As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. mfd: arizona-spi: Set pdata.hpdet_channel for ACPI enumerated devs [ Upstream commit 831d1af85133e1763d41e20414912d9a1058ea72 ] Commit 9e86b2ad4c11 changed the channel used for HPDET detection (headphones vs lineout detection) from being hardcoded to ARIZONA_ACCDET_MODE_HPL (HP left channel) to it being configurable through arizona_pdata.hpdet_channel the DT/OF parsing added for filling arizona_pdata on devicetree platforms ensures that arizona_pdata.hpdet_channel gets set to ARIZONA_ACCDET_MODE_HPL when not specified in the devicetree-node. But on ACPI platforms where arizona_pdata is filled by arizona_spi_acpi_probe() arizona_pdata.hpdet_channel was not getting set, causing it to default to 0 aka ARIZONA_ACCDET_MODE_MIC. This causes headphones to get misdetected as line-out on some models. Fix this by setting hpdet_channel = ARIZONA_ACCDET_MODE_HPL. To simplify the quest to make this function return void, let struct sunxi_rsb_driver::remove return void, too. mfd: axp20x: Update to use maple tree register cache The maple tree register cache is based on a much more modern data structure than the rbtree cache and makes optimisation choices which are probably more appropriate for modern systems than those made by the rbtree cache. In v6.5 it has also acquired the ability to generate multi-register writes in sync operations, bringing performance up to parity with the rbtree cache there. Update the axp20x driver to use the more modern data structure, really it should have been fine even without the most recent round of updates. mfd: cs42l43: Add support for cs42l43 core driver The CS42L43 is an audio CODEC with integrated MIPI SoundWire interface (Version 1.2.1 compliant), I2C, SPI, and I2S/TDM interfaces designed for portable applications. It provides a high dynamic range, stereo DAC for headphone output, two integrated Class D amplifiers for loudspeakers, and two ADCs for wired headset microphone input or stereo line input. As a consequence, uses of the macro in non-modules will cause modprobe to misidentify their containing object file as a module when it is not (false positives), and modprobe might succeed rather than failing with a suitable error message. So remove it in the files in this commit, none of which can be built as modules. mfd: intel-lpss: Fix I2C4 not being available on the Microsoft Surface Go & Go 2 Many DSDTs for Kaby Lake and Kaby Lake Refresh models contain a _SB.PCI0.GEXP ACPI Device node describing an I2C attached PCA953x GPIO expander. This seems to be something which is copy and pasted from the DSDT from some reference design since this ACPI Device is present even on models where no such GPIO expander is used at all, such as on the Microsoft Surface Go & Go 2. This ACPI Device is a problem because it contains a SystemMemory OperationRegion which covers the MMIO for the I2C4 I2C controller. This causes the MFD cell for the I2C4 controller to not be instantiated due to a resource conflict, requiring the use of acpi_enforce_resources=lax to work around this. I have done an extensive analysis of all the ACPI tables on the Microsoft Surface Go and the _SB.PCI0.GEXP ACPI Device's methods are not used by any code in the ACPI tables, neither are any of them directly called by any Linux kernel code. This is unsurprising since running i2cdetect on the I2C4 bus shows that there is no GPIO expander chip present on these devices at all. This commit adds a PCI subsystem vendor:device table listing PCI devices where it is known to be safe to ignore resource conflicts with ACPI declared SystemMemory regions. This makes the I2C4 bus work out of the box on the Microsoft Surface Go & Go 2, which is necessary for the cameras on these devices to work. mfd: intel-m10-bmc: Manage access to MAX 10 fw handshake registers On some MAX 10 cards, the BMC firmware is not available to service handshake registers during secure update erase and write phases at normal speeds. This problem affects at least hwmon driver. When the MAX 10 hwmon driver tries to read the sensor values during a secure update, the reads are slowed down (e.g., reading all D5005 sensors takes ~24s which is magnitudes worse than the normal <0.02s). Manage access to the handshake registers using a rw semaphore and a FW state variable to prevent accesses during those secure update phases and return -EBUSY instead. If handshake_sys_reg_nranges == 0, don't update bwcfw_state as it is not used. This avoids the locking cost. platform/x86: intel_pmc_ipc: Convert to MFD This driver only creates a bunch of platform devices sharing resources belonging to the PMC device. This is pretty much what MFD subsystem is for so move the driver there, renaming it to intel_pmc_bxt.c which should be more clear what it is. MFD subsystem provides nice helper APIs for subdevice creation so convert the driver to use those. Unfortunately the ACPI device includes separate resources for most of the subdevices so we cannot simply call mfd_add_devices() to create all of them but instead we need to call it separately for each device. The new MFD driver continues to expose two sysfs attributes that allow userspace to send IPC commands to the PMC/SCU to avoid breaking any existing applications that may use these. Generally this is bad idea so document this in the ABI documentation. bus: Make remove callback return void The driver core ignores the return value of this callback because there is only little it can do when a device disappears. This is the final bit of a long lasting cleanup quest where several buses were converted to also return void from their remove callback. Additionally some resource leaks were fixed that were caused by drivers returning an error code in the expectation that the driver won't go away. With struct bus_type::remove returning void it's prevented that newly implemented buses return an ignored error code and so don't anticipate wrong expectations for driver authors. mfd: mcp-sa11x0: Remove #ifdef guards for PM related functions Use the new pm_sleep_ptr() macro to handle the .suspend/.resume callbacks. This macro allow the suspend and resume functions to be automatically dropped by the compiler when CONFIG_SUSPEND is disabled, without having to use #ifdef guards. This has the advantage of always compiling these functions in, independently of any Kconfig option. Thanks to that, bugs and other regressions are subsequently easier to catch. mfd: core: Ensure disabled devices are skipped without aborting [ Upstream commit 7ba7bdef4d14e3722e2842da3b48cbadb73e52d6 ] The loop searching for a matching device based on its compatible string is aborted when a matching disabled device is found. mfd: Drop obsolete dependencies on COMPILE_TEST Since commit 0166dc11be91 ("of: make CONFIG_OF user selectable"), it is possible to test-build any driver which depends on OF on any architecture by explicitly selecting OF. Therefore depending on COMPILE_TEST as an alternative is no longer needed. It is actually better to always build such drivers with OF enabled, so that the test builds are closer to how each driver will actually be built on its intended target. Building them without OF may not test much as the compiler will optimize out potentially large parts of the code. In the worst case, this could even pop false positive warnings. Dropping COMPILE_TEST here improves the quality of our testing and avoids wasting time on non-existent issues. As a minor optimization, this also lets us drop of_match_ptr(), as we now know what it will resolve to, we might as well save cpp some work. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. mfd: ocelot: Add support for the vsc7512 chip via spi The VSC7512 is a networking chip that contains several peripherals. Many of these peripherals are currently supported by the VSC7513 and VSC7514 chips, but those run on an internal CPU. The VSC7512 lacks this CPU, and must be controlled externally. Utilize the existing drivers by referencing the chip as an MFD. Add support for the two MDIO buses, the internal phys, pinctrl, and serial GPIO. In particular, the allocation for the array of pointers was converted into a single-pointer allocation. The memory allocation used to occur in two steps: tll = devm_kzalloc(dev, sizeof(struct usbtll_omap), GFP_KERNEL); tll->ch_clk = devm_kzalloc(dev, sizeof(struct clk *) * tll->nch, GFP_KERNEL); And it turned that into the following allocation: tll = devm_kzalloc(dev, sizeof(*tll) + sizeof(tll->ch_clk[nch]), GFP_KERNEL); sizeof(tll->ch_clk[nch]) returns the size of a single pointer instead of the expected nch pointers. This bug went unnoticed because the allocation size was small enough to fit within the minimum size of a memory allocation for this particular case [1]. The complete allocation can still be done at once with the struct_size macro, which comes in handy for structures with a trailing flexible array. Fix the memory allocation to obtain the original size again. mfd: pcf50633: Remove #ifdef guards for PM related functions Use the new EXPORT_GPL_SIMPLE_DEV_PM_OPS() and pm_sleep_ptr() macros to handle the .suspend/.resume callbacks. These macros allow the suspend and resume functions to be automatically dropped by the compiler when CONFIG_SUSPEND is disabled, without having to use #ifdef guards. This has the advantage of always compiling these functions in, independently of any Kconfig option. Thanks to that, bugs and other regressions are subsequently easier to catch. mfd: qcom-spmi-pmic: Fix revid implementation commit 7b439aaa62fee474a0d84d67a25f4984467e7b95 upstream. The Qualcomm SPMI PMIC revid implementation is broken in multiple ways. First, it assumes that just because the sibling base device has been registered that means that it is also bound to a driver, which may not be the case (e.g. due to probe deferral or asynchronous probe). This could trigger a NULL-pointer dereference when attempting to access the driver data of the unbound device. Second, it accesses driver data of a sibling device directly and without any locking, which means that the driver data may be freed while it is being accessed (e.g. on driver unbind). Third, it leaks a struct device reference to the sibling device which is looked up using the spmi_device_from_of() every time a function (child) device is calling the revid function (e.g. on probe). Fix this mess by reimplementing the revid lookup so that it is done only at probe of the PMIC device; the base device fetches the revid info from the hardware, while any secondary SPMI device fetches the information from the base device and caches it so that it can be accessed safely from its children. If the base device has not been probed yet then probe of a secondary device is deferred. mfd: Explicitly include correct DT includes The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. mfd: Add Renesas RZ/G2L MTU3a core driver The RZ/G2L multi-function timer pulse unit 3 (MTU3a) is embedded in the Renesas RZ/G2L family SoCs. It consists of eight 16-bit timer channels and one 32-bit timer channel. It supports the following functions - Counter - Timer - PWM The 8/16/32 bit registers are mixed in each channel. Add MTU3a core driver for RZ/G2L SoC. The core driver shares the clk and channel register access for the other child devices like Counter, PWM and Clock event. mfd: simple-mfd-i2c: Add support for registering devices via MFD cells More devices are cropping up requiring only Regmap initialisation and child registration functionality. We currently only support that if all required devices are represented by their own Device Tree nodes complete with compatible strings. However, not everyone is happy with adding empty nodes that provide no additional device information into the Device Tree. Rather than have a plethora of mostly empty, function-less drivers in MFD, we'll support those simple cases in here instead via MFD cells. There is a period of time while the first caller is calling of_syscon_register() that subsequent callers also fail to find an entry in the syscon_list and then call of_syscon_register() a second time. Fix this by keeping the lock held until after of_syscon_register() completes and adds the node to syscon_list. Convert the spinlock to a mutex as many of the functions called in of_syscon_register() such as kzalloc() and of_clk_get() may sleep. Yet these two parameters are used by a few drivers, and this can be considered misuse or at least bad practice. Now that the kernel uses C11 to build, these two parameters can be avoided by declaring them internally, thus changing this pattern: struct property *prop; const __be32 *p; u32 val; of_property_for_each_u32(np, "xyz", prop, p, val) { ... } to this: u32 val; of_property_for_each_u32(np, "xyz", val) { ... } However two variables cannot be declared in the for clause even with C11, so declare one struct that contain the two variables we actually need. As the variables inside this struct are not meant to be used by users of this macro, give the struct instance the noticeable name "_it" so it is visible during code reviews, helping to avoid new code to use it directly. Most usages are trivially converted as they do not use those two parameters, as expected. The non-trivial cases are: - drivers/clk/clk.c, of_clk_get_parent_name(): easily doable anyway - drivers/clk/clk-si5351.c, si5351_dt_parse(): this is more complex as the checks had to be replicated in a different way, making code more verbose and somewhat uglier, but I refrained from a full rework to keep as much of the original code untouched having no hardware to test my changes All the changes have been build tested. mfd: twl4030: Make twl4030_exit_irq() return void If twl4030_exit_irq() returns an error, the effect is that the caller (twl_remove()) forwards the error to the i2c core without unregistering its dummy slave devices. This only makes the i2c core emit another error message and then it still removes the device. In this situation it doesn't make sense to abort the remove cleanup and not unregister the slave devices. So do that. Then return value is actually unused and twl4030_exit_irq() can better be changed to return no value at all. mfd: ucb1x00: Remove #ifdef guards for PM related functions Use the new DEFINE_SIMPLE_DEV_PM_OPS() and pm_sleep_ptr() macros to handle the .suspend/.resume callbacks. These macros allow the suspend and resume functions to be automatically dropped by the compiler when CONFIG_SUSPEND is disabled, without having to use #ifdef guards. This has the advantage of always compiling these functions in, independently of any Kconfig option. Thanks to that, bugs and other regressions are subsequently easier to catch. mfd: wm5102: Update to use maple tree register cache The maple tree register cache is based on a much more modern data structure than the rbtree cache and makes optimisation choices which are probably more appropriate for modern systems than those made by the rbtree cache. In v6.5 it has also acquired the ability to generate multi-register writes in sync operations, bringing performance up to parity with the rbtree cache there. Update the wm5102 driver to use the more modern data structure. mfd: Explicitly include correct DT includes The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes.
