tcg: Use HAVE_CMPXCHG128 instead of CONFIG_CMPXCHG128 We adjust CONFIG_ATOMIC128 and CONFIG_CMPXCHG128 with CONFIG_ATOMIC128_OPT in atomic128.h. It is difficult to tell when those changes have been applied with the ifdef we must use with CONFIG_CMPXCHG128. So instead use HAVE_CMPXCHG128, which triggers -Werror-undef when the proper header has not been included. Improves tcg_gen_atomic_cmpxchg_i128 for s390x host, which requires CONFIG_ATOMIC128_OPT. Without this we fall back to EXCP_ATOMIC to single-step 128-bit atomics, which is slow enough to cause some tests to time out. system/cpus: rename qemu_mutex_lock_iothread() to bql_lock() The Big QEMU Lock (BQL) has many names and they are confusing. The actual QemuMutex variable is called qemu_global_mutex but it's commonly referred to as the BQL in discussions and some code comments. The locking APIs, however, are called qemu_mutex_lock_iothread() and qemu_mutex_unlock_iothread(). The "iothread" name is historic and comes from when the main thread was split into into KVM vcpu threads and the "iothread" (now called the main loop thread). I have contributed to the confusion myself by introducing a separate --object iothread, a separate concept unrelated to the BQL. The "iothread" name is no longer appropriate for the BQL. Rename the locking APIs to: - void bql_lock(void) - void bql_unlock(void) - bool bql_locked(void) There are more APIs with "iothread" in their names. Subsequent patches will rename them. There are also comments and documentation that will be updated in later patches. coroutine: Split qemu/coroutine-core.h off qemu/coroutine.h qemu/coroutine.h and qemu/lockable.h include each other. They need each other only in macro expansions, so we could simply drop both inclusions to break the loop, and add suitable includes to files that expand the macros. Instead, move a part of qemu/coroutine.h to new qemu/coroutine-core.h so that qemu/coroutine-core.h doesn't need qemu/lockable.h, and qemu/lockable.h only needs qemu/coroutine-core.h. Result: qemu/coroutine.h includes qemu/lockable.h includes qemu/coroutine-core.h. accel/tcg: move ld/st helpers to ldst_common.c.inc A large chunk of ld/st functions are moved from cputlb.c and user-exec.c to ldst_common.c.inc as their implementation is the same between both modes. Eventually, ldst_common.c.inc could be compiled into a separate target-specific compilation unit, and be linked in with the targets. Keeping CPUArchState usage out of cputlb.c (CPUArchState is primarily used to access the mmu index in these functions). tcg: add perfmap and jitdump Add ability to dump /tmp/perf-<pid>.map and jit-<pid>.dump. The first one allows the perf tool to map samples to each individual translation block. The second one adds the ability to resolve symbol names, line numbers and inspect JITed code. tcg: exclude non-memory effecting helpers from instrumentation There are actually a whole bunch of helpers that don't affect memory that we shouldn't instrument. They are helpfully identified by the TCG_CALL_NO_SIDE_EFFECTS flag which marks out lookup_tb_ptr as well as a lot of the maths helpers. To avoid the string compare we introduce a new flag for plugin internals so we skip that too. accel/tcg/tcg-accel-ops-rr: ensure fairness with icount The round-robin scheduler will iterate over the CPU list with an assigned budget until the next timer expiry and may exit early because of a TB exit. This is fine under normal operation but with icount enabled and SMP it is possible for a CPU to be starved of run time and the system live-locks. For example, booting a riscv64 platform with '-icount shift=0,align=off,sleep=on -smp 2' we observe a livelock once the kernel has timers enabled and starts performing TLB shootdowns. In this case we have CPU 0 in M-mode with interrupts disabled sending an IPI to CPU 1. As we enter the TCG loop, we assign the icount budget to next timer interrupt to CPU 0 and begin executing where the guest is sat in a busy loop exhausting all of the budget before we try to execute CPU 1 which is the target of the IPI but CPU 1 is left with no budget with which to execute and the process repeats. We try here to add some fairness by splitting the budget across all of the CPUs on the thread fairly before entering each one. The CPU count is cached on CPU list generation ID to avoid iterating the list on each loop iteration. With this change it is possible to boot an SMP rv64 guest with icount enabled and no hangs. trace: switch position of headers to what Meson requires Meson doesn't enjoy the same flexibility we have with Make in choosing the include path. In particular the tracing headers are using $(build_root)/$(<D). In order to keep the include directives unchanged, the simplest solution is to generate headers with patterns like "trace/trace-audio.h" and place forwarding headers in the source tree such that for example "audio/trace.h" includes "trace/trace-audio.h". This patch is too ugly to be applied to the Makefiles now. It's only a way to separate the changes to the tracing header files from the Meson rewrite of the tracing logic. system/cpus: rename qemu_mutex_lock_iothread() to bql_lock() The Big QEMU Lock (BQL) has many names and they are confusing. The actual QemuMutex variable is called qemu_global_mutex but it's commonly referred to as the BQL in discussions and some code comments. The locking APIs, however, are called qemu_mutex_lock_iothread() and qemu_mutex_unlock_iothread(). The "iothread" name is historic and comes from when the main thread was split into into KVM vcpu threads and the "iothread" (now called the main loop thread). I have contributed to the confusion myself by introducing a separate --object iothread, a separate concept unrelated to the BQL. The "iothread" name is no longer appropriate for the BQL. Rename the locking APIs to: - void bql_lock(void) - void bql_unlock(void) - bool bql_locked(void) There are more APIs with "iothread" in their names. Subsequent patches will rename them. There are also comments and documentation that will be updated in later patches. accel/tcg: Remove CF_LAST_IO In cpu_exec_step_atomic, we did not set CF_LAST_IO, which lead to a loop with cpu_io_recompile. But since 18a536f1f8 ("Always require can_do_io") we no longer need a flag to indicate when the last insn should have can_do_io set, so remove the flag entirely.
