tools arch uapi: Copy missing unistd.h headers for arc, hexagon and riscv Since those were introduced in: c8ce48f06503 ("asm-generic: Make time32 syscall numbers optional") But when the asm-generic/unistd.h was sync'ed with tools/ in: 1a787fc5ba18 ("tools headers uapi: Sync copy of asm-generic/unistd.h with the kernel sources") I forgot to copy the files for the architectures that define __ARCH_WANT_TIME32_SYSCALLS, so the perf build was breaking there, as reported by Vineet Gupta for the ARC architecture. After updating my ARC container to use the glibc based toolchain + cross building libnuma, zlib and elfutils, I finally managed to reproduce the problem and verify that this now is fixed and will not regress as will be tested before each pull req sent upstream. objtool/LoongArch: Mark special atomic instruction as INSN_BUG type mainline inclusion from mainline-v6.17-rc7 category: bugfix When compiling with LLVM and CONFIG_RUST is set, there exists the following objtool warning: rust/compiler_builtins.o: warning: objtool: __rust__unordsf2(): unexpected end of section .text.unlikely. objdump shows that the end of section .text.unlikely is an atomic instruction: amswap.w $zero, $ra, $zero According to the LoongArch Reference Manual, if the amswap.w atomic memory access instruction has the same register number as rd and rj, the execution will trigger an Instruction Non-defined Exception, so mark the above instruction as INSN_BUG type to fix the warning. perf tools: Copy uapi/asm/perf_regs.h from the kernel for MIPS To allow the build to complete on older systems, where those files are either not uptodate, lacking some recent additions or not present at all. And check if the copy drifts from the kernel. This commit is similar with commit 12f020338a2c ("tools: Copy uapi/asm/perf_regs.h from the kernel") With this commit, we can avoid the following build error in any case: tools/perf/arch/mips/include/perf_regs.h:7:10: fatal error: asm/perf_regs.h: No such file or directory #include <asm/perf_regs.h> ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ compilation terminated. parisc: Drop the HP-UX ENOSYM and EREMOTERELEASE error codes commit e5f3e299a2b1e9c3ece24a38adfc089aef307e8a upstream. Those return codes are only defined for the parisc architecture and are leftovers from when we wanted to be HP-UX compatible. They are not returned by any Linux kernel syscall but do trigger problems with the glibc strerrorname_np() and strerror() functions as reported in glibc issue #31080. There is no need to keep them, so simply remove them. asm-generic: partially revert "Unify uapi bitsperlong.h for arm64, riscv and loongarch" Unifying the asm-generic headers across 32-bit and 64-bit architectures based on the compiler provided macros was a good idea and appears to work with all user space, but it caused a regression when building old kernels on systems that have the new headers installed in /usr/include, as this combination trips an inconsistency in the kernel's own tools/include headers that are a mix of userspace and kernel-internal headers. This affects kernel builds on arm64, riscv64 and loongarch64 systems that might end up using the "#define __BITS_PER_LONG 32" default from the old tools headers. Backporting the commit into stable kernels would address this, but it would still break building kernels without that backport, and waste time for developers trying to understand the problem. arm64 build machines are rather common, and on riscv64 this can also happen in practice, but loongarch64 is probably new enough to not be used much for building old kernels, so only revert the bits for arm64 and riscv.
