ACPICA: Avoid walking the Namespace if start_node is NULL stable inclusion from stable-6.6.105 commit 9d6c58dae8f6 category: bugfix issue: #223 CVE: CVE-2025-71118 Signed-off-by: zxl <1554188414@qq.com> ------------------------------- ACPICA: Avoid walking the Namespace if start_node is NULL Although commit 0c9992315e73 ("ACPICA: Avoid walking the ACPI Namespace if it is not there") fixed the situation when both start_node and acpi_gbl_root_node are NULL, the Linux kernel mainline now still crashed on Honor Magicbook 14 Pro [1]. That happens due to the access to the member of parent_node in acpi_ns_get_next_node(). The NULL pointer dereference will always happen, no matter whether or not the start_node is equal to ACPI_ROOT_OBJECT, so move the check of start_node being NULL out of the if block. Unfortunately, all the attempts to contact Honor have failed, they refused to provide any technical support for Linux. The bad DSDT table's dump could be found on GitHub [2]. firmware: SDEI: Allow sdei initialization without ACPI_APEI_GHES stable inclusion from stable-6.6.94 commit 99d4011a0a322e3eb0a7828630145311b8a0b58e category: bugfix issue: #ICCW0G CVE: NA Signed-off-by: Li Nan <linan122@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- [ Upstream commit 59529bbe642de4eb2191a541d9b4bae7eb73862e ] SDEI usually initialize with the ACPI table, but on platforms where ACPI is not used, the SDEI feature can still be used to handle specific firmware calls or other customized purposes. Therefore, it is not necessary for ARM_SDE_INTERFACE to depend on ACPI_APEI_GHES. In commit dc4e8c07e9e2 ("ACPI: APEI: explicit init of HEST and GHES in acpi_init()"), to make APEI ready earlier, sdei_init was moved into acpi_ghes_init instead of being a standalone initcall, adding ACPI_APEI_GHES dependency to ARM_SDE_INTERFACE. This restricts the flexibility and usability of SDEI. This patch corrects the dependency in Kconfig and splits sdei_init() into two separate functions: sdei_init() and acpi_sdei_init(). sdei_init() will be called by arch_initcall and will only initialize the platform driver, while acpi_sdei_init() will initialize the device from acpi_ghes_init() when ACPI is ready. This allows the initialization of SDEI without ACPI_APEI_GHES enabled. acpi: nfit: fix narrowing conversion in acpi_nfit_ctl stable inclusion from stable-6.6.87 commit c90402d2a226ff7afbe1d0650bee8ecc15a91049 category: bugfix issue: #IC6IH3 CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zyf1116 <zhouyongfei3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- commit 2ff0e408db36c21ed3fa5e3c1e0e687c82cf132f upstream. Syzkaller has reported a warning in to_nfit_bus_uuid(): "only secondary bus families can be translated". This warning is emited if the argument is equal to NVDIMM_BUS_FAMILY_NFIT == 0. Function acpi_nfit_ctl() first verifies that a user-provided value call_pkg->nd_family of type u64 is not equal to 0. Then the value is converted to int, and only after that is compared to NVDIMM_BUS_FAMILY_MAX. This can lead to passing an invalid argument to acpi_nfit_ctl(), if call_pkg->nd_family is non-zero, while the lower 32 bits are zero. Furthermore, it is best to return EINVAL immediately upon seeing the invalid user input. The WARNING is insufficient to prevent further undefined behavior based on other invalid user input. All checks of the input value should be applied to the original variable call_pkg->nd_family. x86/numa: Fix SRAT lookup of CFMWS ranges with numa_fill_memblks() stable inclusion from stable-6.6.33 commit db9214833e58ff23d52b5bbc98a50e3f5e76db2a category: bugfix issue: #IB7W7N CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zhangshuqi <zhangshuqi3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- [ Upstream commit f9f67e5adc8dc2e1cc51ab2d3d6382fa97f074d4 ] For configurations that have the kconfig option NUMA_KEEP_MEMINFO disabled, numa_fill_memblks() only returns with NUMA_NO_MEMBLK (-1). SRAT lookup fails then because an existing SRAT memory range cannot be found for a CFMWS address range. This causes the addition of a duplicate numa_memblk with a different node id and a subsequent page fault and kernel crash during boot. Fix this by making numa_fill_memblks() always available regardless of NUMA_KEEP_MEMINFO. As Dan suggested, the fix is implemented to remove numa_fill_memblks() from sparsemem.h and alos using __weak for the function. Note that the issue was initially introduced with [1]. But since phys_to_target_node() was originally used that returned the valid node 0, an additional numa_memblk was not added. Though, the node id was wrong too, a message is seen then in the logs: kernel/numa.c: pr_info_once("Unknown target node for memory at 0x%llx, assuming node 0\n", [1] commit fd49f99c1809 ("ACPI: NUMA: Add a node and memblk for each CFMWS not in SRAT") Suggested-by: Dan Williams <dan.j.williams@intel.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/all/66271b0072317_69102944c@dwillia2-xfh.jf.intel.com.notmuch/ Fixes: 8f1004679987 ("ACPI/NUMA: Apply SRAT proximity domain to entire CFMWS window") Reviewed-by: Jonathan Cameron <Jonathan.Cameron@huawei.com> Reviewed-by: Alison Schofield <alison.schofield@intel.com> Reviewed-by: Dan Williams <dan.j.williams@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Robert Richter <rrichter@amd.com> Acked-by: Borislav Petkov (AMD) <bp@alien8.de> Signed-off-by: Rafael J. ACPI: HED: Always initialize before evged stable inclusion from stable-6.6.93 commit d97c38275d12cbf21bfa7774b262976b63f4ed62 category: bugfix issue: #ICCW0G CVE: NA Signed-off-by: Li Nan <linan122@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- [ Upstream commit cccf6ee090c8c133072d5d5b52ae25f3bc907a16 ] When the HED driver is built-in, it initializes after evged because they both are at the same initcall level, so the initialization ordering depends on the Makefile order. However, this prevents RAS records coming in between the evged driver initialization and the HED driver initialization from being handled. If the number of such RAS records is above the APEI HEST error source number, the HEST resources may be exhausted, and that may affect subsequent RAS error reporting. To fix this issue, change the initcall level of HED to subsys_initcall and prevent the driver from being built as a module by changing ACPI_HED in Kconfig from "tristate" to "bool". The presence of the _CID then causes the PNP scan handler to attach to the watchdog, preventing the actual watchdog driver from binding. Address this by adding the ACPI _HIDs to the list of non-PNP devices, so that the PNP scan handler is bypassed. Note that these watchdogs can be described by multiple _HIDs for what seems to be identical hardware. This commit is not a complete list of all the possible watchdog ACPI _HIDs. The reason this happens is that, when the APU exits HW sleep, the power rails controlled by the EC will power up the TCON. The TCON has a GPIO that will be toggled at this time. The GPIO is not marked as a wakeup source, but the GPIO controller still has an unserviced interrupt. Unserviced interrupts will block entering HW sleep again. Clearing the GPIO doesn't help as the TCON continues to assert it until it's been initialized by i2c-hid. ACPI: EC: Mark the ec_sys write_support param as module_param_hw() Using write_support=1 with the ec_sys module changes the mode of the "io" debugfs file to 0600. This will cause any attempts to access it under a kernel in lockdown mode to return -EPERM, which makes the entire ec_sys module unusable. ACPI: Fix selecting wrong ACPI fwnode for the iGPU on some Dell laptops The Dell Latitude E6430 both with and without the optional NVidia dGPU has a bug in its ACPI tables which is causing Linux to assign the wrong ACPI fwnode / companion to the pci_device for the i915 iGPU. Specifically under the PCI root bridge there are these 2 ACPI Device()s : Scope (_SB.PCI0) { Device (GFX0) { Name (_ADR, 0x00020000) // _ADR: Address } ... Device (VID) { Name (_ADR, 0x00020000) // _ADR: Address ... Method (_DOS, 1, NotSerialized) // _DOS: Disable Output Switching { VDP8 = Arg0 VDP1 (One, VDP8) } Method (_DOD, 0, NotSerialized) // _DOD: Display Output Devices { ... } ... } } The non-functional GFX0 ACPI device is a problem, because this gets returned as ACPI companion-device by acpi_find_child_device() for the iGPU. This is a long standing problem and the i915 driver does use the ACPI companion for some things, but works fine without it. However since commit 63f534b8bad9 ("ACPI: PCI: Rework acpi_get_pci_dev()") acpi_get_pci_dev() relies on the physical-node pointer in the acpi_device and that is set on the wrong acpi_device because of the wrong acpi_find_child_device() return. This breaks the ACPI video code, leading to non working backlight control in some cases. Add a type.backlight flag, mark ACPI video bus devices with this and make find_child_checks() return a higher score for children with this flag set, so that it picks the right companion-device. ACPI: EC: Evaluate _REG outside the EC scope more carefully stable inclusion from stable-6.6.48 commit d2c7680250efe71fb4f557aa8cb43f3b793dfef9 category: bugfix issue: #IB7W7N CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zhangshuqi <zhangshuqi3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- commit 71bf41b8e913ec9fc91f0d39ab8fb320229ec604 upstream. Commit 60fa6ae6e6d0 ("ACPI: EC: Install address space handler at the namespace root") caused _REG methods for EC operation regions outside the EC device scope to be evaluated which on some systems leads to the evaluation of _REG methods in the scopes of device objects representing devices that are not present and not functional according to the _STA return values. Some of those device objects represent EC "alternatives" and if _REG is evaluated for their operation regions, the platform firmware may be confused and the platform may start to behave incorrectly. To avoid this problem, only evaluate _REG for EC operation regions located in the scopes of device objects representing known-to-be-present devices. For this purpose, partially revert commit 60fa6ae6e6d0 and trigger the evaluation of _REG for EC operation regions from acpi_bus_attach() for the known-valid devices. ACPI: platform-profile: Fix CFI violation when accessing sysfs files stable inclusion from stable-6.6.88 commit e5eadb652014727028fe2744774cfbd3e5da56fe category: bugfix issue: #IC6IH3 CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zyf1116 <zhouyongfei3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- commit dd4f730b557ce701a2cd4f604bf1e57667bd8b6e upstream. When an attribute group is created with sysfs_create_group(), the ->sysfs_ops() callback is set to kobj_sysfs_ops, which sets the ->show() and ->store() callbacks to kobj_attr_show() and kobj_attr_store() respectively. These functions use container_of() to get the respective callback from the passed attribute, meaning that these callbacks need to be of the same type as the callbacks in 'struct kobj_attribute'. However, ->show() and ->store() in the platform_profile driver are defined for struct device_attribute with the help of DEVICE_ATTR_RO() and DEVICE_ATTR_RW(), which results in a CFI violation when accessing platform_profile or platform_profile_choices under /sys/firmware/acpi because the types do not match: CFI failure at kobj_attr_show+0x19/0x30 (target: platform_profile_choices_show+0x0/0x140; expected type: 0x7a69590c) There is no functional issue from the type mismatch because the layout of 'struct kobj_attribute' and 'struct device_attribute' are the same, so the container_of() cast does not break anything aside from CFI. Change the type of platform_profile_choices_show() and platform_profile_{show,store}() to match the callbacks in 'struct kobj_attribute' and update the attribute variables to match, which resolves the CFI violation. ACPI: PM: Do not turn of unused power resources on the Toshiba Click Mini The CPR3 power resource on the Toshiba Click Mini toggles a GPIO which is called SISP (for SIS touchscreen power?) on/off. This CPR3 power resource is not listed in any _PR? lists, let alone in a _PR0 list for the SIS0817 touchscreen ACPI device which needs it. Before commit a1224f34d72a ("ACPI: PM: Check states of power resources during initialization") this was not an issue because since nothing referenced the CPR3 power resource its state was always ACPI_POWER_RESOURCE_STATE_UNKNOWN and power resources with this state get ignored by acpi_turn_off_unused_power_resources(). This clearly is a bug in the DSDT of this device. Add a DMI quirk to make acpi_turn_off_unused_power_resources() a no-op on this model to fix the touchscreen no longer working since kernel 5.16 . This quirk also causes 2 other power resources to not get turned off, but the _OFF method on these already was a no-op, so this makes no difference for the other 2 power resources. That results errors like: ACPI PPTT: PPTT table found, but unable to locate core XX (XX) ACPI: SPE must be homogeneous Furthermore, it fails in a common case where the node length isn't equal to the acpi_pptt_processor structure size, leaving the original bug in a modified form. Correct the regression by adjusting the loop termination conditions as suggested by the bug reporters. An additional check performed after the subtable node type is detected, validates the acpi_pptt_processor node is fully contained in the PPTT table. Repeating the check in acpi_pptt_leaf_node() is largely redundant as the node is already known to be fully contained in the table. The case where a final truncated node's parent property is accepted, but the node itself is rejected should not be considered a bug. ACPI: processor: Reorder acpi_processor_driver_init() The cpufreq policy notifier in the ACPI processor driver may as well be registered before the driver itself, which causes acpi_processor_cpufreq_init to be true (unless the notifier registration fails, which is unlikely at that point) when the ACPI CPU thermal cooling devices are registered, so the processor_get_max_state() result does not change while acpi_processor_driver_init() is running. Change the ordering in acpi_processor_driver_init() accordingly to prevent the max_state value from remaining 0 permanently for all ACPI CPU cooling devices due to setting acpi_processor_cpufreq_init too late. The behavior was desirable for guests on hypervisors such as VMWare ESXi, which by default don't have the _CST ACPI method, and set the C2 and C3 latencies to 101 and 1001 microseconds respectively via the FADT, to signify they're unsupported. Since the above change though, these virtualized deployments end up loading acpi_idle, and thus entering the default C1 C-State set by acpi_processor_get_power_info_default(); this is undesirable for a system that's communicating to the OS it doesn't want C-States (missing _CST, and invalid C2/C3 in FADT). Make acpi_processor_get_power_info_fadt() return -ENODEV in that case, so that acpi_processor_get_cstate_info() exits early and doesn't set pr->flags.power = 1. ACPI: processor: perflib: Avoid updating frequency QoS unnecessarily Modify acpi_processor_get_platform_limit() to avoid updating its frequency QoS request when the _PPC return value has not changed by comparing that value to the previous _PPC return value stored in the performance_platform_limit field of the struct acpi_processor corresponding to the given CPU. ACPI: make remove callback of ACPI driver void For bus-based driver, device removal is implemented as: 1 device_remove()-> 2 bus->remove()-> 3 driver->remove() Driver core needs no inform from callee(bus driver) about the result of remove callback. In that case, commit fc7a6209d571 ("bus: Make remove callback return void") forces bus_type::remove be void-returned. Now we have the situation that both 1 & 2 of calling chain are void-returned, so it does not make much sense for 3(driver->remove) to return non-void to its caller. So the basic idea behind this change is making remove() callback of any bus-based driver to be void-returned. This change, for itself, is for device drivers based on acpi-bus. ACPI: video: Add force_vendor quirk for Panasonic Toughbook CF-18 stable inclusion from stable-6.6.55 commit 716dae9686fe043c1c4c634a425fa0abe1a77dca category: bugfix issue: #IB7W7N CVE: NA Signed-off-by: zhangshuqi <zhangshuqi3@huawei.com> --------------------------------------- [ Upstream commit eb7b0f12e13ba99e64e3a690c2166895ed63b437 ] The Panasonic Toughbook CF-18 advertises both native and vendor backlight control interfaces. But only the vendor one actually works. acpi_video_get_backlight_type() will pick the non working native backlight by default, add a quirk to select the working vendor backlight instead. ACPI: VIOT: Initialize the correct IOMMU fwspec When setting up DMA for a PCI device, we need to initialize its iommu_fwspec with all possible alias RIDs (such as PCI bridges). To do this we use pci_for_each_dma_alias() which calls viot_pci_dev_iommu_init(). This function incorrectly initializes the fwspec of the bridge instead of the device being configured. Fix it by passing the original device as context to pci_for_each_dma_alias().
