Change hexdump width to a multiple of 8 bytes 10, 15 and 18 seem quite unnatural byte counts in the context of hex dumps. Standardize on 24 bytes for signatures (to stay within the 80 characters limit) and 16 bytes for everything else. Adjust all test cert dumps to match the new output format. Add config_diagnostics to our configuration files. The change to a more configuration based approach to enable FIPS mode operation highlights a shortcoming in the default should do something approach we've taken for bad configuration files. Currently, a bad configuration file will be automatically loaded and once the badness is detected, it will silently stop processing the configuration and continue normal operations. This is good for remote servers, allowing changes to be made without bricking things. It's bad when a user thinks they've configured what they want but got something wrong and it still appears to work. Implement KEMRecipientInfo (RFC9629) in CMS Also add support for ML-KEM in CMS (draft-ietf-lamps-cms-kyber). Add the -recip_kdf and -recip_ukm parameters to openssl cms -encrypt to allow the user to specify the KDF algorithm and optional user keying material for each recipient. A provider may indicate which RecipientInfo type is supported for a key, otherwise CMS will try to figure it out itself. A provider may also indicate which KDF to use in KEMRecipientInfo if the user hasn't specified one. Add last missing TLSA usage/selector/mtype test case There were no PKIX-TA(0) SPKI(1) Full(0) (i.e. "0 1 0") test cases in "danetest.in". There is now at least a success case, which will exercise freeing the public key after it is sanity checked, since with PKIX-TA(0) there's nothing we can do with just the raw public key, a full chain to a local trust anchor is in any case required. The failure (to match) code path is already well oiled, but failure to decode while adding malfored TLSA records could still use some additional tests... jitter: add a new provider containing a jitter entropy source alone This entropy source can be used instead of SEED-SRC. Sample openssl.cnf configuration is provided. It is built as a separate provider, because it is likely to require less frequent updates than fips provider. The same build likely can span multiple generations of FIPS 140 standard revisions. Note that rand-instances currently chain from public/private instances to primary, prior to consuming the seed. Thus currently a unique ESV needs to be obtained, and resue of jitterentropy.a certificate is not possible as is. Separately a patch will be sent to allow for unchaining public/private RAND instances for the purpose of reusing ESV. Also I do wonder if it makes sense to create a fips variant of stock SEED-SRC entropy source, which in addition to using getrandom() also verifies that the kernel is operating in FIPS mode and thus is likely a validated entropy source. As in on Linux, check that /proc/sys/crypto/fips_enabled is set to 1, and similar checks on Windows / MacOS and so on. Defang the lhash test This is bascially eating my mac, as it now runs for 80 seconds and eats all the CPU's exercising lock contention. This dials it back to consume at most a quarter of the CPU's in use by HARNESS_JOBS, unless LHASH_WORKERS is set to override it in which case we use that. Add LMS evp_test using NIST ACVP test data. This covers all LMS algorithm parameter sets. The following changes were done to handle the tests: (1) Changed LMS to use OSSL_PKEY_PARAM_PUB_KEY instead of OSSL_PKEY_PARAM_ENCODED_PUBLIC_KEY for import/export. (There is no reason to have the encoded form for verify operations). (2) Fixed a bug for W=1 with truncated digests. The checksum was using a value of 8-w, which was off by 1 for this case. A value was added to the ots parameters that represents this value. (3) A check in evp_test for a NID was removed since LMS does not have OIDS (HSS does). (4) the unused PROPERTIES param was removed from the LMS keymanager. Prevent freeing of parent listener in SSL_listen_ex Its been reported that, when using SSL_listen_ex to obtain a new connection from a listener, that, if the listener is freed prior to the obtained connection, we get use-after-free conditions when freeing said obtained connections. This occurs because SSL_listen_ex fails to take a reference on the parent listener SSL object (in the same way that SSL_new_from_listener does). If the listener is freed first, then several listener resources are freed, which the obtained connection still makes use of, hence the use-after-free. The fix is to do what SSL_new_from_listener does, namely: 1) Increase the reference count on the listener SSL object. 2) Ensure that the connection qc->listener points to the listener object so that, when the connection is freed, we call SSL_free on the listener object, dropping the reference count we take in SSL_listen_ex. While we're at it, this PR also modifies the quicapi test for testing the SSL_listen_ex call, freeing the listener first to ensure that the increased refcount holds the SSL object data stable until the connection is freed. Thanks to Stanislav Fort at Asile Research for pointing out this issue. fixes openssl/project#1766 Reviewed-by: Saša Nedvědický <sashan@openssl.org> Reviewed-by: Matt Caswell <matt@openssl.org> (Merged from https://github.com/openssl/openssl/pull/29398) | 8 个月前 | |

Detect and prevent recursive config parsing If a malformed config file is provided such as the following: openssl_conf = openssl_init [openssl_init] providers = provider_sect [provider_sect] = provider_sect The config parsing library will crash overflowing the stack, as it recursively parses the same provider_sect ad nauseum. Prevent this by maintaing a list of visited nodes as we recurse through referenced sections, and erroring out in the event we visit any given section node more than once. Note, adding the test for this revealed that our diagnostic code inadvertently pops recorded errors off the error stack because provider_conf_load returns success even in the event that a configuration parse failed. The call path to provider_conf_load has been updated in this commit to address that shortcoming, allowing recorded errors to be visibile to calling applications. Using OpenSSL Tests
After a successful build, and before installing, the libraries should be tested. Run:
$ make test # Unix
$ mms test ! OpenVMS
$ nmake test # Windows
Warning: you MUST run the tests from an unprivileged account (or disable your privileges temporarily if your platform allows it).
If some tests fail, take a look at the section Test Failures below.
Test Failures
If some tests fail, look at the output. There may be reasons for the failure that isn't a problem in OpenSSL itself (like an OS malfunction or a Perl issue). You may want increased verbosity, that can be accomplished like this:
Full verbosity, showing full output of all successful and failed test cases
(make macro VERBOSE or V):
$ make V=1 test # Unix
$ mms /macro=(V=1) test ! OpenVMS
$ nmake V=1 test # Windows
Verbosity on failed (sub-)tests only
(VERBOSE_FAILURE or VF or REPORT_FAILURES):
$ make test VF=1
Verbosity on failed (sub-)tests, in addition progress on succeeded (sub-)tests
(VERBOSE_FAILURE_PROGRESS or VFP or REPORT_FAILURES_PROGRESS):
$ make test VFP=1
If you want to run just one or a few specific tests, you can use the make variable TESTS to specify them, like this:
$ make TESTS='test_rsa test_dsa' test # Unix
$ mms/macro="TESTS=test_rsa test_dsa" test ! OpenVMS
$ nmake TESTS="test_rsa test_dsa" test # Windows
And of course, you can combine (Unix examples shown):
$ make test TESTS='test_rsa test_dsa' VF=1
$ make test TESTS="test_cmp_*" VFP=1
You can find the list of available tests like this:
$ make list-tests # Unix
$ mms list-tests ! OpenVMS
$ nmake list-tests # Windows
Have a look at the manual for the perl module Test::Harness to see what other HARNESS_* variables there are.
To report a bug please open an issue on GitHub, at https://github.com/openssl/openssl/issues.
For more details on how the make variables TESTS can be used,
see section Running Selected Tests below.
Running Selected Tests
The make variable TESTS supports a versatile set of space separated tokens
with which you can specify a set of tests to be performed. With a "current
set of tests" in mind, initially being empty, here are the possible tokens:
alltests The current set of tests becomes the whole set of available
tests (as listed when you do 'make list-tests' or similar).
xxx Adds the test 'xxx' to the current set of tests.
-xxx Removes 'xxx' from the current set of tests. If this is the
first token in the list, the current set of tests is first
assigned the whole set of available tests, effectively making
this token equivalent to TESTS="alltests -xxx".
nn Adds the test group 'nn' (which is a number) to the current
set of tests.
-nn Removes the test group 'nn' from the current set of tests.
If this is the first token in the list, the current set of
tests is first assigned the whole set of available tests,
effectively making this token equivalent to
TESTS="alltests -xxx".
Also, all tokens except for "alltests" may have wildcards, such as *. (on Unix and Windows, BSD style wildcards are supported, while on VMS, it's VMS style wildcards)
Examples
Run all tests except for the fuzz tests:
$ make TESTS='-test_fuzz*' test
or, if you want to be explicit:
$ make TESTS='alltests -test_fuzz*' test
Run all tests that have a name starting with "test_ssl" but not those starting with "test_ssl_":
$ make TESTS='test_ssl* -test_ssl_*' test
Run only test group 10:
$ make TESTS='10' test
Run all tests except the slow group (group 99):
$ make TESTS='-99' test
Run all tests in test groups 80 to 99 except for tests in group 90:
$ make TESTS='[89]? -90' test
To run specific fuzz tests you can use for instance:
$ make test TESTS='test_fuzz_cmp test_fuzz_cms'
To stochastically verify that the algorithm that produces uniformly distributed random numbers is operating correctly (with a false positive rate of 0.01%):
$ ./util/wrap.sh test/bntest -stochastic
Running Tests in Parallel
By default the test harness will execute the selected tests sequentially.
Depending on the platform characteristics, running more than one test job in
parallel may speed up test execution.
This can be requested by setting the HARNESS_JOBS environment variable to a
positive integer value. This specifies the maximum number of test jobs to run in
parallel.
Depending on the Perl version different strategies could be adopted to select
which test recipes can be run in parallel. In recent versions of Perl, unless
specified otherwise, any task can be run in parallel. Consult the documentation
for TAP::Harness to know more.
To run up to four tests in parallel at any given time:
$ make HARNESS_JOBS=4 test
Random numbers in tests
Some tests use random numbers as part of the test. In some cases a test failure
may occur for some random numbers, but not for others. The seed used for the
rand number generator can be set via the OPENSSL_TEST_RAND_SEED environment
variable. It can also be set via the OPENSSL_TEST_RAND_ORDER environment
variable which additionally randomises the order tests are run in (see below).
When a test fails the test harness will display the seed used during the test
(displaying either the OPENSSL_TEST_RAND_SEED or OPENSSL_TEST_RAND_ORDER
environment variable value that must be used to recreate the results), e.g.
$ make OPENSSL_TEST_RAND_SEED=42 test
Randomisation of Test Ordering
By default, the test harness will execute tests in the order they were added.
By setting the OPENSSL_TEST_RAND_ORDER environment variable to zero, the
test ordering will be randomised. This additionally seeds the random number
generator used within the tests as described in the section above. If a randomly
ordered test fails, the seed value used will be reported. Setting the
OPENSSL_TEST_RAND_ORDER environment variable to this value will rerun the
tests in the same order and will also seed the test random number generator.
This assures repeatability of randomly ordered test runs. This repeatability is
independent of the operating system, processor or platform used.
To randomise the test ordering:
$ make OPENSSL_TEST_RAND_ORDER=0 test
To run the tests using the order defined by the random seed 42:
$ make OPENSSL_TEST_RAND_ORDER=42 test
