hsr: enhance netlink socket interface to support PRP Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP) is another redundancy protocol introduced by IEC 63439 standard. It is similar to HSR in many aspects:- - Use a pair of Ethernet interfaces to created the PRP device - Use a 6 byte redundancy protocol part (RCT, Redundancy Check Trailer) similar to HSR Tag. - Has Link Redundancy Entity (LRE) that works with RCT to implement redundancy. Key difference is that the protocol unit is a trailer instead of a prefix as in HSR. That makes it inter-operable with tradition network components such as bridges/switches which treat it as pad bytes, whereas HSR nodes requires some kind of translators (Called redbox) to talk to regular network devices. This features allows regular linux box to be converted to a DAN-P box. DAN-P stands for Dual Attached Node - PRP similar to DAN-H (Dual Attached Node - HSR). Add a comment at the header/source code to explicitly state that the driver files also handles PRP protocol as well. Signed-off-by: Murali Karicheri <m-karicheri2@ti.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Revert "net: hsr: use hlist_head instead of list_head for mac addresses" The hlist optimisation (which not only uses hlist_head instead of list_head but also splits hsr_priv::node_db into an array of 256 slots) does not consider the "node merge": Upon starting the hsr network (with three nodes) a packet that is sent from node1 to node3 will also be sent from node1 to node2 and then forwarded to node3. As a result node3 will receive 2 packets because it is not able to filter out the duplicate. Each packet received will create a new struct hsr_node with macaddress_A only set the MAC address it received from (the two MAC addesses from node1). At some point (early in the process) two supervision frames will be received from node1. They will be processed by hsr_handle_sup_frame() and one frame will leave early ("Node has already been merged") and does nothing. The other frame will be merged as portB and have its MAC address written to macaddress_B and the hsr_node (that was created for it as macaddress_A) will be removed. From now on HSR is able to identify a duplicate because both packets sent from one node will result in the same struct hsr_node because hsr_get_node() will find the MAC address either on macaddress_A or macaddress_B. Things get tricky with the optimisation: If sender's MAC address is saved as macaddress_A then the lookup will work as usual. If the MAC address has been merged into macaddress_B of another hsr_node then the lookup won't work because it is likely that the data structure is in another bucket. This results in creating a new struct hsr_node and not recognising a possible duplicate. A way around it would be to add another hsr_node::mac_list_B and attach it to the other bucket to ensure that this hsr_node will be looked up either via macaddress_A _or_ macaddress_B. I however prefer to revert it because it sounds like an academic problem rather than real life workload plus it adds complexity. I'm not an HSR expert with what is usual size of a network but I would guess 40 to 60 nodes. With 10.000 nodes and assuming 60us for pass-through (from node to node) then it would take almost 600ms for a packet to almost wrap around which sounds a lot. net: hsr: fix VLAN add unwind on slave errors [ Upstream commit 2e3514e63bfb0e972b1f19668547a455d0129e88 ] When vlan_vid_add() fails for a secondary slave, the error path calls vlan_vid_del() on the failing port instead of the peer slave that had already succeeded. This results in asymmetric VLAN state across the HSR pair. Fix this by switching to a centralized unwind path that removes the VID from any slave device that was already programmed. net: hsr: add offloading support Add support for offloading of HSR/PRP (IEC 62439-3) tag insertion tag removal, duplicate generation and forwarding. For HSR, insertion involves the switch adding a 6 byte HSR header after the 14 byte Ethernet header. For PRP it adds a 6 byte trailer. Tag removal involves automatically stripping the HSR/PRP header/trailer in the switch. This is possible when the switch also performs auto deduplication using the HSR/PRP header/trailer (making it no longer required). Forwarding involves automatically forwarding between redundant ports in an HSR. This is crucial because delay is accumulated as a frame passes through each node in the ring. Duplication involves the switch automatically sending a single frame from the CPU port to both redundant ports. This is required because the inserted HSR/PRP header/trailer must contain the same sequence number on the frames sent out both redundant ports. net: hsr: fix mac_len checks Commit 2e9f60932a2c ("net: hsr: check skb can contain struct hsr_ethhdr in fill_frame_info") added the following which resulted in -EINVAL always being returned: if (skb->mac_len < sizeof(struct hsr_ethhdr)) return -EINVAL; mac_len was not being set correctly so this check completely broke HSR/PRP since it was always 14, not 20. net: hsr: defer node table free until after RCU readers [ Upstream commit aaec7096f9961eb223b5b149abe9495525c205d9 ] HSR node-list and node-status generic-netlink operations run under rcu_read_lock(). They walk hsr->node_db through hsr_get_next_node() and hsr_get_node_data(), but RTM_DELLINK teardown removes the same node table with plain list_del() and frees each node immediately. That lets a generic-netlink reader hold a struct hsr_node pointer across hsr_dellink(). In a KASAN build, widening the reader window after hsr_get_next_node() obtains the node reproduces a slab-use-after-free when the reader copies node->macaddress_A; the freeing stack is hsr_del_nodes() from hsr_dellink(). Use list_del_rcu() and defer the free through the existing hsr_free_node_rcu() callback. This matches the lifetime rule used by the HSR prune paths, which already delete nodes with list_del_rcu() and call_rcu(). hsr: Synchronize sequence number updates. hsr_register_frame_out() compares new sequence_nr vs the old one recorded in hsr_node::seq_out and if the new sequence_nr is higher then it will be written to hsr_node::seq_out as the new value. This operation isn't locked so it is possible that two frames with the same sequence number arrive (via the two slave devices) and are fed to hsr_register_frame_out() at the same time. Both will pass the check and update the sequence counter later to the same value. As a result the content of the same packet is fed into the stack twice. This was noticed by running ping and observing DUP being reported from time to time. Instead of using the hsr_priv::seqnr_lock for the whole receive path (as it is for sending in the master node) add an additional lock that is only used for sequence number checks and updates. Add a per-node lock that is used during sequence number reads and updates. The panic happens in br_dev_queue_push_xmit() once it receives a corrupted skb with ETH header already pushed in linear data. When it attempts the skb_push() call, there's not enough headroom and skb_push() panics. The corrupted skb is put on the queue by HSR layer, which makes a sequence of unintended transformations when it receives a specific corrupted HSR frame (with incomplete TAG). Fix it by dropping and consuming frames that are not long enough to contain both ethernet and hsr headers. Alternative fix would be to check for enough headroom before skb_push() in br_dev_queue_push_xmit(). In the reproducer, this is injected via AF_PACKET, but I don't easily see why it couldn't be sent over the wire from adjacent network. Further Details: In the reproducer, the following network interface chain is set up: ┌────────────────┐ ┌────────────────┐ │ veth0_to_hsr ├───┤ hsr_slave0 ┼───┐ └────────────────┘ └────────────────┘ │ │ ┌──────┐ ├─┤ hsr0 ├───┐ │ └──────┘ │ ┌────────────────┐ ┌────────────────┐ │ │┌────────┐ │ veth1_to_hsr ┼───┤ hsr_slave1 ├───┘ └┤ │ └────────────────┘ └────────────────┘ ┌┼ bridge │ ││ │ │└────────┘ │ ┌───────┐ │ │ ... ├──────┘ └───────┘ To trigger the events leading up to crash, reproducer sends a corrupted HSR frame with incomplete TAG, via AF_PACKET socket on 'veth0_to_hsr'. The first HSR-layer function to process this frame is hsr_handle_frame(). It and then checks if the protocol is ETH_P_PRP or ETH_P_HSR. If it is, it calls skb_set_network_header(skb, ETH_HLEN + HSR_HLEN), without checking that the skb is long enough. For the crashing frame it is not, and hence the skb->network_header and skb->mac_len fields are set incorrectly, pointing after the end of the linear buffer. I will call this a BUG#1 and it is what is addressed by this patch. In the crashing scenario before the fix, the skb continues to go down the hsr path as follows. hsr_handle_frame() then calls this sequence hsr_forward_skb() fill_frame_info() hsr->proto_ops->fill_frame_info() hsr_fill_frame_info() hsr_fill_frame_info() contains a check that intends to check whether the skb actually contains the HSR header. But the check relies on the skb->mac_len field which was erroneously setup due to BUG#1, so the check passes and the execution continues back in the hsr_forward_skb(): hsr_forward_skb() hsr_forward_do() hsr->proto_ops->get_untagged_frame() hsr_get_untagged_frame() create_stripped_skb_hsr() In create_stripped_skb_hsr(), a copy of the skb is created and is further corrupted by operation that attempts to strip the HSR tag in a call to __pskb_copy(). The skb enters create_stripped_skb_hsr() with ethernet header pushed in linear buffer. The skb_pull(skb_in, HSR_HLEN) thus pulls 6 bytes of ethernet header into the headroom, creating skb_in with a headroom of size 8. The subsequent __pskb_copy() then creates an skb with headroom of just 2 and skb->len of just 12, this is how it looks after the copy: gdb) p skb->len $10 = 12 (gdb) p skb->data $11 = (unsigned char *) 0xffff888041e45382 "\252\252\252\252\252!\210\373", (gdb) p skb->head $12 = (unsigned char *) 0xffff888041e45380 "" It seems create_stripped_skb_hsr() assumes that ETH header is pulled in the headroom when it's entered, because it just pulls HSR header on top. But that is not the case in our code-path and we end up with the corrupted skb instead. I will call this BUG#2 *I got confused here because it seems that under no conditions can create_stripped_skb_hsr() work well, the assumption it makes is not true during the processing of hsr frames - since the skb_push() in hsr_handle_frame to skb_pull in hsr_deliver_master(). I wonder whether I missed something here.* Next, the execution arrives in hsr_deliver_master(). It calls skb_pull(ETH_HLEN), which just returns NULL - the SKB does not have enough space for the pull (as it only has 12 bytes in total at this point). *The skb_pull() here further suggests that ethernet header is meant to be pushed through the whole hsr processing and create_stripped_skb_hsr() should pull it before doing the HSR header pull.* hsr_deliver_master() then puts the corrupted skb on the queue, it is then picked up from there by bridge frame handling layer and finally lands in br_dev_queue_push_xmit where it panics. net: prp: add packet handling support DAN-P (Dual Attached Nodes PRP) nodes are expected to receive traditional IP packets as well as PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol) tagged (trailer) packets. PRP trailer is 6 bytes of PRP protocol unit called RCT, Redundancy Control Trailer (RCT) similar to HSR tag. PRP network can have traditional devices such as bridges/switches or PC attached to it and should be able to communicate. Regular Ethernet devices treat the RCT as pads. This patch adds logic to format L2 frames from network stack to add a trailer (RCT) and send it as duplicates over the slave interfaces when the protocol is PRP as per IEC 62439-3. At the ingress, it strips the trailer, do duplicate detection and rejection and forward a stripped frame up the network stack. PRP device should accept frames from Singly Attached Nodes (SAN) and thus the driver mark the link where the frame came from in the node table.
