system/cpus: rename qemu_mutex_lock_iothread() to bql_lock() The Big QEMU Lock (BQL) has many names and they are confusing. The actual QemuMutex variable is called qemu_global_mutex but it's commonly referred to as the BQL in discussions and some code comments. The locking APIs, however, are called qemu_mutex_lock_iothread() and qemu_mutex_unlock_iothread(). The "iothread" name is historic and comes from when the main thread was split into into KVM vcpu threads and the "iothread" (now called the main loop thread). I have contributed to the confusion myself by introducing a separate --object iothread, a separate concept unrelated to the BQL. The "iothread" name is no longer appropriate for the BQL. Rename the locking APIs to: - void bql_lock(void) - void bql_unlock(void) - bool bql_locked(void) There are more APIs with "iothread" in their names. Subsequent patches will rename them. There are also comments and documentation that will be updated in later patches. This header file is included by a lot of source files, most of which don't need these functions. Move the feature test functions to their own header file. target/arm/arm-powerctl: Add new arm_set_cpu_on_and_reset() Currently the Arm arm-powerctl.h APIs allow: * arm_set_cpu_on(), which powers on a CPU and sets its initial PC and other startup state * arm_reset_cpu(), which resets a CPU which is already on (and fails if the CPU is powered off) but there is no way to say "power on a CPU as if it had just come out of reset and don't do anything else to it". Add a new function arm_set_cpu_on_and_reset(), which does this. target/arm/common-semi-target.h: Remove unnecessary boot.h include The hw/arm/boot.h include in common-semi-target.h is not actually needed, and it's a bit odd because it pulls a hw/arm header into a target/arm file. This include was originally needed because the semihosting code used the arm_boot_info struct to get the base address of the RAM in system emulation, to use in a (bad) heuristic for the return values for the SYS_HEAPINFO semihosting call. We've since overhauled how we calculate the HEAPINFO values in system emulation, and the code no longer uses the arm_boot_info struct. Remove the now-redundant include line, and instead directly include the cpu-qom.h header that we were previously getting via boot.h. target/arm: Saturate L2CTLR_EL1 core count field rather than overflowing The IMPDEF sysreg L2CTLR_EL1 found on the Cortex-A35, A53, A57, A72 and which we (arguably dubiously) also provide in '-cpu max' has a 2 bit field for the number of processors in the cluster. On real hardware this must be sufficient because it can only be configured with up to 4 CPUs in the cluster. However on QEMU if the board code does not explicitly configure the code into clusters with the right CPU count we default to "give the value assuming that all CPUs in the system are in a single cluster", which might be too big to fit in the field. Instead of just overflowing this 2-bit field, saturate to 3 (meaning "4 CPUs", so at least we don't overwrite other fields in the register. It's unlikely that any guest code really cares about the value in this field; at least, if it does it probably also wants the system to be more closely matching real hardware, i.e. not to have more than 4 CPUs. This issue has been present since the L2CTLR was first added in commit 377a44ec8f2fac5b back in 2014. It was only noticed because Coverity complains (CID 1509227) that the shift might overflow 32 bits and inadvertently sign extend into the top half of the 64 bit value. target/arm: Implement FEAT_NV2 redirection of sysregs to RAM FEAT_NV2 requires that when HCR_EL2.{NV,NV2} == 0b11 then accesses by EL1 to certain system registers are redirected to RAM. The full list of affected registers is in the table in rule R_CSRPQ in the Arm ARM. The registers may be normally accessible at EL1 (like ACTLR_EL1), or normally UNDEF at EL1 (like HCR_EL2). Some registers redirect to RAM only when HCR_EL2.NV1 is 0, and some only when HCR_EL2.NV1 is 1; others trap in both cases. Add the infrastructure for identifying which registers should be redirected and turning them into memory accesses. This code does not set the correct syndrome or arrange for the exception to be taken to the correct target EL if the access via VNCR_EL2 faults; we will do that in the next commit. Subsequent commits will mark up the relevant regdefs to set their nv2_redirect_offset, and if relevant one of the two flags which indicates that the redirect happens only for a particular value of HCR_EL2.NV1. target/arm: Replace TARGET_PAGE_ENTRY_EXTRA TARGET_PAGE_ENTRY_EXTRA is a macro that allows guests to specify additional fields for caching with the full TLB entry. This macro is replaced with a union in CPUTLBEntryFull, thus making CPUTLB target-agnostic at the cost of slightly inflated CPUTLBEntryFull for non-arm guests. Note, this is needed to ensure that fields in CPUTLB don't vary in offset between various targets. (arm is the only guest actually making use of this feature.) target: Move ArchCPUClass definition to 'cpu.h' The OBJECT_DECLARE_CPU_TYPE() macro forward-declares each ArchCPUClass type. These forward declarations are sufficient for code in hw/ to use the QOM definitions. No need to expose these structure definitions. Keep each local to their target/ by moving them to the corresponding "cpu.h" header. target/arm: Report VNCR_EL2 based faults correctly If FEAT_NV2 redirects a system register access to a memory offset from VNCR_EL2, that access might fault. In this case we need to report the correct syndrome information: * Data Abort, from same-EL * no ISS information * the VNCR bit (bit 13) is set and the exception must be taken to EL2. Save an appropriate syndrome template when generating code; we can then use that to: * select the right target EL * reconstitute a correct final syndrome for the data abort * report the right syndrome if we take a FEAT_RME granule protection fault on the VNCR-based write Note that because VNCR is bit 13, we must start keeping bit 13 in template syndromes, by adjusting ARM_INSN_START_WORD2_SHIFT. target/arm: Mark up VNCR offsets (offsets 0x100..0x160) Mark up the cpreginfo structs to indicate offsets for system registers from VNCR_EL2, as defined in table D8-66 in rule R_CSRPQ in the Arm ARM. This commit covers offsets 0x100 to 0x160. Many (but not all) of the registers in this range have _EL12 aliases, and the slot in memory is shared between the _EL12 version of the register and the _EL1 version. Where we programmatically generate the regdef for the _EL12 register, arrange that its nv2_redirect_offset is set up correctly to do this. target/arm: Correct AArch64.S2MinTxSZ 32-bit EL1 input size check In check_s2_mmu_setup() we have a check that is attempting to implement the part of AArch64.S2MinTxSZ that is specific to when EL1 is AArch32: if !s1aarch64 then // EL1 is AArch32 min_txsz = Min(min_txsz, 24); Unfortunately we got this wrong in two ways: (1) The minimum txsz corresponds to a maximum inputsize, but we got the sense of the comparison wrong and were faulting for all inputsizes less than 40 bits (2) We try to implement this as an extra check that happens after we've done the same txsz checks we would do for an AArch64 EL1, but in fact the pseudocode is *loosening* the requirements, so that txsz values that would fault for an AArch64 EL1 do not fault for AArch32 EL1, because it does Min(old_min, 24), not Max(old_min, 24). You can see this also in the text of the Arm ARM in table D8-8, which shows that where the implemented PA size is less than 40 bits an AArch32 EL1 is still OK with a configured stage2 T0SZ for a 40 bit IPA, whereas if EL1 is AArch64 then the T0SZ must be big enough to constrain the IPA to the implemented PA size. Because of part (2), we can't do this as a separate check, but have to integrate it into aa64_va_parameters(). Add a new argument to that function to indicate that EL1 is 32-bit. All the existing callsites except the one in get_phys_addr_lpae() can pass 'false', because they are either doing a lookup for a stage 1 regime or else they don't care about the tsz/tsz_oob fields. hvf: add guest debugging handlers for Apple Silicon hosts Guests can now be debugged through the gdbstub. Support is added for single-stepping, software breakpoints, hardware breakpoints and watchpoints. The code has been structured like the KVM counterpart. While guest debugging is enabled, the guest can still read and write the DBG*_EL1 registers but they don't have any effect. Move target-* CPU file into a target/ folder We've currently got 18 architectures in QEMU, and thus 18 target-xxx folders in the root folder of the QEMU source tree. More architectures (e.g. RISC-V, AVR) are likely to be included soon, too, so the main folder of the QEMU sources slowly gets quite overcrowded with the target-xxx folders. To disburden the main folder a little bit, let's move the target-xxx folders into a dedicated target/ folder, so that target-xxx/ simply becomes target/xxx/ instead. target/arm: Handle FEAT_NV page table attribute changes FEAT_NV requires that when HCR_EL2.{NV,NV1} == {1,1} the handling of some of the page table attribute bits changes for the EL1&0 translation regime: * for block and page descriptors: - bit [54] holds PXN, not UXN - bit [53] is RES0, and the effective value of UXN is 0 - bit [6], AP[1], is treated as 0 * for table descriptors, when hierarchical permissions are enabled: - bit [60] holds PXNTable, not UXNTable - bit [59] is RES0 - bit [61], APTable[0] is treated as 0 Implement these changes to the page table attribute handling. target/arm: Report VNCR_EL2 based faults correctly If FEAT_NV2 redirects a system register access to a memory offset from VNCR_EL2, that access might fault. In this case we need to report the correct syndrome information: * Data Abort, from same-EL * no ISS information * the VNCR bit (bit 13) is set and the exception must be taken to EL2. Save an appropriate syndrome template when generating code; we can then use that to: * select the right target EL * reconstitute a correct final syndrome for the data abort * report the right syndrome if we take a FEAT_RME granule protection fault on the VNCR-based write Note that because VNCR is bit 13, we must start keeping bit 13 in template syndromes, by adjusting ARM_INSN_START_WORD2_SHIFT. target/arm/helper: Implement CNTHCTL_EL2.CNT[VP]MASK When FEAT_RME is implemented, these bits override the value of CNT[VP]_CTL_EL0.IMASK in Realm and Root state. Move the IRQ state update into a new gt_update_irq() function and test those bits every time we recompute the IRQ state. Since we're removing the IRQ state from some trace events, add a new trace event for gt_update_irq(). trace: switch position of headers to what Meson requires Meson doesn't enjoy the same flexibility we have with Make in choosing the include path. In particular the tracing headers are using $(build_root)/$(<D). In order to keep the include directives unchanged, the simplest solution is to generate headers with patterns like "trace/trace-audio.h" and place forwarding headers in the source tree such that for example "audio/trace.h" includes "trace/trace-audio.h". This patch is too ugly to be applied to the Makefiles now. It's only a way to separate the changes to the tracing header files from the Meson rewrite of the tracing logic. target/arm: Move feature test functions to their own header The feature test functions isar_feature_*() now take up nearly a thousand lines in target/arm/cpu.h. This header file is included by a lot of source files, most of which don't need these functions. Move the feature test functions to their own header file.
