tools: tc-testing: Introduce plugin architecture This should be a general test architecture, and yet allow specific tests to be done. Introduce a plugin architecture. An individual test has 4 stages, setup/execute/verify/teardown. Each plugin gets a chance to run a function at each stage, plus one call before all the tests are called ("pre" suite) and one after all the tests are called ("post" suite). In addition, just before each command is executed, the plugin gets a chance to modify the command using the "adjust_command" hook. This makes the test suite quite flexible. Future patches will take some functionality out of the tdc.py script and place it in plugins. To use the plugins, place the implementation in the plugins directory and run tdc.py. selftests: tc-testing: add "depends_on" property to skip tests currently, users can skip individual test cases by means of writing "skip": "yes" in the scenario file. Extend this functionality, introducing 'dependsOn': it's optional property like "skip", but the value contains a command (for example, a probe on iproute2 to check if it supports a specific feature). If such property is present, tdc executes that command and skips the test when the return value is non-zero. tc-testing: Clarify the use of tdc's -d option The -d command line argument to tdc requires the name of a physical device on the system where the tests will be run. If -d has not been used, tdc will skip tests that require a physical device. This patch is intended to better document what the -d option does and how it is used. This change allows plugins to start accepting commands and directives from the test cases themselves, for greater flexibility in testing. tc-testing: Add tdc to kselftests Add tdc to existing kselftest infrastructure so that it can be run with existing kselftests. TDC now generates objects in objdir/kselftest without cluttering main objdir, leaves source directory clean, and installs correctly in kselftest_install, properly adding itself to run_kselftest.sh script. Add tc-testing as a target of selftests/Makefile. Create tdc.sh to run tdc.py targets with correct arguments. To support single target from selftest/Makefile, combine tc-testing/bpf/Makefile and tc-testing/Makefile. Move action.c up a directory to tc-testing/. selftests: tc: set timeout to 15 minutes When looking for something else in LKFT reports [1], I noticed that the TC selftest ended with a timeout error: not ok 1 selftests: tc-testing: tdc.sh # TIMEOUT 45 seconds The timeout had been introduced 3 years ago, see the Fixes commit below. This timeout is only in place when executing the selftests via the kselftests runner scripts. I guess this is not what most TC devs are using and nobody noticed the issue before. The new timeout is set to 15 minutes as suggested by Pedro [2]. It looks like it is plenty more time than what it takes in "normal" conditions. selftests/tc-testing: test that taprio can only be attached as root Check that the "Can only be attached as root qdisc" error message from taprio is effective by attempting to attach it to a class of another taprio qdisc. That operation should fail. In the bug that was squashed by change "net/sched: taprio: try again to report q->qdiscs[] to qdisc_leaf()", grafting a child taprio to a root software taprio would be misinterpreted as a change() to the root taprio. Catch this by looking at whether the base-time of the root taprio has changed to follow the base-time of the child taprio, something which should have absolutely never happened assuming correct semantics. Vinicius points out that looking at "base_time" in the tc qdisc show output is unreliable because user space is in a race with the kernel applying the setting. So we create a helper bash script which waits while there is any pending schedule. tc-testing: split config file Move the config customization into a site-local file tdc_config_local.py, so that updates of the tdc test software does not require hand-editing of the config. This patch includes a template for the site-local customization file. In addition, this makes it easy to revert to a stock tdc environment for testing the test framework and/or the core tests. tc-testing: Restore original behaviour for namespaces in tdc This patch restores the original behaviour for tdc prior to the introduction of the plugin system, where the network namespace functionality was split from the main script. It introduces the concept of required plugins for testcases, and will automatically load any plugin that isn't already enabled when said plugin is required by even one testcase. Additionally, the -n option for the nsPlugin is deprecated so the default action is to make use of the namespaces. Instead, we introduce -N to not use them, but still create the veth pair. buildebpfPlugin's -B option is also deprecated. If a test cases requires the features of a specific plugin in order to pass, it should instead include a new key/value pair describing plugin interactions: "plugins": { "requires": "buildebpfPlugin" }, A test case can have more than one required plugin: a list can be inserted as the value for 'requires'.
