selftests/bpf: Fix potential premature unload in bpf_testmod [ Upstream commit d177c1be06ce28aa8c8710ac55be1b5ad3f314c6 ] It is possible for bpf_kfunc_call_test_release() to be called from bpf_map_free_deferred() when bpf_testmod is already unloaded and perf_test_stuct.cnt which it tries to decrease is no longer in memory. This patch tries to fix the issue by waiting for all references to be dropped in bpf_testmod_exit(). bpf: Remove mark_precise_scalar_ids() [ Upstream commit 842edb5507a1038e009d27e69d13b94b6f085763 ] Function mark_precise_scalar_ids() is superseded by bt_sync_linked_regs() and equal scalars tracking in jump history. mark_precise_scalar_ids() propagates precision over registers sharing same ID on parent/child state boundaries, while jump history records allow bt_sync_linked_regs() to propagate same information with instruction level granularity, which is strictly more precise. This commit removes mark_precise_scalar_ids() and updates test cases in progs/verifier_scalar_ids to reflect new verifier behavior. The tests are updated in the following manner: - mark_precise_scalar_ids() propagated precision regardless of presence of conditional jumps, while new jump history based logic only kicks in when conditional jumps are present. Hence test cases are augmented with conditional jumps to still trigger precision propagation. - As equal scalars tracking no longer relies on parent/child state boundaries some test cases are no longer interesting, such test cases are removed, namely: - precision_same_state and precision_cross_state are superseded by linked_regs_bpf_k; - precision_same_state_broken_link and equal_scalars_broken_link are superseded by linked_regs_broken_link. selftests/bpf: fexit_sleep: Fix stack allocation for arm64 [ Upstream commit e1ef78dce9b7b0fa7f9d88bb3554441d74d33b34 ] On ARM64 the stack pointer should be aligned at a 16 byte boundary or the SPAlignmentFault can occur. The fexit_sleep selftest allocates the stack for the child process as a character array, this is not guaranteed to be aligned at 16 bytes. Because of the SPAlignmentFault, the child process is killed before it can do the nanosleep call and hence fentry_cnt remains as 0. This causes the main thread to hang on the following line: while (READ_ONCE(fexit_skel->bss->fentry_cnt) != 2); Fix this by allocating the stack using mmap() as described in the example in the man page of clone(). selftests/bpf: Add testcase for bpf_task_under_cgroup test_progs: Tests new kfunc bpf_task_under_cgroup(). selftests/bpf: Add netlink helper library commit 51f1892b5289f0c09745d3bedb36493555d6d90c upstream. Add a minimal netlink helper library for the BPF selftests. This has been taken and cut down and cleaned up from iproute2. This covers basics such as netdevice creation which we need for BPF selftests / BPF CI given iproute2 package cannot cover it yet. Stanislav Fomichev suggested that this could be replaced in future by ynl tool generated C code once it has RTNL support to create devices. Once we get to this point the BPF CI would also need to add libmnl. If no further extensions are needed, a second option could be that we remove this code again once iproute2 package has support. selftests, bpf: Make docs tests fail more reliably Previously, if rst2man caught errors, then these would be ignored and the output file would be written anyway. This would allow developers to introduce regressions in the docs comments in the BPF headers. Additionally, even if you instruct rst2man to fail out, it will still write out to the destination target file, so if you ran the tests twice in a row it would always pass. Use a temporary file for the initial run to ensure that if rst2man fails out under "--strict" mode, subsequent runs will not automatically pass. selftests/bpf: Unprivileged tests for test_loader.c Extends test_loader.c:test_loader__run_subtests() by allowing to execute tests in unprivileged mode, similar to test_verifier.c. Adds the following new attributes controlling test_loader behavior: __msg_unpriv __success_unpriv __failure_unpriv * If any of these attributes is present the test would be loaded in unprivileged mode. * If only "privileged" attributes are present the test would be loaded only in privileged mode. * If both "privileged" and "unprivileged" attributes are present the test would be loaded in both modes. * If test has to be executed in both modes, __msg(text) is specified and __msg_unpriv is not specified the behavior is the same as if __msg_unpriv(text) is specified. * For test filtering purposes the name of the program loaded in unprivileged mode is derived from the usual program name by adding `@unpriv' suffix. Also adds attribute '__description'. This attribute specifies text to be used instead of a program name for display and filtering purposes. bpf: selftests: Add helpers to directly use the capget and capset syscall After upgrading to the newer libcap (>= 2.60), the libcap commit aca076443591 ("Make cap_t operations thread safe.") added a "__u8 mutex;" to the "struct _cap_struct". It caused a few byte shift that breaks the assumption made in the "struct libcap" definition in test_verifier.c. The bpf selftest usage only needs to enable and disable the effective caps of the running task. It is easier to directly syscall the capget and capset instead. It can also remove the libcap library dependency. The cap_helpers.{c,h} is added. One __u64 is used for all CAP_* bits instead of two __u32. selftests/bpf: Add simple strscpy() implementation commit 63c49efc987afefc6b9bb7de083eb8748e0b1789 upstream. Replace bpf_strlcpy() in bpf_util.h with a sized_strscpy(), which is a simplified sized_strscpy() from the kernel (lib/string.c [1]). It: * takes a count (destination size) parameter * guarantees NULL-termination * returns the number of characters copied or -E2BIG Re-define strscpy macro similar to in-kernel implementation [2]: allow the count parameter to be optional. Add #ifdef-s to tools/include/linux/args.h, as they may be defined in other system headers (for example, __CONCAT in sys/cdefs.h). selftests/bpf: Disassembler tests for verifier.c:convert_ctx_access() Function verifier.c:convert_ctx_access() applies some rewrites to BPF instructions that read or write BPF program context. This commit adds machinery to allow test cases that inspect BPF program after these rewrites are applied. The disassembly of each program is compared with the pattern specified in the test case. Kernel code for disassembly is reused (as is in the bpftool). selftests/bpf: Use libbpf 1.0 API mode instead of RLIMIT_MEMLOCK We have switched to memcg-based memory accouting and thus the rlimit is not needed any more. LIBBPF_STRICT_AUTO_RLIMIT_MEMLOCK was introduced in libbpf for backward compatibility, so we can use it instead now. After this change, the header tools/testing/selftests/bpf/bpf_rlimit.h can be removed. This patch also removes the useless header sys/resource.h from many files in tools/testing/selftests/bpf/. bpf: selftests: Add defrag selftests These selftests tests 2 major scenarios: the BPF based defragmentation can successfully be done and that packet pointers are invalidated after calls to the kfunc. The logic is similar for both ipv4 and ipv6. In the first scenario, we create a UDP client and UDP echo server. The the server side is fairly straightforward: we attach the prog and simply echo back the message. The on the client side, we send fragmented packets to and expect the reassembled message back from the server. selftests/bpf: use canonical ftrace path The canonical location for the tracefs filesystem is at /sys/kernel/tracing. But, from Documentation/trace/ftrace.rst: Before 4.1, all ftrace tracing control files were within the debugfs file system, which is typically located at /sys/kernel/debug/tracing. For backward compatibility, when mounting the debugfs file system, the tracefs file system will be automatically mounted at: /sys/kernel/debug/tracing Many tests in the bpf selftest code still refer to this older debugfs path, so let's update them to avoid confusion. selftests/bpf: Add --json-summary option to test_progs Currently, test_progs outputs all stdout/stderr as it runs, and when it is done, prints a summary. It is non-trivial for tooling to parse that output and extract meaningful information from it. Stanislav Fomichev suggested that this could be replaced in future by ynl tool generated C code once it has RTNL support to create devices. selftests/bpf: Add basic USDT selftests Add semaphore-based USDT to test_progs itself and write basic tests to valicate both auto-attachment and manual attachment logic, as well as BPF-side functionality. Also add subtests to validate that libbpf properly deduplicates USDT specs and handles spec overflow situations correctly, as well as proper "rollback" of partially-attached multi-spec USDT. BPF-side of selftest intentionally consists of two files to validate that usdt.bpf.h header can be included from multiple source code files that are subsequently linked into final BPF object file without causing any symbol duplication or other issues. We are validating that __weak maps and bpf_usdt_xxx() API functions defined in usdt.bpf.h do work as intended. USDT selftests utilize sys/sdt.h header that on Ubuntu systems comes from systemtap-sdt-devel package. But to simplify everyone's life, including CI but especially casual contributors to bpf/bpf-next that are trying to build selftests, I've checked in sys/sdt.h header from [0] directly. This way it will work on all architectures and distros without having to figure it out for every relevant combination and adding any extra implicit package dependencies. selftests/bpf: Better clean up for runqslower in test_bpftool_build.sh The script test_bpftool_build.sh attempts to build bpftool in the various supported ways, to make sure nothing breaks. One of those ways is to run "make tools/bpf" from the root of the kernel repository. This command builds bpftool, along with the other tools under tools/bpf, and runqslower in particular. After running the command and upon a successful bpftool build, the script attempts to cleanup the generated objects. However, after building with this target and in the case of runqslower, the files are not cleaned up as expected. This is because the "tools/bpf" target sets $(OUTPUT) to .../tools/bpf/runqslower/ when building the tool, causing the object files to be placed directly under the runqslower directory. But when running "cd tools/bpf; make clean", the value for $(OUTPUT) is set to ".output" (relative to the runqslower directory) by runqslower's Makefile, and this is where the Makefile looks for files to clean up. We cannot easily fix in the root Makefile (where "tools/bpf" is defined) or in tools/scripts/Makefile.include (setting $(OUTPUT)), where changing the way the output variables are passed would likely have consequences elsewhere. We could change runqslower's Makefile to build in the repository instead of in a dedicated ".output/", but doing so just to accommodate a test script doesn't sound great. Instead, let's just make sure that we clean up runqslower properly by adding the correct command to the script. This will attempt to clean runqslower twice: the first try with command "cd tools/bpf; make clean" will search for tools/bpf/runqslower/.output and fail to clean it (but will still clean the other tools, in particular bpftool), the second one (added in this commit) sets the $(OUTPUT) variable like for building with the "tool/bpf" target and should succeed. selftests/bpf: Fix C++ compile error from missing _Bool type [ Upstream commit aa95073fd290b5b3e45f067fa22bb25e59e1ff7c ] While building, bpftool makes a skeleton from test_core_extern.c, which itself includes <stdbool.h> and uses the 'bool' type. However, the skeleton test_core_extern.skel.h generated *does not* include <stdbool.h> or use the 'bool' type, instead using the C-only '_Bool' type. Compiling test_cpp.cpp with g++ 12.3 for mips64el/musl-libc then fails with error: In file included from test_cpp.cpp:9: test_core_extern.skel.h:45:17: error: '_Bool' does not name a type 45 | _Bool CONFIG_BOOL; | ^~~~~ This was likely missed previously because glibc uses a GNU extension for <stdbool.h> with C++ (#define _Bool bool), not supported by musl libc. Normally, a C fragment would include <stdbool.h> and use the 'bool' type, and thus cleanly work after import by C++. The ideal fix would be for 'bpftool gen skeleton' to output the correct type/include supporting C++, but in the meantime add a conditional define as above. selftests/bpf: Store BPF object files with .bpf.o extension BPF object files are, in a way, the final artifact produced as part of the ahead-of-time compilation process. That makes them somewhat special compared to "regular" object files, which are a intermediate build artifacts that can typically be removed safely. As such, it can make sense to name them differently to make it easier to spot this difference at a glance. Among others, libbpf-bootstrap [0] has established the extension .bpf.o for BPF object files. It seems reasonable to follow this example and establish the same denomination for selftest build artifacts. To that end, this change adjusts the corresponding part of the build system and the test programs loading BPF object files to work with .bpf.o files. selftests/bpf: Add notion of auxiliary programs for test_loader In order to express test cases that use bpf_tail_call() intrinsic it is necessary to have several programs to be loaded at a time. This commit adds __auxiliary annotation to the set of annotations supported by test_loader.c. Programs marked as auxiliary are always loaded but are not treated as a separate test. For example, in Cilium: struct egress_gw_policy_key { struct bpf_lpm_trie_key lpm_key; __u32 saddr; __u32 daddr; }; While direct references to the "data" member haven't been found, there are static initializers what include the final member. For example, the "{}" here: struct egress_gw_policy_key in_key = { .lpm_key = { 32 + 24, {} }, .saddr = CLIENT_IP, .daddr = EXTERNAL_SVC_IP & 0Xffffff, }; To avoid the build time and run time warnings seen with a 0-sized trailing array for struct bpf_lpm_trie_key, introduce a new struct that correctly uses a flexible array for the trailing bytes, struct bpf_lpm_trie_key_u8. As part of this, include the "header" portion (which is just the "prefixlen" member), so it can be used by anything building a bpf_lpr_trie_key that has trailing members that aren't a u8 flexible array (like the self-test[1]), which is named struct bpf_lpm_trie_key_hdr. Unfortunately, C++ refuses to parse the __struct_group() helper, so it is not possible to define struct bpf_lpm_trie_key_hdr directly in struct bpf_lpm_trie_key_u8, so we must open-code the union directly. Adjust the kernel code to use struct bpf_lpm_trie_key_u8 through-out, and for the selftest to use struct bpf_lpm_trie_key_hdr. Add a comment to the UAPI header directing folks to the two new options. selftests/bpf: tests for using dynptrs to parse skb and xdp buffers Test skb and xdp dynptr functionality in the following ways: 1) progs/test_cls_redirect_dynptr.c * Rewrite "progs/test_cls_redirect.c" test to use dynptrs to parse skb data * This is a great example of how dynptrs can be used to simplify a lot of the parsing logic for non-statically known values. When measuring the user + system time between the original version vs. using dynptrs, and averaging the time for 10 runs (using "time ./test_progs -t cls_redirect"): original version: 0.092 sec with dynptrs: 0.078 sec 2) progs/test_xdp_dynptr.c * Rewrite "progs/test_xdp.c" test to use dynptrs to parse xdp data When measuring the user + system time between the original version vs. using dynptrs, and averaging the time for 10 runs (using "time ./test_progs -t xdp_attach"): original version: 0.118 sec with dynptrs: 0.094 sec 3) progs/test_l4lb_noinline_dynptr.c * Rewrite "progs/test_l4lb_noinline.c" test to use dynptrs to parse skb data When measuring the user + system time between the original version vs. using dynptrs, and averaging the time for 10 runs (using "time ./test_progs -t l4lb_all"): original version: 0.062 sec with dynptrs: 0.081 sec For number of processed verifier instructions: original version: 6268 insns with dynptrs: 2588 insns 4) progs/test_parse_tcp_hdr_opt_dynptr.c * Add sample code for parsing tcp hdr opt lookup using dynptrs. This logic is lifted from a real-world use case of packet parsing in katran [0], a layer 4 load balancer. The original version "progs/test_parse_tcp_hdr_opt.c" (not using dynptrs) is included here as well, for comparison. When measuring the user + system time between the original version vs. using dynptrs, and averaging the time for 10 runs (using "time ./test_progs -t parse_tcp_hdr_opt"): original version: 0.031 sec with dynptrs: 0.045 sec 5) progs/dynptr_success.c * Add test case "test_skb_readonly" for testing attempts at writes on a prog type with read-only skb ctx. * Add "test_dynptr_skb_data" for testing that bpf_dynptr_data isn't supported for skb progs. 6) progs/dynptr_fail.c * Add test cases "skb_invalid_data_slice{1,2,3,4}" and "xdp_invalid_data_slice{1,2}" for testing that helpers that modify the underlying packet buffer automatically invalidate the associated data slice. * Add test cases "skb_invalid_ctx" and "xdp_invalid_ctx" for testing that prog types that do not support bpf_dynptr_from_skb/xdp don't have access to the API. * Add test case "dynptr_slice_var_len{1,2}" for testing that variable-sized len can't be passed in to bpf_dynptr_slice * Add test case "skb_invalid_slice_write" for testing that writes to a read-only data slice are rejected by the verifier. * Add test case "data_slice_out_of_bounds_skb" for testing that writes to an area outside the slice are rejected. * Add test case "invalid_slice_rdwr_rdonly" for testing that prog types that don't allow writes to packet data don't accept any calls to bpf_dynptr_slice_rdwr. selftests/bpf: add a test case for sock_ops perf-event notification This patch provides a tcp_bpf based eBPF sample. The test - ncat(1) as the TCP client program to connect() to a port with the intention of triggerring SYN retransmissions: we first install an iptables DROP rule to make sure ncat SYNs are resent (instead of aborting instantly after a TCP RST) - has a bpf kernel module that sends a perf-event notification for each TCP retransmit, and also tracks the number of such notifications sent in the global_map The test passes when the number of event notifications intercepted in user-space matches the value in the global_map. bpf/selftests: Fix test_tcpnotify_user [ Upstream commit c80d79720647ed77ebc0198abd5a0807efdaff0b ] Based on a bisect, it appears that commit 7ee988770326 ("timers: Implement the hierarchical pull model") has somehow inadvertently broken BPF selftest test_tcpnotify_user. The error that is being generated by this test is as follows: FAILED: Wrong stats Expected 10 calls, got 8 It looks like the change allows timer functions to be run on CPUs different from the one they are armed on. The test had pinned itself to CPU 0, and in the past the retransmit attempts also occurred on CPU 0. The test had set the max_entries attribute for BPF_MAP_TYPE_PERF_EVENT_ARRAY to 2 and was calling bpf_perf_event_output() with BPF_F_CURRENT_CPU, so the entry was likely to be in range. With the change to allow timers to run on other CPUs, the current CPU tasked with performing the retransmit might be bumped and in turn fall out of range, as the event will be filtered out via __bpf_perf_event_output() using: if (unlikely(index >= array->map.max_entries)) return -E2BIG; A possible change would be to explicitly set the max_entries attribute for perf_event_map in test_tcpnotify_kern.c to a value that's at least as large as the number of CPUs. As it turns out however, if the field is left unset, then the libbpf will determine the number of CPUs available on the underlying system and update the max_entries attribute accordingly in map_set_def_max_entries(). A further problem with the test is that it has a thread that continues running up until the program exits. The main thread cleans up some LIBBPF data structures, while the other thread continues to use them, which inevitably will trigger a SIGSEGV. This can be dealt with by telling the thread to run for as long as necessary and doing a pthread_join on it before exiting the program. Finally, I don't think binding the process to CPU 0 is meaningful for this test any more, so get rid of that. selftests/bpf: use canonical ftrace path The canonical location for the tracefs filesystem is at /sys/kernel/tracing. But, from Documentation/trace/ftrace.rst: Before 4.1, all ftrace tracing control files were within the debugfs file system, which is typically located at /sys/kernel/debug/tracing. For backward compatibility, when mounting the debugfs file system, the tracefs file system will be automatically mounted at: /sys/kernel/debug/tracing Many tests in the bpf selftest code still refer to this older debugfs path, so let's update them to avoid confusion. selftests/bpf: introduce XDP compliance test tool Introduce xdp_features tool in order to test XDP features supported by the NIC and match them against advertised ones. In order to test supported/advertised XDP features, xdp_features must run on the Device Under Test (DUT) and on a Tester device. xdp_features opens a control TCP channel between DUT and Tester devices to send control commands from Tester to the DUT and a UDP data channel where the Tester sends UDP 'echo' packets and the DUT is expected to reply back with the same packet. DUT installs multiple XDP programs on the NIC to test XDP capabilities and reports back to the Tester some XDP stats. selftests/bpf: Store BPF object files with .bpf.o extension BPF object files are, in a way, the final artifact produced as part of the ahead-of-time compilation process. It seems reasonable to follow this example and establish the same denomination for selftest build artifacts. selftests/bpf: Fix arg parsing in veristat, test_progs [ Upstream commit 03bfcda1fbc37ef34aa21d2b9e09138335afc6ee ] Current code parses arguments with strtok_r() using a construct like char *state = NULL; while ((next = strtok_r(state ? NULL : input, ",", &state))) { ... } where logic assumes the 'state' var can distinguish between first and subsequent strtok_r() calls, and adjusts parameters accordingly. However, 'state' is strictly internal context for strtok_r() and no such assumptions are supported in the man page. Moreover, the exact behaviour of 'state' depends on the libc implementation, making the above code fragile. Indeed, invoking "./test_progs -t <test_name>" on mips64el/musl will hang, with the above code in an infinite loop. Similarly, we see strange behaviour running 'veristat' on mips64el/musl: $ ./veristat -e file,prog,verdict,insns -C two-ok add-failure Can't specify more than 9 stats Rewrite code using a counter to distinguish between strtok_r() calls. selftests/bpf: Add urandom_read shared lib and USDTs Extend urandom_read helper binary to include USDTs of 4 combinations: semaphore/semaphoreless (refcounted and non-refcounted) and based in executable or shared library. We also extend urandom_read with ability to report it's own PID to parent process and wait for parent process to ready itself up for tracing urandom_read. We utilize popen() and underlying pipe properties for proper signaling. Once urandom_read is ready, we add few tests to validate that libbpf's USDT attachment handles all the above combinations of semaphore (or lack of it) and static or shared library USDTs. Also, we validate that libbpf handles shared libraries both with PID filter and without one (i.e., -1 for PID argument). Having the shared library case tested with and without PID is important because internal logic differs on kernels that don't support BPF cookies. On such older kernels, attaching to USDTs in shared libraries without specifying concrete PID doesn't work in principle, because it's impossible to determine shared library's load address to derive absolute IPs for uprobe attachments. Without absolute IPs, it's impossible to perform correct look up of USDT spec based on uprobe's absolute IP (the only kind available from BPF at runtime). This is not the problem on newer kernels with BPF cookie as we don't need IP-to-ID lookup because BPF cookie value *is* spec ID. So having those two situations as separate subtests is good because libbpf CI is able to test latest selftests against old kernels (e.g., 4.9 and 5.5), so we'll be able to disable PID-less shared lib attachment for old kernels, but will still leave PID-specific one enabled to validate this legacy logic is working correctly. So having those two situations as separate subtests is good because libbpf CI is able to test latest selftests against old kernels (e.g., 4.9 and 5.5), so we'll be able to disable PID-less shared lib attachment for old kernels, but will still leave PID-specific one enabled to validate this legacy logic is working correctly. selftests/bpf: Add test for bpf_verify_pkcs7_signature() kfunc Perform several tests to ensure the correct implementation of the bpf_verify_pkcs7_signature() kfunc. Do the tests with data signed with a generated testing key (by using sign-file from scripts/) and with the tcp_bic.ko kernel module if it is found in the system. The test does not fail if tcp_bic.ko is not found. First, perform an unsuccessful signature verification without data. Second, perform a successful signature verification with the session keyring and a new one created for testing. Then, ensure that permission and validation checks are done properly on the keyring provided to bpf_verify_pkcs7_signature(), despite those checks were deferred at the time the keyring was retrieved with bpf_lookup_user_key(). The tests expect to encounter an error if the Search permission is removed from the keyring, or the keyring is expired. Finally, perform a successful and unsuccessful signature verification with the keyrings with pre-determined IDs (the last test fails because the key is not in the platform keyring). The test is currently in the deny list for s390x (JIT does not support calling kernel function). selftests/bpf: add ability to filter programs in veristat Add -f (--filter) argument which accepts glob-based filters for narrowing down what BPF object files and programs within them should be processed by veristat. This filtering applies both to comparison and main (verification) mode. Filter can be of two forms: - file (object) filter: 'strobemeta*'; in this case all the programs within matching files are implicitly allowed (or denied, depending if it's positive or negative rule, see below); - file and prog filter: 'strobemeta*/*unroll*' will further filter programs within matching files to only allow those program names that match '*unroll*' glob. As mentioned, filters can be positive (allowlisting) and negative (denylisting). Negative filters should start with '!': '!strobemeta*' will deny any filename which basename starts with "strobemeta". Further, one extra special syntax is supported to allow more convenient use in practice. Instead of specifying rule on the command line, veristat allows to specify file that contains rules, both positive and negative, one line per one filter. This is achieved with -f @<filepath> use, where <filepath> points to a text file containing rules (negative and positive rules can be mixed). For convenience empty lines and lines starting with '#' are ignored. This feature is useful to have some pre-canned list of object files and program names that are tested repeatedly, allowing to check in a list of rules and quickly specify them on the command line. As a demonstration (and a short cut for nearest future), create a small list of "interesting" BPF object files from selftests/bpf and commit it as veristat.cfg. It currently includes 73 programs, most of which are the most complex and largest BPF programs in selftests, as judged by total verified instruction count and verifier states total. If there is overlap between positive or negative filters, negative filter takes precedence (denylisting is stronger than allowlisting). If no allow filter is specified, veristat implicitly assumes '*/*' rule. If no deny rule is specified, veristat (logically) assumes no negative filters. Also note that -f (just like -e and -s) can be specified multiple times and their effect is cumulative. selftests/bpf: test bpf flow dissection Adds a test that sends different types of packets over multiple tunnels and verifies that valid packets are dissected correctly. To do so, a tc-flower rule is added to drop packets on UDP src port 9, and packets are sent from ports 8, 9, and 10. Only the packets on port 9 should be dropped. selftests/bpf: introduce XDP compliance test tool Introduce xdp_features tool in order to test XDP features supported by the NIC and match them against advertised ones. Revert "selftests/bpf: Implement get_hw_ring_size function to retrieve current and max interface size" This reverts commit c8c590f07ad7ffaa6ef11e90b81202212077497b which is commit 90a695c3d31e1c9f0adb8c4c80028ed4ea7ed5ab upstream. Commit c8c590f07ad7 ("selftests/bpf: Implement get_hw_ring_size function to retrieve current and max interface size") will cause the following bpf selftests compilation error in the 6.6 stable branch, and it is not the Stable-dep-of of commit 103c0431c7fb ("selftests/bpf: Drop unneeded error.h includes"). selftests/bpf: xdp_hw_metadata track more timestamps To correlate the hardware RX timestamp with something, add tracking of two software timestamps both clock source CLOCK_TAI (see description in man clock_gettime(2)). XDP metadata is extended with xdp_timestamp for capturing when XDP received the packet. Populated with BPF helper bpf_ktime_get_tai_ns(). I could not find a BPF helper for getting CLOCK_REALTIME, which would have been preferred. In userspace when AF_XDP sees the packet another software timestamp is recorded via clock_gettime() also clock source CLOCK_TAI. Example output shortly after loading igc driver: poll: 1 (0) skip=1 fail=0 redir=2 xsk_ring_cons__peek: 1 0x12557a8: rx_desc[1]->addr=100000000009000 addr=9100 comp_addr=9000 rx_hash: 0x82A96531 with RSS type:0x1 rx_timestamp: 1681740540304898909 (sec:1681740540.3049) XDP RX-time: 1681740577304958316 (sec:1681740577.3050) delta sec:37.0001 (37000059.407 usec) AF_XDP time: 1681740577305051315 (sec:1681740577.3051) delta sec:0.0001 (92.999 usec) 0x12557a8: complete idx=9 addr=9000 The first observation is that the 37 sec difference between RX HW vs XDP timestamps, which indicate hardware is likely clock source CLOCK_REALTIME, because (as of this writing) CLOCK_TAI is initialised with a 37 sec offset. The 93 usec (microsec) difference between XDP vs AF_XDP userspace is the userspace wakeup time. On this hardware it was caused by CPU idle sleep states, which can be reduced by tuning /dev/cpu_dma_latency. selftests/bpf: Store BPF object files with .bpf.o extension BPF object files are, in a way, the final artifact produced as part of the ahead-of-time compilation process. If run in client mode (the default), it will add a map entry keyed by the target IP address; this map will store RTT measurements, current sequence number etc. Finally in client mode the ping command is executed, and the xdping BPF program will use the last ICMP reply, reformulate it as an ICMP request with the next sequence number and XDP_TX it. After the reply to that request is received we can measure RTT and repeat until the desired number of measurements is made. This is why the sequence numbers in the normal ping are 1, 2, 3 and 8. We XDP_TX a modified version of ICMP reply 4 and keep doing this until we get the 4 replies we need; hence the networking stack only sees reply 8, where we have XDP_PASSed it upstream since we are done. In server mode (-s), xdping simply takes ICMP requests and replies to them in XDP rather than passing the request up to the networking stack. No map entry is required. xdping can be run in native XDP mode (the default, or specified via -N) or in skb mode (-S). A test program test_xdping.sh exercises some of these options. Note that native XDP does not seem to XDP_TX for veths, hence -N is not tested. Looking at the code, it looks like XDP_TX is supported so I'm not sure if that's expected. Running xdping in native mode for ixgbe as both client and server works fine. Changes since v4 - close fds on cleanup (Song Liu) Changes since v3 - fixed seq to be __be16 (Song Liu) - fixed fd checks in xdping.c (Song Liu) Changes since v2 - updated commit message to explain why seq number of last ICMP reply is 8 not 4 (Song Liu) - updated types of seq number, raddr and eliminated csum variable in xdpclient/xdpserver functions as it was not needed (Song Liu) - added XDPING_DEFAULT_COUNT definition and usage specification of default/max counts (Song Liu) Changes since v1 - moved from RFC to PATCH - removed unused variable in ipv4_csum() (Song Liu) - refactored ICMP checks into icmp_check() function called by client and server programs and reworked client and server programs due to lack of shared code (Song Liu) - added checks to ensure that SKB and native mode are not requested together (Song Liu) Signed-off-by: Alan Maguire <alan.maguire@oracle.com> Acked-by: Song Liu <songliubraving@fb.com> Signed-off-by: Alexei Starovoitov <ast@kernel.org> | 7 年前 | |

selftests/xsk: add xdp populate metadata test Add a new test in copy-mode for testing the copying of metadata from the buffer in kernel-space to user-space. This is accomplished by adding a new XDP program and using the bss map to store a counter that is written to the metadata field. This counter is incremented for every packet so that the number becomes unique and should be the same as the payload. It is store in the bss so the value can be reset between runs. The XDP program populates the metadata and the userspace program checks the value stored in the metadata field against the payload using the new is_metadata_correct() function. General instructions on running selftests can be found in

============= BPF CI System
BPF employs a continuous integration (CI) system to check patch submission in an
automated fashion. The system runs selftests for each patch in a series. Results
are propagated to patchwork, where failures are highlighted similar to
violations of other checks (such as additional warnings being emitted or a
scripts/checkpatch.pl reported deficiency):
https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/netdevbpf/list/?delegate=121173
The CI system executes tests on multiple architectures. It uses a kernel
configuration derived from both the generic and architecture specific config
file fragments below tools/testing/selftests/bpf/ (e.g., config and
config.x86_64).
Denylisting Tests
It is possible for some architectures to not have support for all BPF features.
In such a case tests in CI may fail. An example of such a shortcoming is BPF
trampoline support on IBM's s390x architecture. For cases like this, an in-tree
deny list file, located at tools/testing/selftests/bpf/DENYLIST.<arch>, can
be used to prevent the test from running on such an architecture.
In addition to that, the generic tools/testing/selftests/bpf/DENYLIST is
honored on every architecture running tests.
These files are organized in three columns. The first column lists the test in
question. This can be the name of a test suite or of an individual test. The
remaining two columns provide additional meta data that helps identify and
classify the entry: column two is a copy and paste of the error being reported
when running the test in the setting in question. The third column, if
available, summarizes the underlying problem. A value of trampoline, for
example, indicates that lack of trampoline support is causing the test to fail.
This last entry helps identify tests that can be re-enabled once such support is
added.
========================= Running Selftests in a VM
It's now possible to run the selftests using tools/testing/selftests/bpf/vmtest.sh.
The script tries to ensure that the tests are run with the same environment as they
would be run post-submit in the CI used by the Maintainers, with the exception
that deny lists are not automatically honored.
This script uses the in-tree kernel configuration and downloads a VM userspace
image from the system used by the CI. It builds the kernel (without overwriting
your existing Kconfig), recompiles the bpf selftests, runs them (by default
tools/testing/selftests/bpf/test_progs) and saves the resulting output (by
default in ~/.bpf_selftests).
Script dependencies:
- clang (preferably built from sources, https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project);
- pahole (preferably built from sources, https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/devel/pahole/pahole.git/);
- qemu;
- docutils (for
rst2man); - libcap-devel.
For more information about using the script, run:
.. code-block:: console
$ tools/testing/selftests/bpf/vmtest.sh -h
In case of linker errors when running selftests, try using static linking:
.. code-block:: console
$ LDLIBS=-static vmtest.sh
.. note:: Some distros may not support static linking.
.. note:: The script uses pahole and clang based on host environment setting.
If you want to change pahole and llvm, you can change PATH environment
variable in the beginning of script.
.. note:: The script currently only supports x86_64 and s390x architectures.
Additional information about selftest failures are documented here.
profiler[23] test failures with clang/llvm <12.0.0
With clang/llvm <12.0.0, the profiler[23] test may fail. The symptom looks like
.. code-block:: c
// r9 is a pointer to map_value // r7 is a scalar 17: bf 96 00 00 00 00 00 00 r6 = r9 18: 0f 76 00 00 00 00 00 00 r6 += r7 math between map_value pointer and register with unbounded min value is not allowed
// the instructions below will not be seen in the verifier log 19: a5 07 01 00 01 01 00 00 if r7 < 257 goto +1 20: bf 96 00 00 00 00 00 00 r6 = r9 // r6 is used here
The verifier will reject such code with above error.
At insn 18 the r7 is indeed unbounded. The later insn 19 checks the bounds and
the insn 20 undoes map_value addition. It is currently impossible for the
verifier to understand such speculative pointer arithmetic.
Hence this patch__ addresses it on the compiler side. It was committed on llvm 12.

bpf_iter test failures with clang/llvm 10.0.0
With clang/llvm 10.0.0, the following two bpf_iter tests failed:
bpf_iter/ipv6_routebpf_iter/netlink
The symptom for bpf_iter/ipv6_route looks like
.. code-block:: c
2: (79) r8 = *(u64 *)(r1 +8) ... 14: (bf) r2 = r8 15: (0f) r2 += r1 ; BPF_SEQ_PRINTF(seq, "%pi6 %02x ", &rt->fib6_dst.addr, rt->fib6_dst.plen); 16: (7b) *(u64 *)(r8 +64) = r2 only read is supported
The symptom for bpf_iter/netlink looks like
.. code-block:: c
; struct netlink_sock *nlk = ctx->sk; 2: (79) r7 = *(u64 *)(r1 +8) ... 15: (bf) r2 = r7 16: (0f) r2 += r1 ; BPF_SEQ_PRINTF(seq, "%pK %-3d ", s, s->sk_protocol); 17: (7b) *(u64 *)(r7 +0) = r2 only read is supported
This is due to a llvm BPF backend bug. The fix__
has been pushed to llvm 10.x release branch and will be
available in 10.0.1. The patch is available in llvm 11.0.0 trunk.

bpf_verif_scale/loop6.bpf.o test failure with Clang 12
With Clang 12, the following bpf_verif_scale test failed:
bpf_verif_scale/loop6.bpf.o
The verifier output looks like
.. code-block:: c
R1 type=ctx expected=fp The sequence of 8193 jumps is too complex.
The reason is compiler generating the following code
.. code-block:: c
; for (i = 0; (i < VIRTIO_MAX_SGS) && (i < num); i++) { 14: 16 05 40 00 00 00 00 00 if w5 == 0 goto +64 <LBB0_6> 15: bc 51 00 00 00 00 00 00 w1 = w5 16: 04 01 00 00 ff ff ff ff w1 += -1 17: 67 05 00 00 20 00 00 00 r5 <<= 32 18: 77 05 00 00 20 00 00 00 r5 >>= 32 19: a6 01 01 00 05 00 00 00 if w1 < 5 goto +1 <LBB0_4> 20: b7 05 00 00 06 00 00 00 r5 = 6 00000000000000a8 <LBB0_4>: 21: b7 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 r2 = 0 22: b7 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 r1 = 0 ; for (i = 0; (i < VIRTIO_MAX_SGS) && (i < num); i++) { 23: 7b 1a e0 ff 00 00 00 00 *(u64 *)(r10 - 32) = r1 24: 7b 5a c0 ff 00 00 00 00 *(u64 *)(r10 - 64) = r5
Note that insn #15 has w1 = w5 and w1 is refined later but
r5(w5) is eventually saved on stack at insn #24 for later use.
This cause later verifier failure. The bug has been fixed__ in
Clang 13.

BPF CO-RE-based tests and Clang version
A set of selftests use BPF target-specific built-ins, which might require bleeding-edge Clang versions (Clang 12 nightly at this time).
Few sub-tests of core_reloc test suit (part of test_progs test runner) require the following built-ins, listed with corresponding Clang diffs introducing them to Clang/LLVM. These sub-tests are going to be skipped if Clang is too old to support them, they shouldn't cause build failures or runtime test failures:
- builtin_btf_type_id() [0, 1, 2_];
- __builtin_preserve_type_info(), builtin_preserve_enum_value() [3, 4].

Floating-point tests and Clang version
Certain selftests, e.g. core_reloc, require support for the floating-point
types, which was introduced in Clang 13__. The older Clang versions will
either crash when compiling these tests, or generate an incorrect BTF.

Kernel function call test and Clang version
Some selftests (e.g. kfunc_call and bpf_tcp_ca) require a LLVM support
to generate extern function in BTF. It was introduced in Clang 13__.
Without it, the error from compiling bpf selftests looks like:
.. code-block:: console
libbpf: failed to find BTF for extern 'tcp_slow_start' [25] section: -2
__ https://reviews.llvm.org/D93563
btf_tag test and Clang version
The btf_tag selftest requires LLVM support to recognize the btf_decl_tag and
btf_type_tag attributes. They are introduced in Clang 14 [0_, 1_].
The subtests btf_type_tag_user_{mod1, mod2, vmlinux} also requires
pahole version 1.23.
Without them, the btf_tag selftest will be skipped and you will observe:
.. code-block:: console
#<test_num> btf_tag:SKIP

Clang relocation changes
Clang 13 patch clang reloc patch_ made some changes on relocations such
that existing relocation types are broken into more types and
each new type corresponds to only one way to resolve relocation.
See kernel llvm reloc_ for more explanation and some examples.
Using clang 13 to compile old libbpf which has static linker support,
there will be a compilation failure::
libbpf: ELF relo #0 in section #6 has unexpected type 2 in .../bpf_tcp_nogpl.bpf.o
Here, type 2 refers to new relocation type R_BPF_64_ABS64.
To fix this issue, user newer libbpf.
