dt-bindings: timer: arm,arch_timer: Allow dual compatible string Since the Armv7 and Armv8 architected timers are compatible, it is valid to expose a devicetree node with compatible string "arm,armv8-timer" followed by "arm,armv7-timer". dt-bindings: Add missing 'additionalProperties: false' Setting 'additionalProperties: false' is frequently omitted, but is important in order to check that there aren't extra undocumented properties in a binding. Ideally, we'd just add this automatically and make this the default, but there's some cases where it doesn't work. For example, if a common schema is referenced, then properties in the common schema aren't part of what's considered for 'additionalProperties'. Also, sometimes there are bus specific properties such as 'spi-max-frequency' that go into bus child nodes, but aren't defined in the child node's schema. So let's stick with the json-schema defined default and add 'additionalProperties: false' where needed. This will be a continual review comment and game of wack-a-mole. clocksource: devicetree: Document Conexant Digicolor timer binding The Conexant CX92755 SoC provides 8 32-bit timers as part of its so called "Agent Communication" block. clocksource: Add clockevent support to NPS400 driver Till now we used clockevent from generic ARC driver. This was enough as long as we worked with simple multicore SoC. When we are working with multithread SoC each HW thread can be scheduled to receive timer interrupt using timer mask register. This patch will provide a way to control clock events per HW thread. The design idea is that for each core there is dedicated register (TSI) serving all 16 HW threads. The register is a bitmask with one bit for each HW thread. When HW thread wants that next expiration of timer interrupt will hit it then the proper bit should be set in this dedicated register. When timer expires all HW threads within this core which their bit is set at the TSI register will be interrupted. Driver can be used from device tree by: compatible = "ezchip,nps400-timer0" <-- for clocksource compatible = "ezchip,nps400-timer1" <-- for clockevent Note that name convention for timer0/timer1 was taken from legacy ARC design. This design is our base before adding HW threads. clocksource: Add TI-Nspire timer support This patch adds a clocksource/clockevent driver for the timer found on some models in the TI-Nspire calculator series. The timer has two 16bit subtimers within its memory mapped I/O interface but only the first can generate interrupts. The first subtimer is used to generate clockevents but only if an interrupt number and register is given. The interrupt acknowledgement mechanism is a little strange because the interrupt mask and acknowledge registers are located in another memory mapped I/O peripheral. The address of this register is passed to the driver through device tree bindings. The second subtimer is used as a clocksource because it isn't capable of generating an interrupt. This subtimer is always added. dt-bindings: timer: exynos4210-mct: Add ARTPEC-8 MCT support The ARTPEC-8 has an MCT with 4 global and 8 local timer interrupts. The SoC has a quad-core Cortex-A53 and a single-core Cortex-A5 which share one MCT with one global and eight local timers. The Cortex-A53 and Cortex-A5 do not have cache-coherency between them, and therefore run two separate kernels. The Cortex-A53 boots first and starts the global free-running counter and also registers a clock events device using the global timer. (This global timer clock events is usually replaced by arch timer clock events for each of the cores.) When the A5 boots (via the A53), it should not use the global timer interrupts or write to the global timer registers. This is because even if there are four global comparators, the control bits for all four are in the same registers, and we would need to synchronize between the cpus. Instead, the global timer FRC (already started by the A53) should be used as the clock source, and one of the local timers which are not used by the A53 can be used for clock events on the A5. To support this hardware, add a compatible for the MCT as well as two new properties to describe the hardware-mandated sharing of the FRC and dedicating local timers to specific processors.
