1968da2737ba68fd63857d1af2b301a18d3bf ] dm_array_cursor_skip() seeks to the target position by loading array blocks iteratively until the specified number of entries to skip is reached. When seeking across block boundaries, it uses dm_array_cursor_next() to step into the next block. dm_array_cursor_skip() must first move the cursor index to the end of the current block; otherwise, the cursor position could incorrectly remain in the same block, causing the actual number of skipped entries to be much smaller than expected. This bug affects cache resizing in v2 metadata and could lead to data loss if the fast device is shrunk during the first-time resume. For example: 1. create a cache metadata consists of 32768 blocks, with a dirty block assigned to the second bitmap block. cache_restore v1.0 is required. cat <<EOF >> cmeta.xml <superblock uuid="" block_size="64" nr_cache_blocks="32768" \ policy="smq" hint_width="4"> <mappings> <mapping cache_block="32767" origin_block="0" dirty="true"/> </mappings> </superblock> EOF dmsetup create cmeta --table "0 8192 linear /dev/sdc 0" cache_restore -i cmeta.xml -o /dev/mapper/cmeta --metadata-version=2 2. bring up the cache while attempt to discard all the blocks belonging to the second bitmap block (block# 32576 to 32767). The last command is expected to fail, but it actually succeeds. dmsetup create cdata --table "0 2084864 linear /dev/sdc 8192" dmsetup create corig --table "0 65536 linear /dev/sdc 2105344" dmsetup create cache --table "0 65536 cache /dev/mapper/cmeta \ /dev/mapper/cdata /dev/mapper/corig 64 2 metadata2 writeback smq \ 2 migration_threshold 0" In addition to the reproducer described above, this fix can be verified using the "array_cursor/skip" tests in dm-unit: dm-unit run /pdata/array_cursor/skip/ --kernel-dir <KERNEL_DIR> Signed-off-by: Ming-Hung Tsai <mtsai@redhat.com> Fixes: 9b696229aa7d ("dm persistent data: add cursor skip functions to the cursor APIs") Reviewed-by: Joe Thornber <thornber@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Mike Snitzer <snitzer@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Sasha Levin <sashal@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: zyf1116 <zhouyongfei3@huawei.com> | 1 年前

dm: introduce audit event module for device mapper To be able to send auditing events to user space, we introduce a generic dm-audit module. It provides helper functions to emit audit events through the kernel audit subsystem. We claim the AUDIT_DM_CTRL type=1336 and AUDIT_DM_EVENT type=1337 out of the audit event messages range in the corresponding userspace api in 'include/uapi/linux/audit.h' for those events. AUDIT_DM_CTRL is used to provide information about creation and destruction of device mapper targets which are triggered by user space admin control actions. AUDIT_DM_EVENT is used to provide information about actual errors during operation of the mapped device, showing e.g. integrity violations in audit log. Following commits to device mapper targets actually will make use of this to emit those events in relevant cases. The audit logs look like this if executing the following simple test: # dd if=/dev/zero of=test.img bs=1M count=1024 # losetup -f test.img # integritysetup -vD format --integrity sha256 -t 32 /dev/loop0 # integritysetup open -D /dev/loop0 --integrity sha256 integritytest # integritysetup status integritytest # integritysetup close integritytest # integritysetup open -D /dev/loop0 --integrity sha256 integritytest # integritysetup status integritytest # dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/loop0 bs=512 count=1 seek=100000 # dd if=/dev/mapper/integritytest of=/dev/null ------------------------- audit.log from auditd type=UNKNOWN[1336] msg=audit(1630425039.363:184): module=integrity op=ctr ppid=3807 pid=3819 auid=1000 uid=0 gid=0 euid=0 suid=0 fsuid=0 egid=0 sgid=0 fsgid=0 tty=pts2 ses=3 comm="integritysetup" exe="/sbin/integritysetup" subj==unconfined dev=254:3 error_msg='success' res=1 type=UNKNOWN[1336] msg=audit(1630425039.471:185): module=integrity op=dtr ppid=3807 pid=3819 auid=1000 uid=0 gid=0 euid=0 suid=0 fsuid=0 egid=0 sgid=0 fsgid=0 tty=pts2 ses=3 comm="integritysetup" exe="/sbin/integritysetup" subj==unconfined dev=254:3 error_msg='success' res=1 type=UNKNOWN[1336] msg=audit(1630425039.611:186): module=integrity op=ctr ppid=3807 pid=3819 auid=1000 uid=0 gid=0 euid=0 suid=0 fsuid=0 egid=0 sgid=0 fsgid=0 tty=pts2 ses=3 comm="integritysetup" exe="/sbin/integritysetup" subj==unconfined dev=254:3 error_msg='success' res=1 type=UNKNOWN[1336] msg=audit(1630425054.475:187): module=integrity op=dtr ppid=3807 pid=3819 auid=1000 uid=0 gid=0 euid=0 suid=0 fsuid=0 egid=0 sgid=0 fsgid=0 tty=pts2 ses=3 comm="integritysetup" exe="/sbin/integritysetup" subj==unconfined dev=254:3 error_msg='success' res=1 type=UNKNOWN[1336] msg=audit(1630425073.171:191): module=integrity op=ctr ppid=3807 pid=3883 auid=1000 uid=0 gid=0 euid=0 suid=0 fsuid=0 egid=0 sgid=0 fsgid=0 tty=pts2 ses=3 comm="integritysetup" exe="/sbin/integritysetup" subj==unconfined dev=254:3 error_msg='success' res=1 type=UNKNOWN[1336] msg=audit(1630425087.239:192): module=integrity op=dtr ppid=3807 pid=3902 auid=1000 uid=0 gid=0 euid=0 suid=0 fsuid=0 egid=0 sgid=0 fsgid=0 tty=pts2 ses=3 comm="integritysetup" exe="/sbin/integritysetup" subj==unconfined dev=254:3 error_msg='success' res=1 type=UNKNOWN[1336] msg=audit(1630425093.755:193): module=integrity op=ctr ppid=3807 pid=3906 auid=1000 uid=0 gid=0 euid=0 suid=0 fsuid=0 egid=0 sgid=0 fsgid=0 tty=pts2 ses=3 comm="integritysetup" exe="/sbin/integritysetup" subj==unconfined dev=254:3 error_msg='success' res=1 type=UNKNOWN[1337] msg=audit(1630425112.119:194): module=integrity op=integrity-checksum dev=254:3 sector=77480 res=0 type=UNKNOWN[1337] msg=audit(1630425112.119:195): module=integrity op=integrity-checksum dev=254:3 sector=77480 res=0 type=UNKNOWN[1337] msg=audit(1630425112.119:196): module=integrity op=integrity-checksum dev=254:3 sector=77480 res=0 type=UNKNOWN[1337] msg=audit(1630425112.119:197): module=integrity op=integrity-checksum dev=254:3 sector=77480 res=0 type=UNKNOWN[1337] msg=audit(1630425112.119:198): module=integrity op=integrity-checksum dev=254:3 sector=77480 res=0 type=UNKNOWN[1337] msg=audit(1630425112.119:199): module=integrity op=integrity-checksum dev=254:3 sector=77480 res=0 type=UNKNOWN[1337] msg=audit(1630425112.119:200): module=integrity op=integrity-checksum dev=254:3 sector=77480 res=0 type=UNKNOWN[1337] msg=audit(1630425112.119:201): module=integrity op=integrity-checksum dev=254:3 sector=77480 res=0 type=UNKNOWN[1337] msg=audit(1630425112.119:202): module=integrity op=integrity-checksum dev=254:3 sector=77480 res=0 type=UNKNOWN[1337] msg=audit(1630425112.119:203): module=integrity op=integrity-checksum dev=254:3 sector=77480 res=0 Signed-off-by: Michael Weiß <michael.weiss@aisec.fraunhofer.de> Signed-off-by: Paul Moore <paul@paul-moore.com> # fix audit.h numbering Signed-off-by: Mike Snitzer <snitzer@redhat.com> | 4 年前
dm: improve hash_locks sizing and hash function Both bufio and bio-prison-v1 use the identical model for splitting their respective locks and rbtrees. Improve dm_num_hash_locks() to distribute across more rbtrees to improve overall performance -- but the maximum number of locks/rbtrees is still 64. Also factor out a common hash function named dm_hash_locks_index(), the magic numbers used were determined to be best using this program: https://gist.github.com/jthornber/e05c47daa7b500c56dc339269c5467fc Signed-off-by: Joe Thornber <ejt@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Mike Snitzer <snitzer@kernel.org> | 3 年前
dm bio prison v1: add dm_cell_key_has_valid_range Don't have bio_detain() BUG_ON if a dm_cell_key is beyond BIO_PRISON_MAX_RANGE or spans a boundary. Update dm-thin.c:build_key() to use dm_cell_key_has_valid_range() which will do this checking without using BUG_ON. Also update process_discard_bio() to check the discard bio that DM core passes in (having first imposed max_discard_granularity based splitting). dm_cell_key_has_valid_range() will merely WARN_ON_ONCE if it returns false because if it does: it is programmer error that should be caught with proper testing. So relax the BUG_ONs to be WARN_ON_ONCE. Signed-off-by: Mike Snitzer <snitzer@kernel.org> | 3 年前

dm-cache: fix warnings about duplicate slab caches stable inclusion from stable-6.6.64 commit f14fc623dd23fc0e1352bddc37d5b66a85dea8c0 category: bugfix issue: #IBE7K0 CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zyf1116 <zhouyongfei3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- commit 346dbf1b1345476a6524512892cceb931bee3039 upstream. The commit 4c39529663b9 adds a warning about duplicate cache names if CONFIG_DEBUG_VM is selected. These warnings are triggered by the dm-cache code. Revert "mm: shrinkers: convert shrinker_rwsem to mutex" Patch series "revert shrinker_srcu related changes". This patch (of 7): This reverts commit cf2e309ebca7bb0916771839f9b580b06c778530. Kernel test robot reports -88.8% regression in stress-ng.ramfs.ops_per_sec test case [1], which is caused by commit f95bdb700bc6 ("mm: vmscan: make global slab shrink lockless"). The root cause is that SRCU has to be careful to not frequently check for SRCU read-side critical section exits. Therefore, even if no one is currently in the SRCU read-side critical section, synchronize_srcu() cannot return quickly. That's why unregister_shrinker() has become slower. After discussion, we will try to use the refcount+RCU method [2] proposed by Dave Chinner to continue to re-implement the lockless slab shrink. So revert the shrinker_mutex back to shrinker_rwsem first. dm cache policy smq: ensure IO doesn't prevent cleaner policy progress When using the cleaner policy to decommission the cache, there is never any writeback started from the cache as it is constantly delayed due to normal I/O keeping the device busy. Meaning @idle=false was always being passed to clean_target_met() Fix this by adding a specific 'cleaner' flag that is set when the cleaner policy is configured. This flag serves to always allow the cleaner's writeback work to be queued until the cache is decommissioned (even if the cache isn't idle). dm cache: prevent BUG_ON by blocking retries on failed device resumes stable inclusion from stable-6.6.93 commit 3986ef4a9b6a0d9c28bc325d8713beba5e67586f category: bugfix issue: #ICCW0G CVE: NA Signed-off-by: Li Nan <linan122@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- [ Upstream commit 5da692e2262b8f81993baa9592f57d12c2703dea ] A cache device failing to resume due to mapping errors should not be retried, as the failure leaves a partially initialized policy object. Repeating the resume operation risks triggering BUG_ON when reloading cache mappings into the incomplete policy object. The resume is expected to fail due to the broken array block. dmsetup create cmeta --table "0 8192 linear /dev/sdc 0" dmsetup create cdata --table "0 65536 linear /dev/sdc 8192" dmsetup create corig --table "0 524288 linear /dev/sdc 262144" dmsetup create cache --notable dmsetup load cache --table "0 524288 cache /dev/mapper/cmeta \ /dev/mapper/cdata /dev/mapper/corig 128 2 metadata2 writethrough smq 0" dmsetup resume cache 4. try resuming the cache again. bitmap: introduce generic optimized bitmap_size() stable inclusion from stable-6.6.48 commit 97a532c3ac4f5219d2fffc7cf1bebbe31a9b0929 category: bugfix issue: #IB7W7N CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zhangshuqi <zhangshuqi3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- commit a37fbe666c016fd89e4460d0ebfcea05baba46dc upstream. The number of times yet another open coded BITS_TO_LONGS(nbits) * sizeof(long) can be spotted is huge. Some generic helper is long overdue. Add one, bitmap_size(), but with one detail. BITS_TO_LONGS() uses DIV_ROUND_UP(). The latter works well when both divident and divisor are compile-time constants or when the divisor is not a pow-of-2. When it is however, the compilers sometimes tend to generate suboptimal code (GCC 13): 48 83 c0 3f add $0x3f,%rax 48 c1 e8 06 shr $0x6,%rax 48 8d 14 c5 00 00 00 00 lea 0x0(,%rax,8),%rdx %BITS_PER_LONG is always a pow-2 (either 32 or 64), but GCC still does full division of nbits + 63 by it and then multiplication by 8. Instead of BITS_TO_LONGS(), use ALIGN() and then divide by 8. GCC: 8d 50 3f lea 0x3f(%rax),%edx c1 ea 03 shr $0x3,%edx 81 e2 f8 ff ff 1f and $0x1ffffff8,%edx Now it shifts nbits + 63 by 3 positions (IOW performs fast division by 8) and then masks bits[2:0]. bloat-o-meter: add/remove: 0/0 grow/shrink: 20/133 up/down: 156/-773 (-617) Clang does it better and generates the same code before/after starting from -O1, except that with the ALIGN() approach it uses %edx and thus still saves some bytes: add/remove: 0/0 grow/shrink: 9/133 up/down: 18/-538 (-520) Note that we can't expand DIV_ROUND_UP() by adding a check and using this approach there, as it's used in array declarations where expressions are not allowed. dm clone metadata: Fix return type of dm_clone_nr_of_hydrated_regions() dm_clone_nr_of_hydrated_regions() returns the number of regions that have been hydrated so far. In order to do so it employs bitmap_weight(). Until now, the return type of dm_clone_nr_of_hydrated_regions() was unsigned long. Because bitmap_weight() returns an int, in case BITS_PER_LONG == 64 and the return value of bitmap_weight() is 2^31 (the maximum allowed number of regions for a device), the result is sign extended from 32 bits to 64 bits and an incorrect value is displayed, in the status output of dm-clone, as the number of hydrated regions. Fix this by having dm_clone_nr_of_hydrated_regions() return an unsigned int. When the initial crypt_convert() returns BLK_STS_DEV_RESOURCE, dm-crypt will try to continue the crypt/decrypt procedure in a kworker. However, it resets tag_offset as zero instead of using the tag_offset related with current sector. It may return unexpected data when using random IV or return unexpected integrity related error. Fix the problem by tracking tag_offset in per-IO convert_context. Therefore, when the crypt/decrypt procedure continues in a kworker, it could use the next tag_offset saved in convert_context. dm-delay: fix a race between delay_presuspend and delay_bio [ Upstream commit 6fc45b6ed921dc00dfb264dc08c7d67ee63d2656 ] In delay_presuspend, we set the atomic variable may_delay and then stop the timer and flush pending bios. The intention here is to prevent the delay target from re-arming the timer again. However, this test is racy. Suppose that one thread goes to delay_bio, sees that dc->may_delay is one and proceeds; now, another thread executes delay_presuspend, it sets dc->may_delay to zero, deletes the timer and flushes pending bios. Then, the first thread continues and adds the bio to delayed->list despite the fact that dc->may_delay is false. Fix this bug by changing may_delay's type from atomic_t to bool and only access it while holding the delayed_bios_lock mutex. Note that we don't have to grab the mutex in delay_resume because there are no bios in flight at this point. However, the corrupt_bio_* functions checked bio_has_data() to see if there was data to corrupt. Since this was the endio function, there was no data left to complete, so bio_has_data() was always false. dm-mirror: fix a tiny race condition stable inclusion from stable-6.6.95 commit 61850a1b26735b601fe3c1dcfcd0dea704eca5de category: bugfix issue: #ICCW0G CVE: NA Signed-off-by: Li Nan <linan122@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- commit 829451beaed6165eb11d7a9fb4e28eb17f489980 upstream. There's a tiny race condition in dm-mirror. The functions queue_bio and write_callback grab a spinlock, add a bio to the list, drop the spinlock and wake up the mirrord thread that processes bios in the list. It may be possible that the mirrord thread processes the bio just after spin_unlock_irqrestore is called, before wakeup_mirrord. This spurious wake-up is normally harmless, however if the device mapper device is unloaded just after the bio was processed, it may be possible that wakeup_mirrord(ms) uses invalid "ms" pointer. Fix this bug by moving wakeup_mirrord inside the spinlock. The following sequence of commands causes a livelock - there will be workqueue process looping and consuming 100% CPU: dmsetup create --notable test truncate -s 1MiB testdata losetup /dev/loop0 testdata dmsetup load test --table '0 2048 linear /dev/loop0 0' dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/dm-0 bs=16k count=1 conv=fdatasync The livelock is caused by the commit fa247089de99. The commit claims that it fixes a race condition, however, it is unknown what the actual race condition is and what program is involved in the race condition. When the inactive table is loaded, the nodes /dev/dm-0 and /sys/block/dm-0 are created. /dev/dm-0 has zero size at this point. When the device is suspended and resumed, the nodes /dev/mapper/test and /dev/disk/* are created. If some program opens a block device before it is created by dmsetup or lvm, the program is buggy, so dm could just report an error as it used to do before. dm thin: make get_first_thin use rcu-safe list first function stable inclusion from stable-6.6.72 commit 6b305e98de0d225ccebfb225730a9f560d28ecb0 category: bugfix issue: #IBIAJE CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zyf1116 <zhouyongfei3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- commit 80f130bfad1dab93b95683fc39b87235682b8f72 upstream. The documentation in rculist.h explains the absence of list_empty_rcu() and cautions programmers against relying on a list_empty() -> list_first() sequence in RCU safe code. This is because each of these functions performs its own READ_ONCE() of the list head. This can lead to a situation where the list_empty() sees a valid list entry, but the subsequent list_first() sees a different view of list head state after a modification. In the case of dm-thin, this author had a production box crash from a GP fault in the process_deferred_bios path. This function saw a valid list head in get_first_thin() but when it subsequently dereferenced that and turned it into a thin_c, it got the inside of the struct pool, since the list was now empty and referring to itself. The kernel on which this occurred printed both a warning about a refcount_t being saturated, and a UBSAN error for an out-of-bounds cpuid access in the queued spinlock, prior to the fault itself. When the resulting kdump was examined, it was possible to see another thread patiently waiting in thin_dtr's synchronize_rcu. The thin_dtr call managed to pull the thin_c out of the active thins list (and have it be the last entry in the active_thins list) at just the wrong moment which lead to this crash. Fortunately, the fix here is straight forward. Switch get_first_thin() function to use list_first_or_null_rcu() which performs just a single READ_ONCE() and returns NULL if the list is already empty. This was run against the devicemapper test suite's thin-provisioning suites for delete and suspend and no regressions were observed. dm-unstriped: cast an operand to sector_t to prevent potential uint32_t overflow stable inclusion from stable-6.6.61 commit edfae9d997c78b4cbd81bd28e14b6f5765df4482 category: bugfix issue: #IB7W7N CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zhangshuqi <zhangshuqi3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- commit 5a4510c762fc04c74cff264cd4d9e9f5bf364bae upstream. This was found by a static analyzer. There may be a potential integer overflow issue in unstripe_ctr(). uc->unstripe_offset and uc->unstripe_width are defined as "sector_t"(uint64_t), while uc->unstripe, uc->chunk_size and uc->stripes are all defined as "uint32_t". It may cause denial-of-service. In fec_read_bufs, there is a loop that has 253 iterations. For each iteration, we may call verity_hash_for_block recursively. There is a limit of 4 nested recursions - that means that there may be at most 253^4 (4 billion) iterations. On X86 (and on other architectures that support unaligned addresses in hardware), "struct bvec_iter" is accessed using the 8-byte and 4-byte memory instructions, however these instructions are less efficient if they operate on unaligned addresses. (on RISC machines that don't have unaligned access in hardware, GCC generates byte-by-byte accesses that are very inefficient - see [1]) This commit reorders the entries in "struct dm_verity_io" and "struct convert_context", so that "struct bvec_iter" is aligned on 8 bytes. md/raid1: Replace zero-length array with flexible-array The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2], introduced in C99: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo array[]; }; By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on. Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by this change: "Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1] sizeof(flexible-array-member) triggers a warning because flexible array members have incomplete type[1]. There are some instances of code in which the sizeof operator is being incorrectly/erroneously applied to zero-length arrays and the result is zero. Such instances may be hiding some bugs. So, this work (flexible-array member conversions) will also help to get completely rid of those sorts of issues. This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle. md raid: fix hang when stopping arrays with metadata through dm-raid mainline inclusion from mainline-6.6.100 commit cefcb9297fbdb6d94b61787b4f8d84f55b741470 category: bugfix issue: #722 CVE: CVE-2026-43309 ------------------------------- md raid: fix hang when stopping arrays with metadata through dm-raid When using device-mapper's dm-raid target, stopping a RAID array can cause the system to hang under specific conditions. This occurs when: - A dm-raid managed device tree is suspended from top to bottom (the top-level RAID device is suspended first, followed by its underlying metadata and data devices) - The top-level RAID device is then removed Removing the top-level device triggers a hang in the following sequence: the dm-raid destructor calls md_stop(), which tries to flush the write-intent bitmap by writing to the metadata sub-devices. However, these devices are already suspended, making them unable to complete the write-intent operations and causing an indefinite block. Fix: - Prevent bitmap flushing when md_stop() is called from dm-raid destructor context and avoid a quiescing/unquescing cycle which could also cause I/O - Still allow write-intent bitmap flushing when called from dm-raid suspend context This ensures that RAID array teardown can complete successfully even when the underlying devices are in a suspended state. This second patch uses md_is_rdwr() to distinguish between suspend and destructor paths as elaborated on above. md: raid0: account for split bio in iostat accounting When a bio is split by md raid0, the newly created bio will not be tracked by md for I/O accounting. Only the portion of I/O still assigned to the original bio which was reduced by the split will be accounted for. This results in md iostat data sometimes showing I/O values far below the actual amount of data being sent through md. md_account_bio() needs to be called for all bio generated by the bio split. A simple example of the issue was generated using a raid0 device on partitions to the same device. Since all raid0 I/O then goes to one device, it makes it easy to see a gap between the md device and its sd storage. Reading an lvm device on top of the md device, the iostat output (some 0 columns and extra devices removed to make the data more compact) was: Device tps kB_read/s kB_wrtn/s kB_dscd/s kB_read md2 0.00 0.00 0.00 0.00 0 sde 0.00 0.00 0.00 0.00 0 md2 1364.00 411496.00 0.00 0.00 411496 sde 1734.00 646144.00 0.00 0.00 646144 md2 1699.00 510680.00 0.00 0.00 510680 sde 2155.00 802784.00 0.00 0.00 802784 md2 803.00 241480.00 0.00 0.00 241480 sde 1016.00 377888.00 0.00 0.00 377888 md2 0.00 0.00 0.00 0.00 0 sde 0.00 0.00 0.00 0.00 0 I/O was generated doing large direct I/O reads (12M) with dd to a linear lvm volume on top of the 4 leg raid0 device. The md2 reads were showing as roughly 2/3 of the reads to the sde device containing all of md2's raid partitions. The sum of reads to sde was 1826816 kB, which was the expected amount as it was the amount read by dd. With the patch, the total reads from md will match the reads from sde and be consistent with the amount of I/O generated. md/raid0: add discard support for the 'original' layout We've found that using raid0 with the 'original' layout and discard enabled with different disk sizes (such that at least two zones are created) can result in data corruption. This is due to the fact that the discard handling in 'raid0_handle_discard()' assumes the 'alternate' layout. We've seen this corruption using ext4 but other filesystems are likely susceptible as well. More specifically, while multiple zones are necessary to create the corruption, the corruption may not occur with multiple zones if they layout in such a way the layout matches what the 'alternate' layout would have produced. Thus, not all raid0 devices with the 'original' layout, different size disks and discard enabled will encounter this corruption. The 3.14 kernel inadvertently changed the raid0 disk layout for different size disks. Thus, running a pre-3.14 kernel and post-3.14 kernel on the same raid0 array could corrupt data. This lead to the creation of the 'original' layout (to match the pre-3.14 layout) and the 'alternate' layout (to match the post 3.14 layout) in the 5.4 kernel time frame and an option to tell the kernel which layout to use (since it couldn't be autodetected). However, when the 'original' layout was added back to 5.4 discard support for the 'original' layout was not added leading this issue. I've been able to reliably reproduce the corruption with the following test case: 1. create raid0 array with different size disks using original layout 2. mkfs 3. mount -o discard 4. create lots of files 5. remove 1/2 the files 6. fstrim -a (or just the mount point for the raid0 array) 7. umount 8. fsck -fn /dev/md0 (spews all sorts of corruptions) Let's fix this by adding proper discard support to the 'original' layout. The fix 'maps' the 'original' layout disks to the order in which they are read/written such that we can compare the disks in the same way that the current 'alternate' layout does. A 'disk_shift' field is added to 'struct strip_zone'. This could be computed on the fly in raid0_handle_discard() but by adding this field, we save some computation in the discard path. Note we could also potentially fix this by re-ordering the disks in the zones that follow the first one, and then always read/writing them using the 'alternate' layout. However, that is seen as a more substantial change, and we are attempting the least invasive fix at this time to remedy the corruption. I've verified the change using the reproducer mentioned above. Typically, the corruption is seen after less than 3 iterations, while the patch has run 500+ iterations. md/md-bitmap: move bitmap_{start, end}write to md upper layer stable inclusion from stable-6.6.79 commit 96156eb5772629b741c3e1b440aaf66eca742bf6 category: bugfix issue: #IC1IVT CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zyf1116 <zhouyongfei3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- commit cd5fc653381811f1e0ba65f5d169918cab61476f upstream. There are two BUG reports that raid5 will hang at bitmap_startwrite([1],[2]), root cause is that bitmap start write and end write is unbalanced, it's not quite clear where, and while reviewing raid5 code, it's found that bitmap operations can be optimized. For example, for a 4 disks raid5, with chunksize=8k, if user issue a IO (0 + 48k) to the array: ┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐ │chunk 0 │ │ ┌────────────┬─────────────┬─────────────┬────────────┼ │ sh0 │A0: 0 + 4k │A1: 8k + 4k │A2: 16k + 4k │A3: P │ │ ┼────────────┼─────────────┼─────────────┼────────────┼ │ sh1 │B0: 4k + 4k │B1: 12k + 4k │B2: 20k + 4k │B3: P │ ┼──────┴────────────┴─────────────┴─────────────┴────────────┼ │chunk 1 │ │ ┌────────────┬─────────────┬─────────────┬────────────┤ │ sh2 │C0: 24k + 4k│C1: 32k + 4k │C2: P │C3: 40k + 4k│ │ ┼────────────┼─────────────┼─────────────┼────────────┼ │ sh3 │D0: 28k + 4k│D1: 36k + 4k │D2: P │D3: 44k + 4k│ └──────┴────────────┴─────────────┴─────────────┴────────────┘ Before this patch, 4 stripe head will be used, and each sh will attach bio for 3 disks, and each attached bio will trigger bitmap_startwrite() once, which means total 12 times. - 3 times (0 + 4k), for (A0, A1 and A2) - 3 times (4 + 4k), for (B0, B1 and B2) - 3 times (8 + 4k), for (C0, C1 and C3) - 3 times (12 + 4k), for (D0, D1 and D3) After this patch, md upper layer will calculate that IO range (0 + 48k) is corresponding to the bitmap (0 + 16k), and call bitmap_startwrite() just once. Noted that this patch will align bitmap ranges to the chunks, for example, if user issue a IO (0 + 4k) to array: - Before this patch, 1 time (0 + 4k), for A0; - After this patch, 1 time (0 + 8k) for chunk 0; Usually, one bitmap bit will represent more than one disk chunk, and this doesn't have any difference. And even if user really created a array that one chunk contain multiple bits, the overhead is that more data will be recovered after power failure. Also remove STRIPE_BITMAP_PENDING since it's not used anymore. md/raid5-ppl: Drop unused argument from ppl_handle_flush_request() ppl_handle_flush_request() takes an struct r5log argument but doesn't use it. It has no buisiness taking this argument as it is only used by raid5-cache and has no way to derference it anyway. Remove the argument. No functional changes intended. md: raid5: use __bio_add_page to add single page to new bio The raid5-ppl submission code uses bio_add_page() to add a page to a newly created bio. bio_add_page() can fail, but the return value is never checked. For adding consecutive pages, the return is actually checked and a new bio is allocated if adding the page fails. Use __bio_add_page() as adding a single page to a newly created bio is guaranteed to succeed. This brings us a step closer to marking bio_add_page() as __must_check.
