License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. Now calling connect() without first binding socket will result in an error (-EINVAL). Userspace software that relies on the autobind feature might get broken. However, this feature does not seem widely used with this specific driver as it was not reliable at any point of time, and it is already broken anyway. ax.25: x.25: Remove the now superfluous sentinel elements from ctl_table array mainline inclusion from mainline-v6.10-rc1 category: performance This commit comes at the tail end of a greater effort to remove the empty elements at the end of the ctl_table arrays (sentinels) which will reduce the overall build time size of the kernel and run time memory bloat by ~64 bytes per sentinel (further information Link : https://lore.kernel.org/all/ZO5Yx5JFogGi%2FcBo@bombadil.infradead.org/) Avoid a buffer overflow when traversing the ctl_table by ensuring that AX25_MAX_VALUES is the same as the size of ax25_param_table. This is done with a BUILD_BUG_ON where ax25_param_table is defined and a CONFIG_AX25_DAMA_SLAVE guard in the unnamed enum definition as well as in the ax25_dev_device_up and ax25_ds_set_timer functions. The overflow happened when the sentinel was removed from ax25_param_table. The sentinel's data element was changed when CONFIG_AX25_DAMA_SLAVE was undefined. This had no adverse effects as it still stopped on the sentinel's null procname but needed to be addressed once the sentinel was removed. Before above commit, different kind of bugs or corruptions could happen without a major crash. But the root cause is that ax25_kiss_rcv() can queue/mangle input skb without checking if this skb is shared or not. Many thanks to Bernard Pidoux for his help, diagnosis and tests. ax25: Remove broken autobind mainline inclusion from mainline-v6.15-rc1 commit 2f6efbabceb6b2914ee9bafb86d9a51feae9cce8 category: bugfix bugzilla: https://gitee.com/src-openeuler/kernel/issues/IC1QSR CVE: CVE-2025-22109 Reference: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?id=2f6efbabceb6b2914ee9bafb86d9a51feae9cce8 -------------------------------- Binding AX25 socket by using the autobind feature leads to memory leaks in ax25_connect() and also refcount leaks in ax25_release(). It is broken."; "autobinding in this may or may not work"; - it is better to completely remove this feature than to fix it because it is broken and leads to various kinds of memory bugs. Now calling connect() without first binding socket will result in an error (-EINVAL). Userspace software that relies on the autobind feature might get broken. However, this feature does not seem widely used with this specific driver as it was not reliable at any point of time, and it is already broken anyway. E.g. ax25-tools and ax25-apps packages for popular distributions do not use the autobind feature for AF_AX25. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with Syzkaller. ax25: Fix ax25 session cleanup problems There are session cleanup problems in ax25_release() and ax25_disconnect(). If we setup a session and then disconnect, the disconnected session is still in "LISTENING" state that is shown below. Active AX.25 sockets Dest Source Device State Vr/Vs Send-Q Recv-Q DL9SAU-4 DL9SAU-3 ??? LISTENING 000/000 0 0 DL9SAU-3 DL9SAU-4 ??? LISTENING 000/000 0 0 The first reason is caused by del_timer_sync() in ax25_release(). The timers of ax25 are used for correct session cleanup. If we use ax25_release() to close ax25 sessions and ax25_dev is not null, the del_timer_sync() functions in ax25_release() will execute. As a result, the sessions could not be cleaned up correctly, because the timers have stopped. In order to solve this problem, this patch adds a device_up flag in ax25_dev in order to judge whether the device is up. If there are sessions to be cleaned up, the del_timer_sync() in ax25_release() will not execute. What's more, we add ax25_cb_del() in ax25_kill_by_device(), because the timers have been stopped and there are no functions that could delete ax25_cb if we do not call ax25_release(). Finally, we reorder the position of ax25_list_lock in ax25_cb_del() in order to synchronize among different functions that call ax25_cb_del(). The second reason is caused by improper check in ax25_disconnect(). The incoming ax25 sessions which ax25->sk is null will close heartbeat timer, because the check "if(!ax25->sk || ..)" is satisfied. As a result, the session could not be cleaned up properly. In order to solve this problem, this patch changes the improper check to "if(ax25->sk && ..)" in ax25_disconnect(). What`s more, the ax25_disconnect() may be called twice, which is not necessary. For example, ax25_kill_by_device() calls ax25_disconnect() and sets ax25->state to AX25_STATE_0, but ax25_release() calls ax25_disconnect() again. In order to solve this problem, this patch add a check in ax25_release(). If the flag of ax25->sk equals to SOCK_DEAD, the ax25_disconnect() in ax25_release() should not be executed. net: avoid overflow when rose /proc displays timer information. rose /proc code does not serialize timer accesses. Initial report by Bernard F6BVP Pidoux exhibits overflow amounting to 116 ticks on its HZ=250 system. Full timer access serialization would imho be overkill as rose /proc does not enforce consistency between displayed ROSE_STATE_XYZ and timer values during changes of state. The patch may also fix similar behavior in ax25 /proc, ax25 ioctl and netrom /proc as they all exhibit the same timer serialization policy. This point has not been reported though. The sole remaining use of ax25_display_timer - ax25 rtt valuation - may also perform marginally better but I have not analyzed it too deeply. ax.25: x.25: Remove the now superfluous sentinel elements from ctl_table array mainline inclusion from mainline-v6.10-rc1 category: performance This commit comes at the tail end of a greater effort to remove the empty elements at the end of the ctl_table arrays (sentinels) which will reduce the overall build time size of the kernel and run time memory bloat by ~64 bytes per sentinel (further information Link : https://lore.kernel.org/all/ZO5Yx5JFogGi%2FcBo@bombadil.infradead.org/) Avoid a buffer overflow when traversing the ctl_table by ensuring that AX25_MAX_VALUES is the same as the size of ax25_param_table.
