jbd2: prevent softlockup in jbd2_log_do_checkpoint() stable inclusion from stable-6.6.105 commit 9d98cf4632258720f18265a058e62fde120c0151 category: bugfix issue: #200 CVE: CVE-2025-39782 Signed-off-by: zhangxiaoliang <1554188414@qq.com> --------------------------------------- Both jbd2_log_do_checkpoint() and jbd2_journal_shrink_checkpoint_list() periodically release j_list_lock after processing a batch of buffers to avoid long hold times on the j_list_lock. However, since both functions contend for j_list_lock, the combined time spent waiting and processing can be significant. jbd2_journal_shrink_checkpoint_list() explicitly calls cond_resched() when need_resched() is true to avoid softlockups during prolonged operations. But jbd2_log_do_checkpoint() only exits its loop when need_resched() is true, relying on potentially sleeping functions like __flush_batch() or wait_on_buffer() to trigger rescheduling. If those functions do not sleep, the kernel may hit a softlockup. watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#3 stuck for 156s! jbd2: flush filesystem device before updating tail sequence stable inclusion from stable-6.6.72 commit a71e465f69be5be990c0d0eb1dbf22b2bf931183 category: bugfix issue: #IBIAJE CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zyf1116 <zhouyongfei3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- [ Upstream commit a0851ea9cd555c333795b85ddd908898b937c4e1 ] When committing transaction in jbd2_journal_commit_transaction(), the disk caches for the filesystem device should be flushed before updating the journal tail sequence. However, this step is missed if the journal is not located on the filesystem device. As a result, the filesystem may become inconsistent following a power failure or system crash. Fix it by ensuring that the filesystem device is flushed appropriately. jbd2: remove wrong sb->s_sequence check stable inclusion from stable-6.6.88 commit c88f7328bb0fff66520fc9164f02b1d06e083c1b category: bugfix issue: #IC6IH3 CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zyf1116 <zhouyongfei3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- commit e6eff39dd0fe4190c6146069cc16d160e71d1148 upstream. Journal emptiness is not determined by sb->s_sequence == 0 but rather by sb->s_start == 0 (which is set a few lines above). Furthermore 0 is a valid transaction ID so the check can spuriously trigger. Remove the invalid WARN_ON. jbd2: do not try to recover wiped journal stable inclusion from stable-6.6.93 commit ed88717950ba92827d97706dd3cc4d252450c79d category: bugfix issue: #ICCW0G CVE: NA Signed-off-by: Li Nan <linan122@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- [ Upstream commit a662f3c03b754e1f97a2781fa242e95bdb139798 ] If a journal is wiped, we will set journal->j_tail to 0. There have been many inconsistencies in the file system data. In the case of file system data inconsistency, for example, if the block bitmap of a referenced block is not set, it can lead to the situation where a block being committed is allocated and used again. As a result, the following condition will not be satisfied then trigger BUG_ON. Of course, it is entirely possible to construct a problematic image that can trigger this BUG_ON through specific operations. In fact, I have constructed such an image and easily reproduced this issue. Therefore, J_ASSERT() holds true only under ideal conditions, but it may not necessarily be satisfied in exceptional scenarios. Using J_ASSERT() directly in abnormal situations would cause the system to crash, which is clearly not what we want. So here we directly trigger a JBD abort instead of immediately invoking BUG_ON.
