driver core: have match() callback in struct bus_type take a const * In the match() callback, the struct device_driver * should not be changed, so change the function callback to be a const *. This is one step of many towards making the driver core safe to have struct device_driver in read-only memory. Because the match() callback is in all busses, all busses are modified to handle this properly. This does entail switching some container_of() calls to container_of_const() to properly handle the constant *. For some busses, like PCI and USB and HV, the const * is cast away in the match callback as those busses do want to modify those structures at this point in time (they have a local lock in the driver structure.) That will have to be changed in the future if they wish to have their struct device * in read-only-memory. Cc: Rafael J. ALSA: Drop explicit initialization of struct i2c_device_id::driver_data to 0 These drivers don't use the driver_data member of struct i2c_device_id, so don't explicitly initialize this member. This prepares putting driver_data in an anonymous union which requires either no initialization or named designators. But it's also a nice cleanup on its own. ALSA: pcm: Disable bottom softirqs as part of spin_lock_irq() on PREEMPT_RT [ Upstream commit 9fc4a3da9a0259a0500848b5d8657918efde176b ] snd_pcm_group_lock_irq() acquires a spinlock_t and disables interrupts via spin_lock_irq(). This also implicitly disables the handling of softirqs such as TIMER_SOFTIRQ. On PREEMPT_RT softirqs are preemptible and spin_lock_irq() does not disable them. That means a timer can be invoked during spin_lock_irq() on the same CPU. Due to synchronisations reasons local_bh_disable() has a per-CPU lock named softirq_ctrl.lock which synchronizes individual softirq against each other. syz-bot managed to trigger a lockdep report where softirq_ctrl.lock is acquired in hrtimer_cancel() in addition to hrtimer_run_softirq(). This is a possible deadlock. The softirq_ctrl.lock can not be made part of spin_lock_irq() as this would lead to too much synchronisation against individual threads on the system. To avoid the possible deadlock, softirqs must be manually disabled before the lock is acquired. Disable softirqs before the lock is acquired on PREEMPT_RT. ALSA: firewire-motu: drop EPOLLOUT from poll return values as write is not supported [ Upstream commit aea3493246c474bc917d124d6fb627663ab6bef0 ] The ALSA HwDep character device of the firewire-motu driver incorrectly returns EPOLLOUT in poll(2), even though the driver implements no operation for write(2). This misleads userspace applications to believe write() is allowed, potentially resulting in unnecessarily wakeups. This issue dates back to the driver's initial code added by a commit 71c3797779d3 ("ALSA: firewire-motu: add hwdep interface"), and persisted when POLLOUT was updated to EPOLLOUT by a commit a9a08845e9ac ('vfs: do bulk POLL* -> EPOLL* replacement("").'). ALSA: usb-audio: fix race condition to UAF in snd_usbmidi_free commit 9f2c0ac1423d5f267e7f1d1940780fc764b0fee3 upstream. The previous commit 0718a78f6a9f ("ALSA: usb-audio: Kill timer properly at removal") patched a UAF issue caused by the error timer. However, because the error timer kill added in this patch occurs after the endpoint delete, a race condition to UAF still occurs, albeit rarely. Additionally, since kill-cleanup for urb is also missing, freed memory can be accessed in interrupt context related to urb, which can cause UAF. Therefore, to prevent this, error timer and urb must be killed before freeing the heap memory. It seems we're hitting the error path in virtsnd_probe(), which triggers a virtsnd_remove() which iterates over the substreams calling cancel_work_sync() on the elapsed_period work_struct. Looking at the code, from earlier in: virtsnd_probe()->virtsnd_build_devs()->virtsnd_pcm_parse_cfg() We set snd->nsubstreams, allocate the snd->substreams, and if we then hit an error on the info allocation or something in virtsnd_ctl_query_info() fails, we will exit without having initialized the elapsed_period work_struct. When that error path unwinds we then call virtsnd_remove() which as long as the substreams array is allocated, will iterate through calling cancel_work_sync() on the uninitialized work struct hitting this warning. Takashi Iwai suggested this fix, which initializes the substreams structure right after allocation, so that if we hit the error paths we avoid trying to cleanup uninitialized data. Note: I have not yet managed to reproduce the issue myself, so this patch has had limited testing. Feedback or thoughts would be appreciated! ALSA: intel_hdmi: Fix off-by-one error in __hdmi_lpe_audio_probe() commit 8cbe564974248ee980562be02f2b1912769562c7 upstream. In __hdmi_lpe_audio_probe(), strscpy() is incorrectly called with the length of the source string (excluding the NUL terminator) rather than the size of the destination buffer. This results in one character less being copied from 'card->shortname' to 'pcm->name'. Use the destination buffer size instead to ensure the card name is copied correctly. sound: Make CONFIG_SND depend on INDIRECT_IOMEM instead of UML When building for the UM arch and neither INDIRECT_IOMEM=y, nor HAS_IOMEM=y is selected, it will fall back to the implementations from asm-generic/io.h for IO memcpy. But these fall-back functions just do a memcpy. So, instead of depending on UML, add dependency on 'HAS_IOMEM || INDIRECT_IOMEM'.
